We are Outwiththewind, Sorin and Ana aboard SY Mehalah. Only recently we resumed our circumnavigation after being stuck for more than 2 years in New Zealand.
We picked some light winds from Coromaandel peninsula, after surviving ex-tropical cyclone Dovi, to return to Great Barrier Island after more than 2 years. Whilst the inbound sailing was beautiful, the return passage to the mainland was not plain sailing. We felt like we had to pay a price for all the beautiful moments spent further discovering Great Barrier Island.

That was a pretty good run from Barrier, I've done it several times and often it takes twice that long, with the wind dropping. Of course it can be done in half that time too when the wind really blows.

We love the Great Barrier Island as a cruising ground and beyond, but in our case, it took the toll either when going or returning! 😅I guess this is sailing!😆

Happy you are enjoying our adventure, Brendan. Yes, Akaroa is superb, like the rest of NZ, only that we toured the South Island by campervan, not sailing…Sailing North Island was more than enough to fulfil our need for excitement!🤣🤣🤣
