I have competed in many karate tournaments around the world and on various stages. Never have I been so nervous, yet so excited and honored to do a karate demo in front of thousands of young karatekas and their families from all over South Africa and our SAJKA (South African Japan Karate Association) and Japanese Instructors.
When Tournament Director of SA JKA Sensei Warren Bainton (6th Dan) approached me to prepare a demo for the SA JKA Nationals / Africa Cup I immediately turned to the Gauteng Team and approached certain individuals to make this demo spectacular and a show stopper!
The Demo team consisted of Eugene Oosthuizen (6th Dan), Brad Elin (5th Dan), Bongi Ngwenya (5th Dan), Molefi Lebone (4th Dan), Michiyo Morita (3rd Dan) and James Adam (3rd Dan).
Each one played a key role in pulling off karate with kime, falls with grace, counters with powers and continuation without missing a beat.
Our demo team worked together, breathed together, stressed together and performed together.
Without each individual doing their part and being a shining star to other karatekas, our demo would not have been so successful.
Thank you guys and lady, for trusting me to put together our demo. Thank you for wowing the crowd and showing Ogura Shihan (8th Dan), Okuma Shihan (7th Dan) and Johan La Grange Shihan (7th Dan) what we are made of.
