I've noticed how much more confident the two of you are, and the level of hosting a ship, well, no doubt about it, it's gonna be great seeing you sail again.
So when I was a kid, my grandfather lived in Beaufort and he must have taken me to the Yorktown 5 times for me to crawl all over. I love that museum. Totally worth a look through.
Way to level up!! From boatless to back on the water in a fine looking vessel. The excitement for this new adventure you two show is palpable! I sure am looking forward to you bringing us all along for this new leg of your life's journey. (Gotta show us all the prep you do before setting sail...provisioning...all the stuff you're bringing...how you plan the trip, etc.) Detail what looks like a HUGE big screen TV just inside the sliding doors. Movie night with popcorn while on watch anyone? Haha! Thanks again for another one of your great vids!
Love the boat! More importantly it’s amazing that someone would trust you with such a expensive asset. To me it shows your character and integrity, love you guys have a great passage.
Transporting that trimaran sounds so fun!!! I can’t wait to see the sail. I love you guys so much. You were the first sailors I ever watched, and it was during the worst winter for me: 2020. You have no idea how grateful I am to you.
You all are in my favorite cities which happen to contain two of my favorite people. My niece now lives full time in historic Charleston after graduating from College of Charleston last year. When you hit St. Augustine you will hit the home of Flagler College where my nephew is attending his first year. I have vacationed in both these cities many times and love them dearly. I hope you had a fabulous time on the delivery!
What a beautiful Boat. Seems like it has everything one needs plus more. Thanks 🙏 for inviting us subscribers along for the adventure and sailing. I’ll be waiting we cast off. Love you guys. Dennis.
On the rolling, lights always at 100% and then find the shutter speed that matches. 1/60 or 1/50 is typical on 120V/240V leds. The DC leds are usually lower. Around 1/42 or even 1/30th if they are half wave. There is usually a monitor sync function or a fine scan adjustment on some of the higher end Sony cams. Adjust it up or down to find that frequency where the rolling stops. Its a pain in the rear as you know. But once you find it, save it as a preset and adjust exposure with iso and f stop. And, you’re going to have it on your new boat unless you make sure they use very high quality, high resolution PWM dimmers.
The USS Yorktown and our Service men and women past, present, and future, deserve all the praise and credit and Respect we can give them. Blessings all.
Have been following you for years. Wishing I was thirty years younger and had your influence back then to hit the open seas!! I grew up in St. Augustine and was called a "river rat" since we lived on the Matanzas and drove a ski boat long before driving a car. I miss the water - live in Atlanta now to be close to my daughters; but my sister lives on Salt Run in St. Augustine, so we still travel "home" as much as possible. When you said that your next stop was St. Augustine, I whooped and hollered. Can't wait to watch next week. You need a month in St. Augustine to see everything and eat everywhere!! Happy New Years! Suzan
Great tour of the Neal “Big ship” and no charge, unlike the other big ships there in Charleston. Always been a Trimaran fan looking forward to how everything goes on your sail south!
Such an exciting adventure for you guys. I’ve followed you since your motor home days, and so excited to see what is ahead for you and obtaining your new vessel. Love you guys.
I like this boat. And to make that speed beating into crap, that’s pretty darn good. The motion looked less jerky that a cat. When I first saw the owners cabin I said whaaaat! But after a few minutes that really makes sense. You make some very good points there. Really great when underway or at anchor. You are very aware of your surrounding and being able to see the glass panel, even right from the bed. Great. With the single engine you loose maneuverability but gain half of the maintenance. And That’s huge. I have sailed most of the world with just one engine. And over 30 yrs old at that with very little problems. Hey, it’s all a trade off. Thanks for the tour.
Hello Wynns, my wife and I are long time Charleston residents. I wish I had known you were here since I sail out of the Charleston Marina. The Mrs is a tour guide and would love to show you around our incredible city. Also, don't shop at that grocery store again, there's a Whole Foods right around the corner and I'd be happy to take you there. Sams and Costco are also nearby and I have memberships to both. Cheers!
So glad you got to visit Charleston, SC (I live in nearby Summerville). It's been chosen as one of the friendliest cities in the World/US several years in a row. It's a great place for food, and while they have good food downtown some of the best food in the area is in hole-in-the-wall restaurants from downtown on out to the towns nearby. Which is pretty common for cities in the southeast.
Tip: Wrap bottles of toxic, flammable or messy liquids in an old towel before placing them in a plastic basket. Constant plastic on plastic or anything semi-hard to hard causes friction which can indeed rub a hole or groove in plastic containers, releasing their contents when it's least desirable. It's far easier to readjust or replace the old towel if it wears away than it is to clean up the mess, or worse, deal with toxic fumes. Hmm! I have a Bosch dishwasher. :) Yes, I've been to Charleston. Beautiful Southern city! I've been to St. Augustine, too. :) And Miami...
I had a forty-two foot trimaran, in a cross wind, they are hard to manoeuvre--but I used reverse in tough conditions of cross wind and tide and you need someone with a push-off pole. We never had a bow thruster--but it would have helped a lot to have had one. The two amas together were the size of a 35 foor t Wharram catamaran, and all we stored in them was extra bosun's stores, extra water, spare ropes and synthetic carpeted racks securing extra containers of diesel fuel.
Yay Jason and Nikki! What an amazing boat! So glad you're getting to share your adventure with us! Also, thank you Katie and Craig for allowing us along on this delivery! May fair winds be with you all! 🌬⛵
Charleston, also Savannah, Ga, are awesome places. Both city’s are on the coast and very similar to each other. If you are a history buff, go visit each place!
My brother lives there too! In fact, his street ends as a boat ramp into Shem Creek that he can launch during high tide. Love that utility room allowing uncramped access to all tech.
Shout out to my Charleston peeps. We lived on a boat there for 2 years. Shopped in that same grocery store! Shrimp n' grits! Now I'm homesick, here in Mexico. Next week, shout out to my St. Augustine hometown peeps. I miss all of it.
Nice boat. I helped a guy build a 40 foot trimaran in Alaska back in the 70's using the West epoxy saturation method. It took him 5 years to finish it and I helped him as much as I could as I was interested in boats and sailing also. He finally got it in the water at the Port of Anchorage and "motored" it the 2500 miles to Seattle to have a mast, rigging and sails installed. He had never been sailing or crossed big water in his life and by the time he got to Seattle he hated it so much he sold the boat and went to work building and upgrading boats in the Seattle area. At least I learned a lot about building and maintaining boats from the experience of helping him build it, tho I never got a chance to sail on it. I had just joined the Fire Dept and couldn't break away for the trip. Thanks for the video! I will be interested in your take on the difference between a Catamaran and a Trimaran. How many months till your new boat is ready?
I have been to Charleston!! I drove across that bridge JUST to drive across that bridge. We were going to tour those boats down there, but it was closed when we got there. I wish I had had more time to look around Charleston too. It seems like such a fun place to check out. I am looking forward to getting caught up with your adventure with this boat. What FUN!!! Thanks for sharing!
We are a few years behind you two! Your inspiration led us to buying our first RV, quitting our jobs and leaving for our first 6 month tour. Sailing is next!! Thank you
What a beautiful boat, love the openness of it. Wow those ships are massive!! I mean I knew they were big but you captured the massiveness of them so well in that one shot! Charleston is really a cute town, I was just there in August house/cat sitting for a friend. Stay Blessed Beautiful Hearts and Happy Sailing! 🙏🏼💜
Will be really interested in their sailing experience on it as it’s definitely on my “to buy or not to buy” list as the space is amazing but read too many bad vibes on build quality and ocean sailing suitability of these models 👍🤞🤞🤞
@@mattandtamsin The Neel 52 is the most advanced Neel to date, Designed by Marc Lombard. PYS customized the Neel 47 Supernova on this video, and also the most advanced Neel 51 on the market.
@@HopeOfJoe Yes, only the models larger than the 47 will have interior access to the amas from the saloon. For me, it's the Neel 51 or larger but this 47 is very well designed despite that shortcoming.
Nice boat.... in the marina. Everything that can move has to be restrained one way or another in any waves at all. All those nice sliding storage tubs will be piled up on the floor, all those open storage areas will dump everything out, and everything that is confined will get all thrown together. 8 years sailing a performance Tri taught me that. And there are too many sharp corners to smash into when the boat is jumping waves fighting upwind. Sailing in calm water and downwind is smooth sailing, But in rough water and especially going upwind in waves a tri moves around violently. A cat moves much less in the same conditions. Have a fun trip!
Set your shutter speed to 1/50 or 1/60 to mitigate the banding your are experiencing with the LED lighting. Pulse Wave Modulation is what causes this to happen and that is the standard signal sequencing that is used to ignite leds to keep them from burning up.
🤪Nicky! If my opinion is worth anything ON THE DISHWASHER, a suggestion for y'alls kitchen and that one. If it were me I would have a dish drain board that's dropped down below the counter top to the right of sink. Counter top would be hinged to lift up. There would be a dish, cup, glasses, plates rack for dishes to dry with heating element. .....for a couple my everyday dishes would live there with counter top closed.....forget the dish washer....use that space for something else. Can tell the both of you are very excited👏 about the experience. Jeff and Donna
I know in the States you guys dine early but 9:00 o’clock on a Saturday is perfect time!! In Latin America we never eat out earlier than that on a Friday or Saturday evening, and if you can’t find a table you have to wait until 10:30 or 11:00!! Can´t wait for the next video, I’m planning on retiring soon, selling everything, buy a multihull and go sailing!!
.... have always thought that when the day comes that I have my own boat there will be a large as possible screen whose main purpose would be to mirror the instruments so with a turn of the head you could see what is going on. Another techy thing would be a remote camera on the mast. Sorta like having a drone view while say docking, negotiating lochs, and security so you can see what is going on on deck without being visible ... what a great boat, the storage is fantastic and not only for the general sailing things but for bulky toys so they don't clutter the deck ... thx for the share .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ....
I have been to Charleston 3 times. Twice for the company, I worked for and once to show my wife the city. You are right. It is a great place to visit and has some very good places to eat. Oh, I am from Texas also. Longview to be exact.
I spent a week on the Yorktown back in the day as a Scout Master. Super fun! There is also, at least back then... a Russian Submarine. Highly recommend!!
Awesome tour guys! I made some notes for potential upgrades on my Neel. It took some additional training on my part to deal with a wide beam and single engine with a bow thruster around the marina. With no wind or currents, it's as easy as in the Neel docking video.
That Neel looks to be a very well laid out trimaran. Something I might consider if I ever had one is a pair of retractable trolling motors on the inside corners at the stern of the amas for docking and slow speed maneuvering. Then you just pull them all the way up out of the water when you're leaving the actual harbor. I was never stationed in Charleston but you'll be going past (unless you already have) my old home port of Mayport Florida, right at the mouth of the St. Johns river. Safe travels!
@@karenpolansky9097 Our oldest son lives in Charlotte, NC and yet Charleston, SC is one of our favorite places to visit. We go almost every year for our anniversary so... you can imagine how many times I have either said North instead of South Carolina or Charlotte instead of Charleston. 😂🤣
Absolutely epic way to start 2023. Unexpected that your on a top of the line trimaran 😎! You both have done the ups and downs and all arounds for a couple of years now. To see you guys so happy and yall are so relaxed, is fabulous 😌 🤪 💓 and as always producing, by far the best channel. 👌 Happiest of New Years 💓
Although a very nice yacht, I wouldn't call this trimaran top-of-the-line. The Neel 51 or better yet, the newer 52 model are far better. The problem with the Neel models under 51 feet (43, 45, 47, 50) is the lack of interior access to the amas (hulls). The 47's ama cabins are accessible only from the outside. Great if you want privacy, bad for everything else. Not only is that a major PITA during poor weather conditions but it greatly decreases the size of the living area if the boat is for the owner's use only. Otherwise, the amas are good mainly as storage areas. However, who would ever need _that_ much storage capacity? The Neel concept of a hull-spanning main deck trimaran is excellent, but the potential is fully realized only on the largest models.
@@jamesaron1967 I appreciate your evaluations. I also checked out the larger models and for larger families you are absolutely correct, 💯 percent. Yet for a couple to enjoy the preformance and can customize, well for me this cat is a jem.
Hi ....We live in Charleston and would have loved to see both of you...We know your time was short ...an you both had a ton of things to do before departing for southern waters ..Have safe & fun filled journey...best of luck with your new home when she is completed..God speed...
Welcome to my hometown...wish you could stay longer but hopefully you'll be back! Your video styling would be the perfect match for showcasing Charleston!
I learned about you guys from the video you did with Victoria and Rico. I love your vibe and have been doing a deep dive into multi hull sail boats. I’m super excited about your HH44. That to I’ve done a deep dive with all the videos i can find. I cant wait to see what’s to come. Many blessing being sent your way. XX
AND THE ADVENTURE BEGINS😁😁🛡️ I can't wait till you guys have a big slip " home base" that will ALWAYS be a home and private place of peace and recuperating after all your adventures and planning for next ones... I MISS THOSE VIDEOS OF " HELLO GIANT MOTHER HUMPBACK WHALE 😲🤗" YOUR JOURNEYS AS USUAL, ARE AWE INSPIRING, JOYOUS AND SUCH AN INSPIRATION TO WATCH 😍 I LOVE YOU GUYS 🛡️🛡️ AND ENDLESS THANKYOUS FOR INVITING ME TO VIRTUALLY COME WITH YOU AND GET SUCH A CONTACT HAPPY WITH YOU AND YOUR ADVENTURES 🌈🌎💎💎🛡️🛡️❤️
Wow I spent 2 year's in Charleston , South Carolina in 1949 and 1950 and I wouldn't recognize it now I was on the USS Arcadia AD 23 , have a safe sail south .😇
The rolling lights issue occurs when your shutter speed on your camera interferes with the light rays. Try adjusting your shutter speed and you should find a good balance so the rolling stops.
Jason, in Charleston you would’ve had “stone ground grits”, which are richer and creamier than the grits you’ve probably eaten in the past. Also, it looked like you were eating scallops and grits….umm, umm, good! Charleston is a mecca for Low Country Cuisine, which would include a large variety of fresh seafood and locally sourced produce. My mouth is watering!
I’ve had the pleasure of sailing a friends all composite 55’ tri off Oahu. Not a luxury yacht, more a sports car. Fun under sail but like a styrofoam cup coming into dock. I think it had 6’ of freeboard, single engine, no bow thrusters.
most trimarans to me seem to be an "upgraded" mono, or mono with training wheels. that trimaran looks awesome, designed for solo or just a couple sailing or couple with kids, it seems like tri's have tons of storage and less living space. catamaran's have a ton of living space almost designed for room for crew (2 couples sailing, one couple per side with a middle shared space).
We have been to Charleston in the summertime and the weather was awful, to our liking, too much humidity. It made it hard to enjoy. However, when a hurricane is coming in the weather is so much better..lol. We left just as the hurricane came on shore. Stunning boat so it will be a pleasure to watch as you sail. No worries about off the dock, you got that. :)
Quick tip for the rolling shutter effect. Drop your camera shutter speed a couple clicks as the frequency of the lights is close to shutter speed which causes this.
Or, adjust the frequency of the light which is what we tried while the camera was rolling. It's not always so simple. I did try adjusting the shutter speed but that can ruin other elements and it makes moving from one room to another tricky. The frequency of the lights were not all the same. It was a PITA!
Jason, you're such a gadget man. Love it!! Me too. I wish I could live the life you do. Please remember to enjoy every minute of it! Also, thanks for the hard work you put into this channel, love seeing what you're up to.
