I can attest the long bristles can be an issue. My bit grabbed a hold off them, melted the bristles to the bit and then broke the bit. The bit length to the bristle level was spot on and the cut was 2 mm deep. All happened in less than 10 minutes for me to run into the house to get some water to drink. Just happened the other day.

Thank you for the informative videos. Iv used a lil technique for keeping my work are clean and clear while cutting. This lil thing is great. Basically cut a piece of painters tape 2 1/2"x 1/8" and fold it over the bit place the tape so you have equal on share on both side of the bit. Now you are balanced and you created a fan for cooling and displacing chips off work zone. Iv used this for a long time even when using a drill or drill press. Give it a try I have never had any trouble with motors as long as you balance the tape on each side. The tape will stay on even on high rpm just keep above the cut depth

I used a 35mm film can as an adapter for a smaller vacuum hose on the 3018 version made from a foot operated air pump hose. That goes to a Coffee jar/Spray bottle dust collector, then a big long vacuum hose runs out the door to an old house vacuum with the bypass hole open to lower the suction a little. Best add on for these little dust makers and the noise is outside now.

Thank you James for your ongoing videos. Look forward to each new arrival. I just finished designing an almost identical shoe except it attaches via the motor mount bracket. Was taken aback at how similar my design is compared to the genmitsu. Everything magnetic. I do like the clear body as the advantages are obvious. The online price is so good I am not even going to upload my design to thingiverse!

Nice video James! Thanks for the tip on using the shorter bristles! I hope to try it out soon on my Proverxl 4030. I had to adapt it to my dust collector which uses 2.5 inch tubing. For those in the states, the o.d. Is slightly larger than 1 pvc. So, I got a 1 inch rubber coupling, a short piece of 1 inch pvc and a 1to 2 inch bushing that fits dust collector hose nicely

Update... Going from a 2.5 inch hose down to one inch proved to be too much.. The trash can I was using to collect the dust collapsed. I ended up using the original shop vac hose and that worked fine

Okay, I'm sold. Ordered it for my 500W Twotrees TTC450. Now need to figure out what to suck air with. The spindle doesn't make much noise but both the shop vac and HF 1HP dust collector are deafening! Maybe a household vac with a control that turns it on and off with adjustable duty cycle. 🤪 Thanks for another informative video.

I have the original long brush version. The vacuum pulled the inner strands inward and would partially block the airflow, getting further blocked by the dust clogging the strands. I ended up cutting about 12mm off. Much better now. Problem #2 is, none of my vacuum hoses fits the attachment. I have to use duct tape to attach my vacuum hose. I need to 3d print an adaptor.

Hi James, nice to see it in operation. I looked at ordering one a month ago and none available in the Europe outlets. Fortunately, I was in Florida in the middle of march so ordered one to send to a contact there. Carriage from USA was as much as the boot in US $8. Not had time to try it yet but it looks great. They seem to be out of the Europe warehouse again right now .

Works good with short bristles, long bristles clogs up with dust.

I got the Sainsmart dust collector but not with the short brush, only the longer one. That got tangled in my bit and as a result of that my CNC didn't work anymore. I suspected the control unit, replaced that but that didn't fix the problem. It turned out to be the power supply, replaced that and now it's working again. I have cut the brush and shortened it about 10 mm. I think that it's a Sainsmart mistake because the average bits I use are placed right in the spindle. Not happy with this dust collector and I wish I had the short brush as well. I just bought my dust collector 2 weeks ago, I guess Sainsmart first sold out the old supply with just the longer brush..

I am OK with mine but tape the magnetic bits together as I find at times (like at the edge of an adjacent pocket) the magnets do not hold.

about time , your CNC has been a bit untidy recently, specially with your snow blower trick last week! PS. make sure middle section is right way up, very slightly different moulding. Neat tension band on inside, screw doesn't dig in to spindle casing.

great video James, I was wondering do you use a vacuum for dust collection only or do you have a cyclone to a bucket or barrel? I'm new to CNC machining and have watched quite a few videos on everything except dust collection it would be great if you would touch on this subject.
@JamesDeanDesigns
@JamesDeanDesigns Год назад
Thanks. I run a vacuum connected to a cyclone. A cheap £20 cyclone off ebay connected to a plastic drum. I rarely run the vacuum all the time though due to the cost. I'll vacuum up every now and again during the job

Hello James, I have a sainsmart cnc3018 ProVer milling machine and want to control it with estlcam. Do you know if that is possible, and if so what are the estlcam settings for this? Thanks in advance. Greeting Theo from Netherlands

Any good tips for using a dust shoe on a 40mm thick piece of wood?

I have the 65mm dust boot for my XL4030 with a Dewalt router but can't figure out how to get a dust hose connected. Every thing I have found is either too big or too small. Can you tell me what I should use to attach a 4" hose and where I can find it?
@JamesDeanDesigns
@JamesDeanDesigns Год назад
So the dewalt is actually 69mm diameter, so I'm quite surprised a 65mm boot fits. But dust boots have 2 different designs, one for vacuums and one for dust extractors like you have with a large hose. Ideally you should have bought a boot that fits but alternatively you can either try to make an attachment that adjusts the size or see about getting one 3d printed
@AzaB2C
@AzaB2C 2 года назад
Cheers! Anyone have vacuum hose recommendations? Ideally, lightweight hose from dust shoe to stationary location with an adapter for beefy 2" shop vac to attach.

awww... no 65mm version, that's a shame as I was just looking for something like that. I'll hit the Google and see what I can find.

Sadly no, not at the moment. I think they do have a 65mm dust boot but it's a different design

Yeah looks like they have a 69mm. No where near the great price of the 52 you reviewed though and much more basic. Thanks for the great video though, I know what to look out for now.
