It was undeed unforunate. Pretty much all of Yokos discography is great though. Aoi Teshima who is singing this also has some great stuff. I just wish we could have kept it on spotify lmao
@@mamegoma That's why I've changed my way to consume music. Discover trough spotify, then download everything you like. Keep a copy on your computer. Moreover, spotify blocks you when you haven't been connected to the internet for a few days. Sucks when you are out in the woods.
Being a jazz musician, I had Kids on the Slope recommended to me by an anime enthusiast respectively. From my background, few jazz vocalists can grab a person's ear like this one. Much love to the composer for this series.
@@jrthedraconicking6493 Which song are you talking about exactly? I don't think I've heard any song of hers being plagiarism. Also, you said she does it a lot then only gave a single, incomplete example. If you're gonna accuse someone, do it properly...
@@jrthedraconicking6493 Woah. just heard the DJ food and at first I was like," Oh, well bass lines and chords are famous okay to use "(Some Skunk Funk and KOF 95 Funky Esaka.), but then the sax part and lyrics came in and I was like "....mmmm that's usually a no no with music." Melody and Lyrics are usually a no go unless it's in some kind of playful reference, remixed format (Robot Chicken or Family Guy can't touch me which note wise is is it's own song still and considered parody), or used in a solo section.
@@VizzedShogunGamer The DJ Food one is a cover (just like On the Run), and DJ Food themselves actually remixed Tank! in the second disc of the Bebop OST.
A lot of people have been complaining about her accent but I find it absolutely charming. I think her L's sound really good! I like this version most of the ones I've heard. Very smooth and classy. Love it!
The vocal performance is great. Her accent making it sound like "That's the kind of magic music we make with our *_ribs_* when we kiss" is... interesting.
Lullaby of birdland, that's what I always hear when you sigh Never in my woodland Could there be words to reveal In a phrase how i feel Have you ever heard two turtle doves Bill and coo when they love That's the kind of magic Music we make with our lips When we kiss And there's a weepy old willow He really knows how to cry That's how i cry in my pillow If you should tell me Farewell and goodbye Lullaby of Birdland whisper low kiss me sweet & we'll go Fliyin' high in Birdland High in the sky up above All because we're in love

True. This take on the song feels more like a lullaby than most other takes, after hearing all of them, even Sarah Vaughan herself- this has to be my favorite rendition of this piece.
Mmm..How should I say? The humming at the beginning is kinda had that heart broken feeling and Rest of it had amazing sad yet beautiful voice that pierced through our heart.
a calm, sweet, melodic jazz music creates a warm, enchanting, & beautiful night atmosphere... how I wish there are more beautiful, heartfelt, & soulful jazz music like this... good night おやすみ なさい ~
***** I FINISHED WATCHING THE WHOLE THING. IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL. THE ENDING KILLED ME, I CRIED SO HARD. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TELLING ME TO WATCH IT. I'd never thought I'd play piano again, but sakamichi no apollon and shigatsu kimi no uso have changed me so much. I never realised just how much I missed playing before I watched them. It was like a part of me was missing. I know this seems silly, but thank you so much for this! I'm just so happy (and sad, because wow, that ending. but mostly happy). Playing again just feels so great. Thank you!!
April Sunshine Haven't really seen it myself but from what i've heard; nodame cantabele is a great one (prob not as good as shigatsu and kids on the slope though
Gia The Sweet Potato I totally understand what you mean, this anime got me back into listening to Jazz. For me Beck! Mongolian Chop Squad, really got me into playing the guitar again way back when.
I loved jazz because I couldn't for the life of me play it (Piano). Now I can and I love it even more... Actually my dad always tells me that when I couldn't sleep as a baby, or when I was upset, he would play me some Louis Armstrong and I would be gone. Seems I was born a jazz nut...
What a sugar-sweet melody. This twist on this song is fantastic! The lyrics are almost whispered here, a super precious take on this song. This version is an instant favorite.
What a beautiful arrangement of this song. This whole ost is stunning - as to be expected from one of the most famous anime composers ever! Check out all of Yoko Kanno's work, it's all lovely.
Such a beautiful version... i met this show through the comment section in one of chet baker's songs. Sorry for my terrible english. I just adore this show and want everyone else to watch it if they habe the chance ~
There's this page in manga when Kaoru's mom was humming this song... I'm an old fart, but that's the only time I've let a tear to a comic. No spoilers, You got to read it.
I re-watched the whole anime for a third time, the past couple days. This arrangement of the song reminds me of the past days of high school, when I'd always complain about every single important thing that I wanted in my life, but was just out of reach. The idea of having a perfect scenario - a long, fulfilling romantic relationship; exciting road trips to new, far off places; or a career doing things I loved doing - those were all things I've dreamt about in high school but was too stupid to achieve at the time. And this song is saying to keep dreaming - you might not have the things you want, but that shouldn't stop you from finding fulfillment at the end. Fittingly, this song starts in C-minor and ends in C-major. There's that little bit of light at the end.
Simply lovely. .... I’m a music teacher in lockdown in midtown Manhattan.... playing a copy of the original... but it’s so lonely so thank you for this.......simply gorgeous. Miss Jenny
i love that vocal. a nice interpretation of this song. makes me think of this girl sitting alone by the window on a cloudy day, waiting for her lover to come back.
I like both the version by Sarah Vaughn and this one. They're both awesome in different ways, I like to think Vaughn's version was more elegant, but this one's very gentle and dreamy feeling. Both are nice though.
When I first listened to this OST I thought there was something missing....then this track came on. Nothing like a good jazz song with breathy, soft vocals; finding out it was Aoi Teshima singing just topped off the cake

All the arrangements of these jazz standards that Yoko made for this anime are amazing, I really like how they sound, from this one with the intro with the guitar to the one from My Favourite Things that mix the original version with the one from John Coltrane
That scene where Richie has this weird goodbye after her mother saying I’m sorry and than crying really got me. It was heartbreaking and I’m glad that he could get some closure especially with this song playing. Shit makes me sad lol
The original version of this song is still paced somewhat calmly, but softening it down to a whisper, giving front stage to the bass and using the piano almost as if it was chimes elevated it much higher, in my opinion.
Yes!!!! Thank you!!!! This is just beautiful; from beginning to end and the unexpected string arrangements are to die for - simply wonderful; I am deeply moved, Thank you.
I love it when people sing songs that aren't from their countries, it adds this spark and emotion into them... Like, my heart's literally skippimg beats right now.
