The sail being offset toward ama looks like it works well, balance wise. That vortex is crazy... If ama had asymmetrical hull maybe would be more efficient on Atlantic tack, which wouldn't effect Pacific tack as its mostly skimming the surface. When my homebuilt proa went Atlantic tack it was smooth, but the ama was knife style with pronounced "V" bottom. Thats why these boats are fun, pick and choose what works and try new ideas as they are a sum of parts. About to try the tent thing myself soon. Also would rather not commit to spending my time doing work that is of no importance to me to pay for a place I don't want to live. Enjoyed the video.
That ama stem is sucking so much air! That's whack! You can't really add a vertical stem or forefoot to that pronounced a rake, but you could mess around with it by adding tubercles (the knobs on a humpbacks fins) and attempt to break the surface tension and induce the 'tubercle effect." Just an idea. Love the tent camping! When I modify Manuiki'iki this winter I am hoping to end up with enough deck area to sleep on the boat (weather permitting).
I notice that the bubble rope is coming in from the ama, following the leeway path, and this only happens when pressed hard to windward on the atlantic tack. I think maybe it will be improved by a leeboard because then there will be less leeway, the ama bow will be slicing more and dragging less. Didn't seem noticably bad on an atlantic reach, just close hauled. For a really delux camping experience I want a second awning that goes over the whole tent and platform. So if it's raining, you don't get rain in the tent went you open the door. It actually rained all night on this trip! I heroically just stayed inside and kept my gear dry!
I think that was either "preparations for a voyage" or "sliding doghouses" there were from aliexpress, which seems to have more sailing gear as time goes on
I love watching you Videos for the last 10 month a lot! I find it very empowering to see you getting stuff done in a decent DIY style! Unfortunately my ears aren't so good, so I also find it quite exhausting to to listen to you, which is too sad, because one can learn from you! Please consider a better and less wind effected sound recording. Thanks anyway
Thanks for the encouragement! Hmm, I did a little bit of investigation and it looks like I might be able to to reduce the wind noise afterwards in software. I know that using special recording equipment would also work but that would make editing a lot more complicated and it already takes too long. I'll try removing the wind noise on my next video!
