Huge recommendation for you two. You need to remove the paper labels from your cans and jars as cockroaches like to lay their eggs behind the paper label. After removing the label, write the contents on the can/jar with a permanent marker. Also suggest that you remove ALL cardboard prior to bringing on the boat. ~Fair winds and following seas.
You had a better chance of getting a mosquito bite than catching COVID from your groceries. Great info on the video! Love the tree too, great idea to keep the spirit!
This is a good video. I love the attention to detail while getting provisions together. We do one week trips and it always takes so much more planning than I thought it would.
You’re struggling with rowing the dingy because you are sitting the wrong way around. You need to be facing backwards towards the motor and then the oars and rollocks will be in the right place!
Hi Folks We put pool noodles with sunbrella fabric on lifeline hardware. And on places were We lean back. It keeps clothes and body parts from getting damaged.
I am jealous of your life. I wish my wife and I had bought that boat we looked at years ago but turned down for a house. Raised two kids there and now I might be too brittle to survive it. Thus living the sailing life through you. Thanks !!!
The scenery is so beautiful and stunning.Very enjoyable! Reminds me of my trips where I take the good music like the Guns N Roses, Imagine Draongs or the Delta Parole and then enjoy the powerful feeling of the sea. ¡vamos!
Hey you crazy kids. Happy I found ya. Waving from Oregon and simplifying life for a 50’ cat purchase eventually. Looking forward to watching you. Stay safe n healthy.
should wrap those glass bottles with old socks or shirts when storing them and also remove the labels from all canned and bottled foods, the glue can have wee critter eggs in it
Before you bring the cans on the boat, you should strip the paper from the cans. Get a Sharpie pen to write the product on the top and the date. Cockroaches lay eggs under the paper on the cans, and also in cardboard. Looks like you forgot the garlic. You can never have enough garlic. Best wishes.
I suggest you assume everything you've packed below in cabinets or below settees or floorboards will get wet. So, I'd put all toilet paper, paper towels, books, or anything you want to stay dry in plastic bags. Good luck on crossing the Gulf Stream.
Hi instead of sucking air out of zip lock backs you can fill large bowl or sink with water and just slowly lower bag in water to just under top of bag , that will push all the air out of crevices etc then zip close. Great channel
Sitting here in Calgary during a snow storm dreaming that I was there. Found your channel tonight and now subscribed. Great channel and thank you for posting your adventures. Can't wait until your next video. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone and take care.
It means a lot to us that you’re enjoying our videos! Thanks for watching and hope you have a very Merry Christmas! We’re envious of the white Christmas despite the 🥶 lol
Hi guys! It looks to me like the universe is looking after you with your finds, especially that foam. If you don't find a bag of money, then that's not what you really need...right? That was cool with the iguanas. So green! Happy crossing to the Bahamas.
and don't use anything solid to secure things (like chain) because that stuff is quite easily sawn thru! Use lifeline cable. It's flexible and covered with vinyl so it'll protect most surfaces. But as one tries to saw or cut through it, it frays and bloodies the bad guys…
We are from Fairbanks, and traveling full time in our fifth wheel pulled by our Semi truck converted RV. We are in Las Vegas right now, and this is our first Christmas without snow as well. I agree, the palm trees and shorts at Christmas is just weird and wrong. LOL. Merry Christmas, and safe travels.
Hi guys, just binge watched your whole series and like what you’re doing. You can really see the quality progression in your video production and storylines. Would be great if you could fill in the gaps on your backgrounds, what got you to this adventure in the middle of a pandemic and the backstory on the boat and your preps for the trip south. Thanks and fair winds. 🍁
Have a blast on the trip. If that was frost on the return/low pressure line to your fridge compressor, if its going more than a few inches up the return line, your fridge might be over-charged. The small fridges are hard to get the right amount of refrigerant in. Frost on first couple inches of return line is what many people use as "just right".
Hello guys first time seeing your channel. Just want to say good luck to y’all and hats off to y’all for living your dream. Wished I could take back time and you tube was around 30 years ago. Anywho great work and I will be excited to see your journey. From New Jersey USA
Good luck and safe sailing. Might be a good idea to install alarm system to scare away thieves once your away from boat, that also sends you this info to your phone.
I hear when it comes to palm trees and Christmas. Never could get used to that when I lived in San Diego. Live in Seattle now, and Christmas Eve we hiked in the snow...much mo better! Just found your channel and subscribed. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year.
Love you guys - 1st time watching after finding you....I'm on board for the ride now - lol I'm an older Canadian, long time sailor and liveaboard from B.C. Both of you have a great attitude, likely lots to learn, but we all were there once. Best of the holidays, you are young and in for the adventure of your lives. Remain well.
Hey there! That’s amazing! We love hearing that. Travis is from BC actually. Bet it’s a lot nicer to live aboard there than on Toronto lol. Thanks for following along in our journey and have a very Merry Christmas!
Hey Guys! So stoked to find your channel! We have the same boat! I just bought her two months ago. 1999 Hunter Passage 420. Figuring out the quirks has been interesting! She's a good sturdy boat! The center cockpit has it's perks and downfalls. I fell in love with the huge Aft cabin. It sold it for me. I'm 6'2 and I don't feel cramped! I live in San Diego, but lived in West Palm Beach for 10 yrs. I want to fly back , charter a boat, and sail my Pops to the Bahamas! Cuba really, but baby steps for now;) I hope you made a safe passage across the Gulfstream and look forward to watching more.
Oh wicked! Your boats a little new than ours but the aft cabin is what sold us as well! The CC was iffy for us too but Travis is 6’1 and loves the full head clearance when walking through the inside of the boat and being able to walk fully around the deck. Hopefully you and your pops make it out there and maybe we’ll see someday!
New here, love seeing fellow Canadians living the dream. Safe sails. Also a little advice, start to get into the habit of taking labels off your can goods and get rid of cardboard, you don't want bugs. Can't wait to see your future adventures. ⚓⛵🇨🇦
Thanks for the advice ! We read the same thing before crossing so we’ve removed all cardboard and labels off the boat. We are excited to share with you!🇨🇦
A word of advice from an old sea dog. Invest in a vacuum bagger and bags. It will keep your food fresh much longer in the sea environment. Pick your weather window wisely crossing the gulf stream, it can be rough. Fair winds and following seas.
Steph...glad that you found some good Pho, and your Chris-mast tree is lovely! Travis, take it easy on those king cans, buddy! 😆 ...and while I'm sure that you never had any reservations or regrets about leaving, just to reaffirm that, we're probably going into lockdown on boxing day for a month. 😟 Love following your adventures, guys! Merry christmas! 🎄😊☃️🎅⛵
Yes, the pho was much needed and def won’t be available around where we are now! Travis made sure to stock up on some big boy bottles before we left the states! Merry Christmas, and tell the guys at the marina we wish them a Merry Christmas as well! Glad you’re still following along!
Just found you guys and I am really enjoying your journey. Trying to get through all your videos from the beginning currently. Obviously you are aware thumbnails of Steph will have you at 50k subs in no time as your content and editing will make people subscribe.
If you're worried about pestilence in your food. Peel all the labels, wash cans, etc.in a very mild bleach solution. Mark cans, etc with a sharpie including dates of expiration. But for a Bahamas cruise you don't have to be so fastidious. You'll arrive soon to a grocery market near you. I only mention this because you have a spark and spirit. Should you ever do a transoceanic crossing, those are tips you should know.
I know this video is over a year old and maybe you guys have already addressed these issues let me start off by saying I'm not an HVAC guy but I do do plenty of automotive air conditioning and in most cases when you see ice forming in the freezer it's because the gasket is not sealing properly and if you're seeing frost on the tubes coming in and out of the freezer that's an indication that is low on refrigerant
Another fun filled video, very informative also. The water filtration. Really, you think of everything Your to do list is so long.. it is not simple to prep for this crossing.. Good luck and I look forward to your next video...l🥂⚓🏝🏝
just found your channel from Hunter page. Made trips from Lake Champlain a couple of years. Please be sure to clean out fuel tank before crossing. I now suck out bottom of tank yearly and usually get a quart of gunk even though I use a baha funnel and biobar jf. Fuel in many of the out islands can be iffy. stay safe, S/V Apres Ski
You are so welcome! I can’t do what you are doing, but my 14 yo and I can live vicariously through your adventures and for that we say thank you! I follow a couple channels and a couple more I don’t watch anymore because they became too commercialized. Please don’t let that happen. Enjoy yourselves while you’re young! Sail on!!!!!!
So happy to have found you guys! Sailing out of the north channel here, glad to see some fellow Canucks following the dream! See you on the waters soon, I hope! If you're ever in the Little Current/Manitoulin area, come drop a line and put your feet up :)
It's a smart idea to remove all labels off your canned goods. Roaches love dark, warm and wet areas. You DO NOT WANT roaches in your boat. They feed on the Glue that is used. And if you dont want eggs being laid, I'd get on that asap. Also, try not to store heavy goods like food in cabinets on the sides of your boat. Put as much in the bottom center. Your boat will have issues shifting when more weight is added to the sides. Just a thought. Happy sailing
I shared your channel on the RU-vid sailing fb page and on the Hunter owners fb page, hope you guys are in that group as they are so helpful finding parts and trouble shooting issues!
Thanks so much!! We are not too active on Facebook, however, will definitely check those pages out now that we’ve learned about them. We really appreciate it! :)
They have put a request for you to join, already people have answered back that they checked your channel! Hunter group are awesome owners and will help you out with parts instructions etc and join the Bahamas land and sea with tons of information for cruisers!
Your probably going to wish your hard cases were soft packs that can be folded and stored. Also easy to travel with as a backpack. Hard cases on boats are tough on space. HEY! Safe travels and have fun‼️
Hey guys nice bums. Well I noticed you're provisioning as if you were crossing the Atlantic so I thought I would add this little detail. Gotta tear off all canned goods labels. If the cans get wet the labels fall off and get moldy and then you don't know wtf is what Hope that helps a future privlem.
Just a suggestion. ..take all the paper labels off food or the humidity will cause rust, mold, roach infestation, write on lids contents...favorable winds.
No disrespect. I haven't seen a serious BMX video since the 80s ... not that I am actively looking for them... but if you are a pro BMX'er lets see it!
Hi Guys, I’ve just binge watched all your videos, they are all excellent, well done. I cant find the link to the video for the installation of your water maker. Enjoy the journey guys
Id recommend removing all paper labels from can goods and glass goods! This serves multiple purposes, not clogging up bilges and not giving bugs something to chew on.
Wow great information on anchorages and marinas while traveling down the east coast. We are planning to follow your route out of the Great Lakes next season, any tips on travel dates thru the Erie Channel and down the east coast? Really enjoyed your episodes and binge watched Christmas Day.
We chose to leave in the Fall to ensure we got through the canals before they closed Oct 15. It was really pretty during that time of year as well, though it got a bit chilly! There’s lots to see in the small towns along the canals but most were closed due to the pandemic and we were trying to make our way out of the canal system as quickly as we could. Make sure to wear gloves as the locks get very dirty. Going up is more challenging with the turbulence (the first lock on the Oswego canal going south, make sure you position your fenders low, nearly touching the water- every other lock is fine) and then the majority of the locks after Oswego are going down which we found much easier. Plenty of places to tie up in the canals - we followed skipper bobs guide which was great! Thanks for tuning into us and Merry Christmas!
Looks like you went grocery shopping at Publix then hauled your groceries back over multiple bicycle trips. Next time I'd suggest you order on-line from Walmart and have it delivered to you somewhere close to your boat or dingy. Not only would that save on trips and effort, it would save you money. Then go hit Publix for any times for which Walmart was out of stock.
Your Channel popped up on my feed. Have to say the iguana hunt made me laugh. Also “its coming on the boat” “No” Also know why the iguana got whippy in the end. The little guy thought he was going to live on a nice boat but turned away at the last minute. Wouldn’t you be a bit whippy. :-) Liked and subscribed
When it comes to your rigging, self adhesive rigging tape is excellent, watch a video on how to use it but it works great (you might have already been suggested this so sorry if so!)
Welcome to South Florida! Just found your channel with this video, so catching up with the others. If you end up in Hollywood before you head off to the Bahamas (unless you already have) drop a message!
I've seen on other channels people rip the labels off cans and write with sharpie and get rid of cardboard paper on cans and cardboard attracts bugs roaches in the bahamas and don't bring any on the boat while there bugs go under the labels
