I dont care about anything else, that guy is an epic militarum tempestus commander! All the game he was shouting made up and actual imperial quotes! Keep on fighting brave servant of the imperium, may the emperor keep you!!!!
made up? You do me a disservice! Those were litanies straight from the imperial infantryman's handbook! ( the black book you see by my army at the start)
one thing I will say about Matt, he is ALWAYS up on his rules and the rules of the army he plays against. Almost EVERY game when he has his opponent explain a rule, he ends up correcting them on something an 9 times out of 10 its something in their favor or something that helps them.
ramming a imperial knight with a leman russ, blowing it up and surviving is one of those beautiful moments that people like me get to experience by throwing the tactics manual in the bin
Great report!! It was a lot of fun seeing a smallish game where it was a little easier to keep track of all the units on the board at the same time despite jump-cuts to different locations. Cool terrain. Also, the Tempestus Matt seemed like a fun opponent with a great attitude. As a Tempestus player myself, I was glad to see these guys go up against power armor (because that really is what they're good at for the otherwise overly high points cost), too bad the cards just stood up and ran away in the Salamanders' favor from the very beginning! Both rules things that jumped out at me (AV12 on the razorbacks, and 11 dudes in the Taurox Prime) were addressed mid-report so good on ya both for paying attention. =)
1: I wish GW would combine the Inquisition, Adepta Sororitas, Militarum Tempestus, Deathwatch, and Officio Assassinorum into a single Inquisition faction. 2: If the Salamanders get their own Codex, they should be using Melta weapons, Flamer weapons, and Thunder Hammers almost exclusively.
+John Whitesell I agree with you partially. Inquisition and Offico Assassinorum - surely. But for example Ordo Xenos have nothing to do with sororitas, and gameplay would require you to field some so as to have battleforged army. As for the Militarum tempestus, it is not part of the Inquisition -it is a separate organisation. You are now talking about only tiny chunk of Militarum Tempestus which are Inquisitorial Stormtroopers. I suppose Deathwatch supplement should be more like Clan Raukaan for Space Marines. In short: These are all diffrent factions not entirely that do not always work toghether and mixing them would break the fluff.
I believe he means if they do get a codex then they would remove all weapon options but those, and even if they buff the hell out of melta, and flamers that still hurts the salamanders.
i discovered yours videos not much time ago (and they were from '13 or '14), and u guys make it look so fun, that now im totally into this... thxs for the videos, sub and keep it coming!
From the BRB: Gets Hot and Re-rolls If a model has the ability to re-roll its rolls To Hit (including because of BS6+ or the Twin-linked special rule), a Wound is only suffered if the To Hit re-roll is also a 1; it may also re-roll Gets Hot results of 1 for weapons that do not roll To Hit. Therefore at ~27:30 you were allowed to reroll that failed gets hot roll.
Just picked up some Tempestus Scions recently, so nice to see some one else play them. They hit like a truck, but can't really take a hit back. Luckily their firepower can make that irrelevant often times. Gotta love the army wide ap3 lol. Feel for the Tempestus guy in this one though he got pretty unlucky, and of course the objectives were just rough. Only strange choice was the command squad jumping out early. GG though.
Man that rocketlauncher that actually fires the misile is so awesome if you guys have a video on how you made that I will sub to vault membership tomorrow ;d
As far as the FAQ is concerned, it makes ALOT of sense for the drop pod's doors to count as part of the foot print, think if they where really used then they would be all deployed ( perhaps ruling that at least 1 door has to be open is better) from a lore perspective and from a gaming perspective they make sense, they are better than just dropping in via grav chutes ect
I think if the doors count, they should be required to open. because each section of the pod is 2 marines that cant access the other sections. but that would make drop pods colossal, and from a gaming perspective ignoring the doors for all intents and purposes is just easier.
Would of liked to see the Scions making use of their Deep Striking, and the fact that they're better in five man squads. As long as everyone had fun, though, that's what matters!
Not sure if it was already stated, but the Tempestor Prime (HQ model with jacket) only has 2 wounds. The IG/AM Company Commander has 3 wounds which may be where the confusion came from.
Regarding the sideways movement at 04:32, I think he's right in that this is fine, although I've been told on a number of occasions that sideways movement is illegal. But I can't find a rule that says it is. There is a rule that says vehicles cannot turn (e.g. move in an arc), which implies that only straight lines (and pivots ) are legal movements, however it does not say that moving sideways in a straight line is illegal. TL;DR I think you did this correctly but I don't understand why it's controversial.
Well the rules only say that no part of the model may move further than the intended speed (6" combat speed, 12" Cruising speed etc) It is however immersion breaking for vehicles driving sideways. But to be fair if you do; pivot, move, pivot the overall effect is the same
A really tight battle, I think with the Tempestus you don't have a variety of units. Don't get me wrong they can ball and the hot-shot volley gun was awesome and I think he could've won if the objectives favored him more.
On a scale of 1 to John A MacDonald, how Canadian are you Matt? What is your stance on drinking maple syrup straight from the tree? Do you ever break out hockey skates in the office during winter?
I like maple syrup, but I wouldn't drink it out of a tree. I don't actually skate very well, but I don't mind watching hockey, but I don't. So I guess a 3? Eh?
SUPER minor thing, and it may be just me, but if your going to turn over a dread when it's destroyed i would recommend painting the underside of the base black... just a small peeve of mine...
I just use the white fluffy wool stuff to make the dread look like a smoking wreck still stood on its legs. No ugly undersides of bases and no paint scratching!
Not a critique, just a simple inquiry...Why does the Command squad look out sir on a 4+ when thay was his warlord? Is the Warlord not an independent character for tempestus?
Oh sure, because disembarking the command squad, not even firing, and getting dropped on by flamers is just bad luck. It was a gambit to use the Hot-shot Volleyguns at 4 shots that failed. Hindsight is 20/20, but still, I'd say it was a combo of tactics and luck which snuffed him.
I'm sofa king lazy yeah, but also failing nearly all leadership checks and initial roll offs, many misses and stupid objectives. Good plan, but Emperor didnt protect Tempestuses((
Matthew Haggy It's okay. I once disembarked a Guard Command Squad in front of an Ork horde. I survived that one by quickly embarking back but I lost anyways. Hoped not to sound harsh but yeah not the wisest idea if there's a way for the foe to reach out and touch you fast and furiously.
I know that this is a friendly game, but i think that if you forgot to do actions in their supposed sequence then yiu are not supposed to do it later. This is an important part of the game.

New terrain looks like it belongs in an aquarium. Not that that's a bad thing, it is very colorful and alien-y looking, but is it aquarium accessories?
lol, when i started the exact thing happened to me. i watched the tutorial series of 7th edition that MWG did a while back and guided myself with that! couldnt decide on which army to get either, so i just learned all the codexes in the game as i constantly changed my mind
is it just me or anyone else find mwg videos don't stream very well.... even on 360p its still choppy and don't have the problem watching anything else it also happen when i watch on their website
Tempestor primes only have 2 wounds so that command squad was dead a whole wound earlier. Shoulda stayed in the taurox. Tis why most people who play tempestus scions use a lord commissar as their HQ rather than the command squad(Who are there to just issue orders really.)
The Lord Commissar is only -really- good if he buffs up blobs of infantry. He's still decent without, however the command squad is utterly vital. If they didn't get offed as they did, sniper rules, tank-hunter, and twin-linked for more than one round would have made quite the difference. (Not to mention 4 volley guns.)
They were removed due to Overrun rule in the Core rulebook (Space Marines don't get Overrun due to 'And They Shall Know No Fear' special rule). But pretty much all other armies, in one way or another, still have to abide by this rule. It works like this: 'If you lose a Close Combat and fail your Moral test, both players roll a D6 and add the Initiative value of each involved unit. If the defeated unit rolls higher, the unit may flee away from the combat 2D6 inches. But if the winner rolls equal or higher on the roll-off; then the defeated unit is removed as a casualty with no saves of any kind allowed (even Independent Characters that have joined them are removed). The winning unit may then move D6 inches in any direction after the enemy unit has been removed from the board)'. Hoped that cleared it all up :)
ok i LOVE painting these miniatures but have never played the game, i more like grid based strategy games, just feels more accurate for me but some of these battle reports ive notived you group entire squads in these little rectangles and move them as a single unit. is this the medevil fantasy warhammer game? i ask because i think i could really get into that style of warhammer.
If you want to get into that kind of play style, there is an unofficial follow-up by the community called the 9th age, where you still can play with the regiments like in the 8th edition of warhammer fantasy battle
I must also vouch for 9th age, it is awesome work. And if you are willing to embrace it completely, (some die hard fantasy fans may find alot to complain about with it) you'll have a blast playing the game GW should have made! :)
Musabre i know there is a TON of warhammer lore and a lot of die hard fans and i really know very little of it although lately ive been having a blast with the pc games battle fleet gothic and total warhammer and in fact as a huge total war fan imo total warhammer is the best in the series by far. but yeah im just trying to say the lore is cool and everything but if the game play is solid thats all i give a damn about ya know? like i said earlier ive always enjoyed the miniatures and art atyle of all warhammer be it fantasy or more futuristic but as far as my war boradgaming goes i just need the more accurate grid style play but this 8th and 9th age stuff you guys are talking about sounds like a perfect hybrid of the two styles of war gaming. really the main thing holding me back is i live in a small midwest town, we have no game hobby shops or anything like that and none of my friends are into war gaming at all so if i invest in this ill basically have this cool army with no one to fight unless i make a road trip or something. actually as a long time lover of war gaming both on board and in pc form i would love for somebody to give us a really TRUE pc adaption of the warhammer table game because for me at least its the only realistic way i could play vs other humans on a regular basis and the warhammer lore itself is just so fucking badass. like i said im actually new to a lot of the lore and especially the story in battle fleet gothic just makes me want more. i'm literally frothing at the mouth for a game like this at this point and im surprised there isnt more people like me in the warhammer community asking for the same? is it more you guys just want it to remain a table game? lastly i just want to say please dont get me wrong, like i said total warhammer is an AMAZING game and its bringing the world of warhammer to people who never experienced it before but its not even close to the actual table game.
Just a question, If they somehow made that drop pod footprint official (I don't think it will some people at GW do have a brain) why wouldn't you adopt it? I understand that you don't like it but aren't supposed to play by the rules? You can't just dissmiss rules just because you don't like them.
I'll probably make a video addressing that, but it's not that I just don't like it (which I don't), it actually doesn't make sense, and requires house rules to work. For example, do you have to declare how your doors are before you deep strike, or can you change them after? What if you scatter 12" the wrong way, can you just drop a door back the way you came from to get closer? If you need a house rule to make an FAQ make sense, then the FAQ doesn't make sense.
+miniwargaming Thank you for this reaction, just to clearify, I don't dislike you houseruling this because it's kinda redundant I just wanted to know your point of view.
In the case of Imperial Guard/Militarum Tempestus command squads the Commander (Tempestus Prime in this case) do not have the Independent character special rule which is what would normally give them the 2+ look out sir. They are only "regular" characters so only get a 4+ LOS
Ah, thanks for the clarification on that. Good to know. The poor warlord. :( In the battle, even if he had a 2+ Look Out.. he was a deadman anyway, by all the save fails.
Yeah, Imperial Guard have it rough in that manner, not only are their commanders easily instant deathed, they are stuck in 5 man units (with the only way to increase the size being expensive specialists) that have barely any survivability.
Hi miniwargaming dudes, just interested if you guys are willing to do a death match to see who is the best 40k player at your miniwargaming company. 2000 pts round robin playoff and the winner gets the glory, maybe a cool idea to do every month :). P.s come down to Australia and we'll teach you how to play lol
Adrian Hall what result? we play tomorrow night at 7 pm :) I can't wait! I look forward to the Brumbies playing mistake free rugby, not giving away intercept tries in low scoring matches and excellent, even handed refereeing! also De Nile is a river in Egypt. Always next year I suppose.
Is it legal to combat squad tac squads while they are in a transport? That seems slightly off to me - I thought when you combat squad, the different squads count as different units, and non-super heavy transports can't carry more than one unit. But, I'm not a SM expert, though I've been playing for a while and personally never seen this done. Is it kosher? can you do the same thing with rhinos?
I don´t know how they houserule it, but you have to announce your combat squads before you roll for warlord traits. And Combat Squads are one exception to the rule that a transport only can carry one unit. But you only can carry 2 Combat Squads if they are original the same unit.
yes he did, and land speeder storms are open topped. but in this case it was a regular land speeders and they are listed as (fast, skimmer) in their unit entry, not opentopped
i have a gaming group in ohio, anytime i see someone that might live close, i always ask. i live in martins ferry and sadly it isn't close, if you were to take 70 east, its about 2 hours 20 mins one way, but if your ever in the neighborhood, look me up.
Is that right? I'll keep that in mind! If you ever wanna contact me, try my steam "Lord Commissar Matthew", if you want anything else to contact me by, let me know in some less public means.
steam works, i play a guard player in zainesville sometimes and my brother lives near reynoldsburgh (not sure if thats how its spelled thou) so you never know.
Quick question: why do we not see very much 30k compared to everything else? 30k is my favourite thing on miniwargaming and at first it was like every week and now we see one or two 30k videos per month :(. Also, when will we be seeing the warhound Titan in a game?
Not many players come to them to play it and they dont get many views so whenever they make 30k they will likely have to use two miniwargamers which would be a waste of resources and money. The unfortunate truth is that not enough people watch it to be worth it for them.
It's hard to find players, but it's definitely popular with the viewers, which is why we've been recording a lot more. You'll be seeing a lot more 30k going forward.
