This is great, i live near lossie and have been there looking around the marina contemplating how i'd like to try sailing. I used to maintain the noise makers in a previous life😇
Hi Sam, very interesting sailing, i have been to Scotland twice and loved it, dreaming of sailing Good News 2, 8 m 26 ft yacht back to Scotland, Captain Cook 80 Durban South Africa
Hi Sam. It looks like we met on this trail.😮 You took some photos of our IBIS boat. The day before, Jasper and I (2.40; he in yellow trousers and me in a red jacket) had arrived in Inverness to accompany our friend Ian back to Boston. Ian circled the UK and took part, similar like you, in Jester Challenge 2023. It's good that I watched this movie..! Wow!!!😊
Thanks Sam. We had a very fast passage down the North Sea. Mirek and Jasper are a very strong crew and 3 up 3 hours on 6 off kept us all well rested. The first winds from the storm that kept you in Lindisfarne blew us into the wash and home. To Fosdyke. Happy Sailing. I look forward to our paths crossing again. Plymouth next June?
@@ianabbott751 you looked a well organised ship heading out the Caledonian locks. Some tide under the Kessock bridge wasn't there! Let me know if you need crew in 2024 for any long haul stuff.
In sub-10mph winds you'd need an inifinite number of wind turbines. Combine that with night-time and you'll have zero output from your solar panels too!
Considering that you didn't have the most ideal of wind conditions Sam, you still made very good progress. I'm just happy to remember a time living at Walton when there were no wind farms on the horizon, cranes at Felixstowe and Thames barges were still plying their trade along the East Coast.
Cracking episode, that was a big chunk covered. Wind turbines must make having to sail around them rather more tedious, might as well be rocks and there are not many seafarers looking to plant any more of them I guess !! As you said, no easy answer we're all partly responsible.
Been GREAT following you, and i'm green with envy, seeing your progress has really unsettled me. Ive had my mast re-rigged and Alchemy now sails a dream. Sadly, i can't get beyond the dream of following your voyage.
Followed all your video's, great achivment and hope you have a well earned celebration at the Butt and oyster. I will find the link and make a donation for your effotts + a pint if i meet you at Pin Mill.
Is nobody going to mention you seem to have visited the barber in Lossiemouth? There certainly seems to have been a Lossie beard from round your Mouth… I’ll get me coat
Great journey! great videos... but i don't get your point re wind farms? they ARE an obstruction, to a bloke in a boat on the coast, but you don't think they're needed or they're done wrong? What could they do better?
Do you think you could sail your Hurley across the Atlantic? Are they good boats for blue water sailing, I think you would have to be solo though with the weight of supplies.
