The sun dipped low over the horizon, casting golden rays across the still water, turning the ocean into a sea of molten amber. Evan eased back, hands relaxed on the wheel as the sailboat cut silently through the glassy surface. Only the soft flutter of the sails and the gentle lapping of waves against the hull disturbed the evening calm.
Beside him, Talia leaned against the railing, her hair catching the last of the sunlight. She closed her eyes, letting the salty air brush over her face, breathing in deeply as if to inhale the entire scene.
In the distance, a pod of dolphins arched gracefully through the water, their sleek bodies catching the orange and pink glow. They followed along, close enough for Evan and Talia to hear the faint splash each time they surfaced. It was as if they, too, were riding with the sunset.
As the light softened and the sky deepened to shades of lavender and indigo, the couple drifted in peaceful silence, in awe of the vastness around them. Evan reached over and took Talia’s hand, a small, simple gesture that felt like the only words the moment required.
Time slowed until it felt endless, as if the ocean and the sky had conspired to give them this brief, eternal ride into the heart of the sunset.
