@@PredictableEnigma Probably just to describe how everybody he showed is butt hurt over the people trying to restore it. I do agree it seems like they’re more pointing something out than ranting aggressively, but I could see where he’d get a misunderstanding. Especially considering it’s Twitter.
@@Astrio- Maybe or maybe not. But I will say that Twitter has been and does get milked for a lot of manufactured rage bait that doesn't really exist. Kotaku article be like: Woke feminists are trying to cancel masculinity in this video game! Twitter: Has like 8 tweets and one of them 20 likes. Nobody seems to actually click on the links to verify whether or not anything is true and that's a huge problem. People rather hear what they want to hear, then hear the truth. It's really sad. Idk if it's gotten a lot better or not, but 2017-2020 shit was crazy. This stuff was rampant and got views like hotcakes. Just like the old "Karen gets DESTROYED" type shit that would get a lot of views. So of course modern "journalism" haha, would use and abuse this and milk views from it. Of course they would exploit the hell out of it. It was super effective too and still is.
I never realized just how large the color difference was for Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball z. Got to say I really do want to watch it all in the original colors now
Maybe it was growing up with Kai and TFS in the late 2000s and early 2010s, but Vegeta _without_ the pink skin and blue gloves just doesn't quite hit the same. Still really interested to see more of Dragon Ball with its OG palate, though.
Someone posted a picture on Twitter of herself cutting up her son’s huge meatball and made a joke about how their son got upset and cried. And someone comes in and says that the parent took their son’s autonomy away and called the mother a monster lol. Anyone who has been around children know kids cry over stupid stuff, but on Twitter it makes them a bad parent who will forever traumatize their kid.
This content creator is the one flipping out 💀 “A HUGE chunk of internet said that it's EVIL and WRONG!!” The comments in question: “The pink looks better imo”
As someone that watched the show in the 90's I can say that the series were as the "original" looks and all the merch I got back then as well. The pink thing is a trend now days to make stuff look "vintage" and cute.
I think they're used to seeing the pink hues because of the Sailor Moon edits used online for songs like the "Plastic Love" song you're using on this video. I guess it adds to the "vibe" they think of when they think Sailor Moon.
@@MintyDreamsThat's literally what they said, that it's a matter of preference. 💀 Oh yeah, and maybe I'm reading too much into this, but you're kinda the one here who's shitting on someone else's preference here. Which really matches the original thread, since the people who liked the pink hue was actually quite chill, and the people that thought the original was better were the ones losing their shits over personal preferences.
Like wine vs grape juice. Some like the aesthetic that builds with age (colour change over years/wine), some like the pop of freshness (original/grape juice).
Nobody’s sayin we can’t prefer one over the other out of being used to it. What IS weird is that mfs are using a preference as the justification that a preservationist work is “ruining” Sailor moon lmfao Most of the people weren’t even complaining too hard anyways. Just a dismissive “I like the og better” which I understand on paper but is probably shitty to here in mass while working on a restoration project for free with a small team. I like the washed out poorly scanned old Pokémon art even if it wasn’t intentional. While it was reality breaking to see the intended art not be so washed out, I still think it’s cool, has value and 100% is something more that HAS to be done. and I’m honored to live in a time to get to see an alternate take over a piece of art that I liked. I still like the poorly scanned versions more, but I won’t lie and say there’s no value in the proper scans due to my own personal biases
@@theradionicrevival8068 What a great comparison! I, too, prefer the poor quality/scanned, improperly colored Pokemon! I don't dislike the intended colors either, by any means. I just lean toward preferring the ones I grew up with in my childhood. As far as Sailor Moon, I also think the pink hue is nice, personally, even if that isn't the OG and wasn't intended. In general, I've always been a fan of what Sailor Moon does with color, the unintended pink hue kind of further saturates that and makes it look even more vibrant and ethereal or dream-like, I think at times it also helps upbeat and "poppy" scenes.. well, pop, more. But, again, I don't think the original and intended looks bad, either. Absolutely not. It's just a slight preference for one over the other. One that's entirely subjective and personal. This just happens to be mine. That being said, in every instance mentioned here, regardless of what "version" it is, the art and media itself is fucking fantastic and top tier stuff. I wouldn't sneeze at or complain regardless of what coloration I got. I'm just a fan of the series and franchise as a whole. I think that's sort of most important and heavily outweighs any minor distinctions or ever so slight preference for color or tone. Apologies for lengthiness. To anyone still reading this, hey, I hope you're having a rad and awesome day, cool random internet stranger dude bro person(s). I wish you the best of luck in any and all of your pursuits, passions and endeavors. And may the RNG gods smile upon you.
@@theradionicrevival8068You’re just dismissing it as personal preference to imply there’s no good reason why people prefer the aged look and even somehow making it some ethical dilemma(?). If you care about preserving the actual colors that much then don’t worry, there’s such thing as color codes to objectively archive and recreate. What you CAN’T recreate over and over are those unintentional misprints, happy mistakes, and the uniqueness of an aging in a very specific way for a very specific show.
@@TheB14HB14H It’s a Gen Z thing lol, obviously there are different aesthetics but calling things “aesthetic” with the star emojis is a bit cringe, just honestly comes with the territory lol, most slowed reverb videos are 90s anime so it’s what you’d expect..

I thought it was only because it's fragile and trying to clean it at this point is too high of a risk of removing paint by mistake. I don't think most classical art enthusiastis like the yellowed oxidized varnish.
@PredictableEnigma the Museo del Prado, Madrid - Spain has a Mona Lisa painting that was probably made at the same time the OG Mona Lisa was by Da Vinci students, and the colors are kept closer to original
The Mona Lisa isn't even that remarkable. The only reason it got that famous, is it being stolen many decades ago. Before that, hardly anyone cared about it. As a Da Vinci, it was worth a lot, but no one thought of it being anywhere close to being Da Vincis best work.
I mean, they genuinely remeber the original being pink tho. It is not that they are toxic (They are, in a lot of cases tho), but instead it is just a showcase of how weak our memories are
Tbf; ive read the tweets here they range from just going the pink is better and fits, to like hyperbolic reactions. Idt its accurate to be like THE SAILOR MOON COMMUNITY IS SO ANGRY! When theyre just like joking around or stating their opinion contrary to what the intended takeaway is.
Sailor Moon was a big show in my childhood, and I knew pink wasn't the original pallet, although it does look nice and feel nostalgic. I thought the pink was just a nice aesthetic filter type thing, and both look great! But also, let's be honest, Twitter is always mad about *_something_*
I agree with you 100%, my mom grew up watching Sailor Moon and I like the anime cuz I think the old 90's colors are cute for the old animes plus it's better than what we have now thanks to crazy fan girls, plus this is why I'm glad I don't have Twitter because it's evil and why no one likes it.
@@summersnyder5436 Twitter has just more fans. Less casual watchers in a way. And as a fan of alot stuff: Keep it original, keep it real. Also the pink "filter" has a major problem. Because it's in general rotting, it was only slightly pink in the early 2000s, got worse over time. Now some scenes are almost red. So if people want a future proof version, it should "not keep this way", otherwhise the future we don't have it at all. Why? It will get worse and worse with the original material. Why does many online don't get that? You are a fan of sailormoon? Help those guys. You are a fan with the pink "filter", use pink glasses und watch then the restorated version.
Ok this makes so much sense because I used to think Sailor Moons bows were red as a kid and then when I got older I saw they were so obviously dark pink- but the original color does actually look closer to red lol
Exactly, I always wondered why recent images looked so much pinker than what I remember watching; its cause I watched it as a kid on Toonami with the original colors. I remember her bow being bright red.
well, but when everything has a pink tint, the pink _is_ red, even if they version you watched had always been pink tinted, you could still think of it as red because it's an optical ilusion
I remember growing up in Cyprus, Sailor Moon on tv was not pink. When I saw it again as an adult, I was like ‘wow, I don’t remember the characters being so pink!’
I watched Sailor Moon when it originally came stateside (at 5:30 am!) and do not remember her being pink ever, lol. I thought folks were just Vaporwaving gifs/stills to give it that pink tint. I still have a lot of my US Sailor Moon merch, dolls, tapes, and recorded tv broadcasts, and none of that was pink either. 😅
@NJ973201 I was in Texas, so central time zone for me! I always tried to watch it when it aired but I used to get sick from not getting enough sleep and waking up too early. My mom started recording the show so I could watch it when I got up around 6. 💖 So many wonderful memories.
Yeah. I watched Sailor Moon when it aired too, then was unhappy when they cut it and refused to show the end of the first season. Dragonball and DBZ aired at 4 am and 4:30 am for me before Sailor Moon. I didn't like DBZ, but the original Dragonball was great. I eventually turned to pirating satellite rips of the Japanese sailor moon to figure out what happened, and then I hated the show for a while after that. I did not like the ending of the first season. XD I was lucky. I lived next to a backbone fiber node in 1999. I was able to get fiber internet in early 2000. My home internet connection was faster than an entire university's internet combined. Back then universities ran on T3. Fiber back then the internet was more responsive than it is today. Clicking on a web page link instantly popped it up with no delay. It's difficult to explain. Anime fansubs existed in the 90s. For anyone who is curious before bit torrent XDCC was how you downloaded anime.
Yeah, it makes it feel like that old recording that has aged over decades. But not how it was. A bit like pixel art games. Stuff didn't look like that back in the day.
@@CockroachMunchingKrabbyPatty reading comprehension clearly isnt your strong suit. So to put in simple form, they're comparing the nostalgic feeling of finding old childhood shows to the feeling of the pink hue in the new sailor moon
I acutally prefer the pinker pallet because it overall gives a warmer tone to the show... but I'm also not an idiot and look at every piece of offical art showing the correct pallet. As far as aging goes there is a level to it that makes the colour pallet feel nostalgic.
i feel like everyone is spectacularly missing the point there lol its not about "it looks better without the pink" its about "it originally didnt have the pink, so we should at least have access to it in the original colour schemes, whatever version is better or worse"
Honestly my experience is Twitter has a lot more intelligent people than Reddit. Yes I have also seen more bigotry on it, but if I look for someone to discuss things with, twitter seems like it is more likely to give me someone, that actually knows their stuff.
Literally all of the people in the screenshots shown aren't protesting the restoration and are just giving their opinion. Hyperbole for the sake of view looks like it.
While some ppl might have been angry, this person is blowing it out of proportion. Twitter may be insane but so is RU-vid clickbait. The examples he showed for ppl getting mad are ppl reasonably giving their opinion. DEAR GOD! HOW DARE THEY HAVE AN OPINION!

Its been a shitstorm on twitter for days; he showed less than ten tweets. Its a RU-vid short what did you expect. You've also neglected the fact that the shitstorm is directly attacking someone who is just trying to restore the actual anime; they're targeting a specific person. Attacking someone whose trying to restore an old piece of media isn't "just preferring the pink" lol

@@roblue5470 definetly is. The most I've seen someone getting mad in twitter about this is one or two people saying that the people who like the pink one don't care about restoration.
@@Nocturne989Based on what he showed which were actually just people saying they like pink more, no arguing, I assumed he was being dramatic for comedic purposes. I assumed this video was hyperbole. A joke. A bit.
uhhhh as someone who grew up during the vhs and dvd era, no. i would choose how the show would look like how it was back then with the "original" color
This is akin to people finding out white marble statues were actually painted or that paintings were not painted in warm brown tones. The varnish just got old and discolored the paintings.
As someone who only ever watches the dvd release, it doesn’t need the pink hue. It is already such a dreamy and pretty looking series on its own. The artistic director really did their thing and the show is already so beautiful as originally intended. I also really love watching it on my CRT TV. It gives it the nostalgic feel without needing to alter the original material.
This is the animation equivalent of saying "I prefer the newer release of this song because they messed up on the remaster and now it sounds different, and any effort to restore the original sound is evil."
Literally all of the people in the screenshots shown aren't protesting the restoration and are just giving their opinion. No one said it was evil, nice fuckin straw man he has there. Hyperbole for the sake of view looks like it.
Edit: mystery solved! As CB below says, it's very likely due to how VHS's had more subdued colors for 90s kids and older, so the subdued pinks of the color grading may evoke more nostalgia in us than the bright colors of the original due to that! And that totally tracks, because I didn't grow up on Sailor Moon (rather, I watched it on Hulu as an adult). And yet I still see the pink as more nostalgic even so. However, I did have VHS's in my early childhood, which explains it! I think this is a very cool and interesting psychological phenomenon, so I'm glad for all the answers but especially CB's one that solved it! OG I think what it is is that the pink not only adds a lil extra girly charm that tracks pretty well with the show, but it also sort of gives a bit of a 90s VHS type feel, if that makes sense. It feels oddly vintage for some reason. More nostalgic somehow, even if it's not the actual original. It'd be interesting to hear from someone who knows about color theory as to why they think the pink does this.
Pink fits the girly and cute tone of the show, so some people think it looks better and more ""aesthetic"". It was basically luck that toei used a pink fading shitty tape to record it on wwwww If it was on a tape that degraded to green like DBZ, it's likely that more people would like the restored version better bc it doesn't fit the aesthetics or the original colors used in the show So like TLDR: toei accidentally color graded their anime
@@eldritchomen ah, yes, I figured that much. I also agree that it does add a nice extra charm to the show. What I was asking was more like... Why does the pink make us feel this way? Like, psychologically. I understand how the pinkness plays along wonderfully with the girly vibes of the show. What I'm looking to understand psychologically, however, is why the pink makes us think "nostalgia", but especially the "vintage" part. Why does the pink make this feel vintage, when the original is older yet does not? Why is it that this coloring pattern feels vintage to us?
@SpecialInterestShow I can assume that it has to do something similar with sepia effect, colors became less saturated, warmer more cohesive and brain thinks "looks like something old" Just my theory
The warmth of pink is probably why people like it. If you look up color psychology you'll find stuff. Mostly it'll just give you a good idea, but there are a lot of contradicting things based on the context of the color and it varies across cultures. But it's a good basis to help you kind of interpret what a color means especially in conjunction with other colors and the specific shade of each that you are working with. Ultimately it's very subjective and you have to go off of your own feelings. In this case, because it is a very warm, soft pink, it probably has something to do with the coziness, creativity, admiration, love, and girliness. It does also darken the colors which maybe people like that, personally I do think the old colors look better, though the pink background is nice.
A video serious of you reacting to the lore of JTTW is fire. You have such a unique and fun expression that makes watching you react to anything so enjoyable.
As someone who has the old dvds(bough them in the early 2000s and they're fansubs), I always thought ppl were putting a pink filter on the screenshots. XD genuinely surprised 😂
ah yep def framing it as evil!! how dare people say "yeah I think the pink fits better" like barely anyone was actually mad over this? it was more just people sharing which one they liked more. if anything I saw the most heated comments coming from people on the side of the original colours even though no one was saying it HAD to be pink (no one being hyperbole, there where probably ppl who where mad but I for one never encountered em and they weren't shown here)
This reminds me of how pixel art was inspired by old games played on CRTs but that’s never how the sprites actually looked. They looked pixelated because we now play those games on new monitors that work differently from CRTs. If you boot up an old game on a CRT the “pixelated sprites” actually look detailed and more 3d than the pixel art that you THINK it is.
They... they're probably mostly still alive. Like the author of Sailor Moon's married to the guy who did Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter×Hunter. They have two kids.
You say that like they're dead and like artists don't like different versions of their art...? As an artist, I like putting filters over my art. _It's fun._ They may like one more than the other individually, they can also just like both. This was a corporate project after all, this isn't exactly something that was purely theirs. I don't think people ACTUALLY know how paid and professional animation businesses work...

I can't really fault someone who only has a second-hand knowledge of Berserk for believing that it belongs to the same group. 😅 If anything, I'm mad that Berserk sadly got this treatment, while Elfen Lied still remains untouched to this day.
It's ridiculous that people would waste their time attacking a person for wanting to restore the visuals of a TV series, when they could just mind their business and literally watch the aged colored version of the show anytime they want
I grew up watching Sailor Moon long back before we had a DvD and we were still watching movies on VHS in the early to late 90's, but I can confirm Sailor Moon always looked the "original" way. But the pink hue does give it a cute vibe.
I have no history of watching it. But I do like the pink toned version better because it seems the hair shadows in the original are just dark yellow, which looks like swamp green. It looks like an old microsoft paint palette. Much more in favour of the seemingly more refined pink tinted ones.
It makes me think of how color in Akira animation cels are actually a lot darker and more muted to compensate for how they'd be photographed and composited with the best technologies they had at the time. My roommate has a Sailor Moon animation cel she bought in Japan decades ago. The colors are very different in-person compared to how they look in the show itself. Part of this might also be because the paint used in animation isn't common acrylics or watercolors. It had to be specially formulated to work for animation; to be easy to clean off, but endure the heat, chemical treatments and handling of getting it ready to layer and photograph, able to be opaque but applied as thin as possible, etc. All these different properties of the paint probably affect how it can be photographed and how it ages. Funny how old anime isn't as much if a candy-colored eyeburn as it's stereotyped to be in a way because of this.
Y'know, I'll be honest, I kinda like both. I see it as an absolute win that people are restoring the original, AND that over time, the aged cells took on a vibrant pink hue that made some of the more muted colors a little more vibrant.
People know the pink isn't og but it's really pretty and feels suiting for the show. I don't think fighting someone for fixing it should be an issue cause you still have the pink version
Og Sailor Moon fan coming in. I've never even seen the pink colourized rendition and I'm kinda glad. It does make it more ”girlie” but I'm also an artist with the majority of my artistic education, skill, and innate knowledge in the field of colour and the original colours were very meticulously chosen, let me tell you. To overlay a pink glaze over everything is to mess with the fundamental artistic skill the colorists spend years of not decades to cultivate. It's spring on the work of so many insanely skilled people. Coloring professionally is nowhere near as easy as kids putting down random colors in their colouring books even to the point that it's possible that coloring something wrong could mess with size comparisons, shades and highlights, and even so much as to med up actual proportion. Sure a slight pink tint isn't the biggest deal in the world but when colors were picked with such care it's only right to restore them to their original glory. Pink-washing them does an injustice too the anime. Sorry for the rant, I'm just really into colour and colour theory 💜
I think for a lot of people (me included) finding out that the way you watched or read a series was apparently the “””wrong””” version just really sucks, so we’ll come up with reasons why it was “better”
@pixeiotto122 While yes, there are that are those who take too far I agree, but that doesn't mean we should be complacent and not ask of the people who give us said products for better and faithful versions
@@DeltaNovo In this situation, it's especially untrue imo because you've got the actual most faithful version. You've got the cleanest most original pure version of the original episodes. But people are mad because they've grown up with the modified version first and they've decided that it was the definitive way to experience the anime because of their nostalgia. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with preferring one version or the other. What is stupid is trying to say that you've been "robbed of the original or the best version" or whatever when it's blatantly untrue. You're better off saying you're just slightly dissapointed because you didn't have the version you grew up with and leave it at that instead of making things grow like they did on X but that's way too much to ask for people on the internet. It's a recess (I use "you" as a generic you. I'm not aiming at the actual you dw.)
@pixeiotto122 Yeah, I agree. I just wanted to say my view on all of this and how it's personally frustrating and not saying not all people ( which I admit there are some that do take it too far but not all ) who air their frustration are not doing it out of pure malice ( sorry if I Sound all over the place just wanted to have a conversation about all of this and wanted to give my piece )
I knew I wasn't crazy! I remember the original colors. I went back to watch it with my daughter and couldn't figure out for the life of me why it was so pink. Definitely here for the original colors.
I do genuinely prefer the pink for most scenes though, It evens out those saturated colors in some scenes that actually hurt my eyes when i was younger
I will say for an anime all about femininity and innocence winning against evil That desaturated pink fits the series way better than the original colors, even if it goes against the author's original intent
I can kinda get why people think wrong, with the tone of Sailor Moon thr pink feels.. intended. Yes I get the art is not designed to be such, just matches the vibes.
Exactly. When I explained to a friend that “tv back then” looked different than the “oldies” versions that are sometimes played, I don’t think he understood either.
I feel kinda bad seeing people say that they had Sailor moon episodes w the normal color, since when I watched it my mom brought them from a cheap store and they had this pink tint due to being old and the TV being bad 😭
