Most of the time you can find anything and everything online but not in this case...at least I couldn't find anything specific to a Yammer 3YM30 / 20 / 2YM15 diesel engine. So here you go, step by step instructions, on how to change the coolant in this type of engine by me, Nicole...in a bikini of course. ;) Feel free to let me know how I did! Cheers!

It's a fantastic idea that you are learning as much as you can. I hope you never have to do it all, but at least you will be able if the need arises. My wife and I live in a travel trailer, and she is slowly learning the things that I take care of all the time. Great job, take care of each other and stay safe. From Charlie.

With my bad back and my wife's health problems it's a good idea for us to stay on land. I guess I'll just have to live my dreams through sailing channels. Take care and stay safe

Great job , just a quick tip when opening the coolant cap with a still warm engine... • mark sure you can squeeze the large coolant hoses easily...no or little pressure • throw a towel over the cap so hot coolant can't burn you • when opening the cap , press down & control the release.....I've seen & heard the blood curdling scream when things go wrong☹ BUT again great job..cheers

Good job Nicole... The "radiator cap" will most likely allow the coolant all to run out without being opened because the cap has valve to allow the expansion tank coolant back into the motor when it's cold. As the expansion tank is above the "radiator cap" gravity should allow for the tank to drain at the same time.

Many thanls for the video. I just won another battle with my engine, rebuildong the water pump and replacing the gearbox. Next move - the coolant 🤦‍♀️

I have the same issue when laying on my back turning a bolt. Even though I know clock wise is tighten and counter clock wise is loosen ( most of the time (damn pesky left than threaded bolts) ), I still have to repeat that to my self as I start to turn the bolt or screw.

Great vid ,methodical steps and easy to follow....to add I've never seem racor diesel so clean in the view bowl...Question whats the thingy on top of the racor handle looks like a vacuum indicater to say when filter is blocked? Was it standard or and aftermarket purchase to know when the filter is getting blocked?

Hi Louis. Thanks for the comment. We often operate in areas that are very remote and/or dangerous areas for engines to fail (for example while transiting the strong current in the narrow reef passes of coral atolls) so we tend to be fairly anal about stuff like clean fuel... For what it's worth, we have 3YM30s that use a small fraction of the Racor's capacity even at WOT. Yes, the thingy on the handle is a vacuum gauge (good call!) Specifically it's this one - defender.com/en_us/racor-t-handle-vacuum-indicator-gauge-rk32348 Thanks again for commenting and please let us know if you have any other observations or questions! Cheers - Ryan

Thanks for informative video. The video didnt show how you flushed the water out. Did you close all plugs and run the engine with the water in or just let the water drain through? Also, were you mixing new coolant with destilled water?
@TwoAfloat
@TwoAfloat Год назад
Hi there Erik. I did run a round of fresh water through but didn't show it. We didn't run the engine to circulate it though...only to get any little debris stuff out if any. I just closed everything up, poured the water in to full and open it all back up and collected it. IF the coolant looked bad then we would have done a proper fresh flush but the coolant looked perfect. :) N

Any issues with needing to bleed air out of the system afterwards? Thx for the video!
@TwoAfloat
@TwoAfloat Год назад
We did need to bleed a couple of times. Easy to do, just took time (letting the engine cool down enough). :) N

What size is the hose you're fitting into drain cock? I need to get one too, I've been using a funnel and it doesn't really fit in there ...
