Austin Texas is a great place to visit! I hope you will have time from busy work to check out some of the city's attractions-- New Orleans sounds like a great place to film - I hope your associate allows you a few shots of the city or the Levies...great places to eat in New Orleans (you eat...I'm on a diet - ha-ha) Looking forward to hearing from you when you are let loose upon the 'Big Apple' - that's where I was born- in Manhatten- N.Y., N.Y!

Sailing Nervous Austin was awesome for sure :) I haven't had time to shoot much video on this part of my trip. Shooting video when traveling with others can be hard :) What little footage I do have is properly going to make a nice 20-second clip in an upcoming video. Just a super short recap of my trip. We'll see :) I didn't know you were born in Manhatten :) Were you raised there too? For someone like me, that grew up on a farm, growing up in such a big hectic city seems like it must have been very different :)

Welcome to Texas!!! Good thing we got all that rain or your lake view house would not be able to see the lake!!!!!! A month ago Lake Travis was at 37% full, today at 79% full. Hope you have a good time down here!!

monte reed I loved Texas (the tiny bit I got to see)! :) What's not to like. Friendly people, awesome food, beautiful scenery and at least while I was there good weather. I did see some signs of the flooding but not many. It must have been a lot worse other places in Texas! I'd love to see more of Texas at some point in the future :)

Well, the time had to come! I have to tell both you guys this surprise was a real "youtube class act". Quite the surprise. Had been following you both and I'm not sure how but this joint "surprise" trip you both planed really sealed the deal for me. I'm a subscriber for life! So, what's next? How do you top this? I'm sure you'll have something new in the future. Thanks again!

Hope you enjoy your time in the US.. Looks like the weather has cleared up down there just in time for you. Had some nasty rain and flooding in TX for a week or so. The thing about the US is that the culture and people vary so much from State to State and City to City. I hope everyone is courteous to you while you are here.

I've seen almost no signs of the flooding personally but from what I heard on the news it's pretty bad in some places. I had an awesome day on one of the lakes here thanks to a YT buddy. There was some debris in the water and he told me that the water level has gone up a lot but other than that I've seen no signs of flooding. Of course that might change on the drive down to New Orleans. One of the reasons I like spending time in the US is how easy it is to talk to a complete stranger and how friendly most people are. I'm sure there are variations but as a whole you guys seem much friendlier that us Europeans ;) So far a girl behind the counter in a Starbucks as complimented my beard, a girl in a gas station stopped me to tell me my accent was awesome (I don't agree) and a somewhat drunk girl asked if she could touch my beard. Plus of course all the nice people I've been chatting :) I don't think either of those things would have ever happened back home :) I'm sure I'll have an awesome time in the US - I always do :)

Can't believe Alfy didn't make you walk to the airport! Just kidding..... I really like Austin though it's a bit humid down there this time of year. Hope you enjoy the U.S.!!!

Haha, a pleasant surprise for sure ;) The heat is a bit much coming from Canada. Apparently the locals don't think it's even summer yet. I would have a hard time adjusting to that! :)

Great series I really enjoyed it thank you. Just one thing I think you should warn people if you are going to get your lilly white legs out again :)

Glad you made it safely to Austin Mads and thanks for posting a cruising Canada's Left coast, close out video. I spent the afternoon getting the engine ready for a summer of cruising Canada's east coast. Are you planning on taking Obelix on an extended cruise this summer?
@SailLife
@SailLife 9 лет назад
Thanks :) I'd love to cruise the east coast of Canada at some point :) I won't have to much time to cruise when I go back home. I'm crossing my fingers I'll be able to get a week or two off in August. If I do I'll make sure to bring the camera :)

Hello from New Braunfels (approximately). You got here just after unbelievable weather. Everything should be fresh and green. This is almost perfect timing for you. Looks like your in a great area too. Shame not to meet you but someday. I have to buy and install a new engine so I too am busy. :(
@SailLife
@SailLife 9 лет назад
It seems like I was very lucky with the timing of this visit! :) I hope I'll have more time the next time I'm in Texas :) Yikes, new engine that isn't cheap :( I hope you are able to do most of the work yourself :) I'm crossing my fingers I won't need a new engine anytime soon.

Texans are very friendly and hospitable. More so than most places I've lived. Enjoy, though. The place is changing quickly.

Pass Me By I have still to meet a single unpleasant or rude person in Texas :) Lots of both back home sadly. You did a great job on your first video :) When will we see episode two? :)

Thanks for that. Glad Texicans are keeping up our heritage of being good people. I am uploading now. One problem after another. The GoPro just quit working during the survey of the boat. I sent it back. The boat engine failure has really set me back in spirit and money. I keep one eye on Nike for inspiration not to sell the boat!

WELCOME TO THE USA. Have a great trip and Ive already called my doctor to see about getting some medication to help me through not having any SAIL LIFE videos for awhile.. :o)
@SailLife
@SailLife 9 лет назад
Thanks! :) Haha, I hope your doctor was able to prescribe something ;) I think I'll post a single video from NYC and depending on the feedback on that video I might stick to sailing related videos. I don't know if pepole will enjoy road trip videos. Those aren't really sailing related of course :)

The last time I was in Houston, It was in August and the moment I stepped off the plane in the heat and humidity, my glasses immediately fogged up!
@SailLife
@SailLife 9 лет назад
From what I've heard August is a lot worse than June :) The next couple of days the temperature should be around 95F/35C that is more than enough for me ;)

@SailLife
@SailLife 9 лет назад
It was a nice view! :) Jökull is with my parents :) They are taking great care of him! They've even taken him camping ;) It'll be interesting to see if he wants to come home with me when I make it back to Denmark ;) Oh, don't worry about the spelling or pronunciation of his name - not an easy one :)

Mads: I think you will like Austin very much. However, Austin is kind of an aberration among Texas cities, and is not typical of most. Austin is very laid-back and liberal and clean, almost like a European city transplanted into the middle of Texas. You will find many things which exist in Austin that do not exist in other Texas cities. Your route of travel from Austin to New Orleans should take you through Beaumont, Texas, if you are driving along the I-10 interstate highway. The street upon which I live exits directly from the I-10, and it is less than three miles to my house from the highway. If you would like a place to rest and stretch your legs for a time during your trip, then please contact me for instructions on how to find my house. I would be thrilled to meet you and show you the two boat projects I am presently working on. This will be easy, as the boats are mounted on hardstands in my back yard. After watching your videos, I feel like we have many things in common, as I too suffer from a debilitating and painful back injury. Like another of your viewers (moe jaime) I am dependent upon the very meager disability pension paid by the United States government for my survival. But despite these handicaps (both financial and physical), I am testing the proposition that in the United States of America, even a very poor man with no previous sailing experience (but with sufficient determination and skill) can outfit a sailboat and sail around the world simply because he wants to do so. I hope you will stop by to see me, and I'll show you how the poor folks live in Texas outside the cosmopolitan high-rent paradise of Austin. There's a lot more of us poor folks in Texas than rich 'uns, and we'd be happy to have you come on by and sit for a while and visit. My e-mail is: cyberwitch16@msn.com.

drifterpilot I'm sorry to hear that you too are struggling with your back. I think it's awesome that you are chasing your dream despite your injury! Austin is indeed a very nice city and I can certainly see what you mean by it almost being like a European city transplanted in the middle of Texas :) I do think my colleague and I'll be passing through Beaumont on our way to New Orleans. He's not into sailing at all, but I might be able to talk him into us making a quick stop to say hello :) Of course I'd love to learn more about your plans and your boat! :) We'll be visiting the Space Center in Houston on Saturday and then driving on to New Orleans. I have no idea about how much time we'll spend in the Space Center. I'll send you an email to see if we can figure something out :)

I just bought Grey Ghost My 27 foot Columbia 8.3 out of that same lake i think your overlooking Lake Travis. The lake is so low everyone is having to sell there sailboats cheap cuz they cant get them out of the water.. I was there march 1 this year and am doing a complete refit like you did to your boat. Hope to sail with you one day. Great videos. I just got cyberlink 13 ultra a few days ago and will be learning how to make pro videos like you. Thanks for the tips www.greyghostsailing.com/
