Always easier when people around give a hand instead of being too busy filming or grinning.

Nice bow thruster work. Knows how to handle a boat...

It seems to be tight spot with a long yacht on one side. Not too bad actually!

Agree......not so bad for such yacht in this tight space

I couldn't have done that maneuver in my 34ft sailboat.

A 50 foot sailing yacht reversing in an extremely tight area, looking at the surroundings its not too bad of a maneuver.

Going astern not reversing you landlubber! Piece of cake with a bow thruster!

My power boat is 57' with a single engine so I know what its like to back down a lane. That sail boat has a rudder like a barn door so once he was straight... hand off the thruster and use your skills! Its easy to be an arm chair skipper but thrusters are for when the rudder and prop walk are not getting the job done. Use them when you "need them" and practice without!

Sailing boats don't like going astern depending on the underwater profile. Bow thruster vital and to be used all the time not 'hands off', not unless you've got bullet proof insurance for all the damage claims against you.

Silly question, why was he in the slip bow first? Or am I missing something?

It’s common in Sweden to dock bow in/arse out. Had a boat there for 3yrs. Easy to dock but when the weather or congestion builds.. not so funny when you want to leave. Think it originates from old boat designs when the bowsprit was the easiest step off point. Millions of 1960/70s boats in Sweden with a high coaming plus solid rail pushpits makes it nigh impossible to get off the back without a lot of climbing.. unlike modern larger boats with a lower access/drop down bathing platform to exit by. In natural harbours in Sweden in particularly it makes more sense and is easier to dock bow first...so it becomes the norm even in places where it isn’t really the best method.

@@SV_Lilia Thank you for the explanation. It makes sense from a historical standpoint but as you explained modern boats infrastructure allows for easier disembarkation from the rear.

Nervous helmsman may be ...In any case this should be a pretty easy way out for a sailing yacht in perfectly calm conditions. Bow thruster unnecessary!

Using Lines?
@royalrichmond4154
@royalrichmond4154 6 лет назад
They would use the breeze to drift the bow over, bursts of engine ahead and astern while spinning the wheel, and maybe a stern line as reserve.

Fewer human beings owning boats not bigger anything Daniel you muppet! But at last the penny has dropped since this was posted a year ago and global overpopulation is being addressed, this crowded harbour is just one more indication of the problem facing humans in every walk of life.
