Sailor's Hornpipe - Last Night Of The Proms 2006 

Its this sort of inspired lunacy that makes me really glad I was born here.

I love the one asian guy standing in the crowd at 0:33 looking terrible confused at what's happening.

those folks honking are standing by a long held tradition with Last Night of the Proms. The first half of the night is for the orchestra, and many times in the history of the Proms the conductor has admonished the audience to remind them. The second half of the night is for both the audience and the orchestra and audience participation is encouraged. The Proms from the 70's if you can get hold of them are incredible. As are the Proms conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent.

I've no idea how many times I've watched this by now, but I guarantee you, that number will be doubled several times before I'm tired of it. Can't help but coming back to this every so often

I was once involved in a group tap dance to this on stage for a dance show. We all thought our feet were going to fall off near the end as we tried to keep time!

This is simply fantastic. I always liked watching the proms on the telly from here in Oz. The sailors hornpipe and the 1812 overture were big favourites of mine.

@duguk I emailed Auntie about this (a british term for the BBC), and they said that they removed it for reasons of keeping the program fresh and inovating. They plan to bring back the ENTIRE Fantasia On Sea Songs for 2011

No, that's something completely different. It's called Barnacle Bill...it's likewise a hornpipe, but there the similarity ends.

after nearly fifty years of watching the proms...I still want a high powered rifle to take out the 'hilarious jokers' with the airhorns, flags, inflatables,etc...

Such a shame they weren't in last year I was at the Swansea Last Night, and I had no idea they WEREN'T going to do the sea shanties. They were my favourite bit! Instead we got that modern nonsense by some pretentious teenager. PAH! I was 16 at the time, and I had better taste in classical music than that oaf. Even the orchestra hated it, one of the violinists apparantly looked at my mum (who was giving a look of concerned distaste) and shrugged! Awful drivel, not worth loosing the beloved horns
