After almost 8 months of working onboard a Cargo Ship, I am finally signing off! But it wasn't without glitches so watch the video to join me in my journey home.
Thank you guys for watching, most especially to everyone who joined me in the chatroom earlier during the premiere. It was fun chatting with you guys while waiting for the video to play. I'll try to do that again as much as possible for future uploads. 👍😄⚓
So true my friend. Instead of dragging out a too obvious and scripted plot, with all the hyperbole, we get to see a glimpse of real life as a sea farer. I love it. If you start a sponsored channel, count me in.
@@aviovintage not really a scripted plot. I fish for a living, and there's no way to script it. I don't fish for crab, which is one of the easiest fisherys to work in, though. I scallop, out of New Jersey. They got the name of the show because of the profession, not the fishery. Dont be fooled.
I’ve spent 22 years in the US Navy. Though our experiences and missions traveling the world’s oceans are much different, times out at sea and the feeling away from our families are undeniably the same. Your videos brought back memories that I will always cherish, but waking up in my own bed and seeing the smile of my beautiful wife and kids made all those sacrifices worth it. Your videos are a testament to your hard work and dedication to your career and your family. Congrats on all your successes.
You are speaking volumes to your kids through imparting your values, and sacrificing for them. They get to see their father walking the talk through your videos. I'm actually jealous of your sense of duty.
Dear Chief, You are a great storyteller. Everything, from your voice, to your diction, to the way you intricately piece together all aspects of the story and finally present them so wonderfully; you almost make us live the actual moments you describe. The patience and dedication both of your's and your family's, especially your wife's, that's what makes it all worth it. Best wishes to you in these trying times, stay safe, stay healthy and God bless.
All supervisors could learn a thing or two from the Chief about being a good leader, and all workers should take cues from him on being a reliable teammate and having a good attitude.
Just discovered your channel, I could honestly say that finding your channel is one of the biggest top findings on RU-vid. You are a gem of a man, your smile and prospect of positivity is contagious man..True example professionalism 👌🏻👌🏻.your narrative skill and video making is a marvellous story telling ,soothing.
New to watching but your positivity is infectious. Take everything in stride and look for the brightest side of the dreariest days. I could learn a thing or two from you. Thank you Chief.
My husband is a seafarer. Thankful that through your vlogs I now understand what are the activities/work/job inside the ship. The vlog was indeed informative and entertaining as well. Good job sir. Salute to all seafarers! God speed🙏
I’ve been watching your channel for awhile now. I’m a truck driver in the U.S. I feel you on being away from the family for your birthday I just turned 40 also. Well Happy Birthday 🎊🎈🎂 I hope you enjoyed it and finally made it home. Salute and thanks for the great content. Stay safe brother
Chief MAKOi discovering your you-tube channel has been a delight, being a resident of a city along the Columbia river and having sailed myself up and down it, I wish you fair winds and smooth sea's in your future!
Missing a lot of family life is just a fact of life for many types of work. It certainly is with railroading US style. When you hire on a railroad you accept it as your way of life for the next 30 years or so. It's all part of providing your family a good life. A belated Happy Birthday Chief.
In all your VLogs chief MAKOi, in all your vlogs I have seen you are by far a very dedicated and committed officer of your crew, and I "salute" you for your courage and honesty you have for team members and loving family to understand your passion. God Bless and God Speed.
Great humility and wonderful philosophy about the true life aboard ship and the sacrifices one has to endure. A true gentleman and a real professional!
Wow like the way how chief just walks all around the ship before leaving , capturing memories in his heart is pure love ❤️ ❤️❤️.Chief does love his job very much.
With the right attitude, constitution, a loyal wife and family waiting at home.... all things are possible. Thanks for the ride, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Honestly, I discovered your RU-vid channels just recently and I must say your videos has really helped me to learn a lot. I'm few months to come I am expecting to be onboard as an engine cadet and watching your videos is awesome. Thank you for using your videos to help us learn. Etukudo from Nigeria.
That was quite emotional at the end. but your partner clearly has done this many times over the years. I love the feeling of stepping off the ship, the moment you walk down the gangway and onto land you feel like your free ! and the best part is knowing everything back onboard is being taken care of and you can just relax and enjoy your vacation time. it takes a lot of dedication to work onboard for long periods of time like you do, My contracts thankfully are 2 months on and 2 off and were paid year round. to do 7 months is a lot, especially for a chief engineer. you have a great attitude towards your job and the company are lucky to have someone like you. Thanks for more good content. you inspire me to want to make videos as a chef onboard the research vessel I work on!
This has to be one of the most likeable guys on RU-vid. After eight months at sea and all the holdups of signing off, he is just so layer back about all the delays of going home, he never showed any bad feelings to the ship owners. Have a great time with your family, you deserve it.
You are one of thousands who do this job but Chief, you are a special one to bring us into this life you lead and this journey that is your life. I am so thankful there are people like you in this world that do the things you do. I can not imagine the strength it takes to give the sacrifices you do.
Happy Birthday and congratulations on the completion of the mission. As a retired military member, that was always a priority. To be properly relieved before leaving. You sir are a shining example of a professional seaman. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and stories with us. May God bless you with smooth seas and good ships in all of your voyages.
I love watching your videos Chief, you have such a great voice narrating your videos which are always beautifully crafted and edited. You showed such patience and professionalism waiting to go home. Have a fantastic home leave. Many thanks from Stewart in Scotland.
You're an extrodanary man with great values! Your family must be extremely proud of you. Keep the awesome videos coming our way (no better way for you to pass the time) Thank You!
I lke following your youtube channel. I once was a US Navy Service Member and US Coast Guard Service Member for a total of 12 years. Time does stand still, but since I have been out for the second time of over 14 years from the US Coast Guard, I can only reflect on the time I did serve. Some things I miss, and some I don't. Your youtube channel is so well done, so well put together and shows a just a mer glimpse of what sea life actually is for those who don't understand. The calling to sea is wonderful, the missing of the sea hurts. There seems to be no happy medium, but so happy it was shared this way. Chief MAKOi, you deserve time at home. Have a good rest at home.
My Father passed away when I was in the Arabian Sea - on station during the Iranian Hostage crisis. It took me two days to get off the carrier, two more days to get through Oman to Diego Garcia, two days to get to Clark Air Base on Luzon, and two more days to get to San Diego (by way of Guam and Yokota, Japan). Another two days to finally get to Chicago for the funeral. Chief - believe me - I UNDERSTAND - making the best.
Married to a Pinoy. Came to your channel bc of Baltimore accident. Learning so much. So many Filipino men are in the maritime occupation. Very interesting.
Let me copy the line of one of your followers, Im not a seafarer but the way you narrate life on board is so magnetic that would be so attached and be glued to watch it. Mabuhay ang mga seamen! Hope the Phil govt treats you well!!! And your family.
This is the *best* video I've seen on RU-vid. Ever! I love your attitude made, and every time you smiled, you made me smile. Thank you for this brilliant snippet of your life at sea.
Chief makoi this video trynna make me cry. Very dramatic when in case of your homesickness but very motivating to do your job for the future of your love ones. I salute to you chief. Welcome home!
There are times that I miss being at sea. I did six years in the U.S. Navy. Great video Chief ! Happy Birthday and a pleasant reunion with your family and friends !
I live in Portland Oregon about 1 hour away from Longview. I have fished in the Columbia for many years there. I have seen many ships and crew men wave all the time. In the 70’s there was a longshoreman strike and ships where anchored up and down the river for weeks. After a few weeks some of the ships had to buy supplies from the store and I helped a few Japanese men looking for food they might like. There was a language barrier yes but we managed. The next day they drop their life boats and came over to see how to fish. All they had was a hand line and no fishing poles and jigs. We let the use some fishing poles and bait showed the how to use the reals. They fished for about 4 hours. We caught a 18 pound salmon that day and when they came to return the poles to us we gave them the salmon. They were pretty damn surprised and very happy. The next day they putted over and invited us to dinner on the ship. Their cook prepared the salmon and rice with some other food. They didn’t speak much English and we spoke no Japanese but we had so much fun seeing their family pictures and taking pictures with them. I am sure today this would not be allowed for many reasons. I was 16 then and sure learned a lot about people. If you in the Columbia river and someone waves to you it could be me and my grand kids. Wonderful video
Thanks for sharing that David! Due to the very strict rules nowadays, it is no longer possible to just use the lifeboat to go ashore and there are a lot of restrictions when it comes to shore leave as well.
Great Video Chief. I have watched your others as well. I found your sincerity and dedication in this video uplifting. Happy 40th too. Thanks for sharing.
I like your narration as much as the actual video. It's so interesting to see and hear about a life so different than mine has been. Thanks so much for these insights into your world.
If it wasn't for the given I would have never found This Excellent channel I was an over the road trucker for years if I'm out more than 6 weeks It seems like an eternity Boy do I feel for you
Hello Chief, You went to my state of Washington, it was good to see Longview, even from your point of view. I have worked aboard ship and love it, but that was a longtime ago. Enjoy your videos, hope to see more. Take care, Duane
God bless your family man. Isn't it such a wonderful feeling to see family after a long time!! Very nice video, and congratulations to the guy who got promoted !!
Beautiful vid, you have a beautiful wife, you are beautiful people! I joined the British Merchant Navy straight from school ( sea school ) back in 1980, I loved it, but I wasn`t self-disciplined enough to appreciate the opportunity laid before me, I just took everything for granted. I left the navy less than two years later, following a family tragedy, the company even made sure that I got home from abroad as quickly and stress-free as possible, again I took for granted. Eventually, I joined the Army, the rest is history, as they say. Life at sea is not for everyone, but what job/career is? But the rewards are almost incomparable, self-development, close-knit reliable team environment, and easily achievable career advancement if desired and of course, travel and adventure, what's not to love?! Keep the vids coming mate, I`m enjoying every one of them :)
- Hey captain my contract was ended - But office says on-signer isn't ready yet, hopefully next port - But I'm ready to go off - Don't worry, more days more money True story. Anyway I wish you all the best. Greetings from Poland!
Fantastic chief.... You recorded every moment that sea man has to go through. I recall my signing off days from ship. Actually you have fulfill my dreams to show the world of the seaman life Thank you soo much.... By the way I stop sailing past 30yrs and all my expirience gain as seaman give me an opportunity to be a technical instructor in Cummins . All the best chief......
Wow, what a journey, I felt as if I am returning home after 8 months, loved the way you narrated, picturised, love the positivism you have towards carrier, life , hat's off chief.
I have been watching many of your videos. This one moved me the most with the emotion and patience you had in getting back home. I really enjoy seeing what it is like being onboard a MV and the contrast with the work/tasks that have to be done and the teamwork. Wonderful that you helped your colleague in promotion to Chief Engineer too.
Chief, I am a veteran video and film producer and recreational sailor aboard a 41 foot ketch in the great lakes. I thoroughly, enjoy watching your videos especially this one with a very articulate narration and great video coverage. Love the drone stuff and you must have two iPhones or something to shoot what you do. Thanks so much. Keep up the good work. God bless you.
I can feel you...it's strange suddenly I was recommended this channel today...I was a Sailor for 13 yrs and I stopped when I was a chief mate of the 400m giant containerships....and I also couldn't sign off during Covid and kept calm like you....I know the feeling and I'm surprised that there are patient people like you and me out there...more power to you man... I quit already but salute your dedication. Bon voyage.
Fantastic videos! You seem to capture the life of a merchant navy officer in todays shipping sector. I haven't been to sea for over 30 years now but prior to that spent 27 mostly enjoyable years in the merchant service. Keep up the good work!
This is only my 2nd time finding your channel. Very interesting and well-done shows. You explain things so well and help the non-sailor understand better the life on a ship. Happy Trails
Yes indeed a very touching and motivation story , as a Malaysian , i spent a year working in the Philippines during the 80's , as time passed i felt in love with Lupang Hinirang and her people . Mabuhay Pilipinas ! Kababayan na ako noon ,,,,,,,,,,,!
Very inspiring video Chief i really admired your patience and dedication and I didn't notice my tears fall down when you and your family finally met.More power.. ..
Chief, hello from Pennsylvania, USA. I've never sailed on a big ship, but I'm really enjoying your videos. Thank you for taking the time to make them, you've earned another subscriber! Safe travels to you Sir and best wishes to you and your family.
