IN THIS EPISODE JIMMY GREAVES FINDS OUT HE HAS BEEN CHOSEN AS A CANDIDATE FOR A TIE PERSON OF THE YEAR AWARD, MUCH TO THE AMUSEMENT OF BOTH HIMSELF AND IAN ST JOHN.

I think all of the 90s still gave us 'footy' with pitches that gave us wear & tear & that round thing, the ball which had stayed the same from 1966, then in the noughties pitches became utterly perfect & boring & the ball dynamics became a big ping pong ball, this made the game faster with trick shots two a penny & made tackling virtually extinct. I miss that the most. You might as well watch a video game as that's how it looks now.

There was an episode when the Welsh FA wanted to get hold of a player, possibly Mark Bowen at Norwich, and asked Saint and Greavsie to contact him through the show one Saturday dinner and tell him to get in touch for a call up. No mobiles then. Incredible to think summat like that would happen. Brilliant. Football lost its soul about this time. Saint and Greavsie are both very ill at mo, wish them both well.

Great stuff. Good to see the lower leagues getting a look in, unlike nowadays. Couldn't believe Mike Conroy scoring for Burnley, used to watch him at the start of his career with Clydebank.

He was an absolute goal scoring machine for us that season. I was only 10 at the time but remember it all so well. At a push I'd say that was my favourite time watching Burnley. Used to love going on with my dad and being taken all over the country to watch proper football in the old school grounds.

As great a striker as Jimmy Greaves was and he remains one of the greatest of all time, he was wrong about Hateley, who was a much better player then Greaves gave him credit for. Just because Hateley was a huge physical presence rather than an out and out poacher, he still had an excellent touch, tremendous pace for a 6'3 13st man and was one of the best aerial threat in the history of football.

Ah Yes the Famous "Except in Scotland" when there was a live match in England.... always hated that.... although we did get to see the Famous title decider in 1989 Between Liverpool and Arsenal in Scotland live on ITV and sometimes the 2nd half of a Sunday game during "Scotsport"

I remember watching the Liverpool/arsenal game in the pig & whistle pub in Buchanan street in Glasgow on a Friday night, it was a huge deal. Nowadays live games are 10 a penny, and most of them are crap.

The other main reason why we lost the league that season was funnily enough knocking Leeds out of both cup competitions. The extra games caused tiredness and injuries and although we won the league cup I would have swapped that for the championship

The Best Tv show on Football EVER . RIP MR ST JOHN . GREAT GREAT PUNDITS. only terrible thing about the show it spawned terrible terrible commentators clive the itch tillsdale , matin tywhyler, g newbun, ETCETRA ETCETRA . I make no apologies for the spelling off there awful names
