I love seeing Tyranids on the table. And this game was so nicely matched, back and forth, not a runaway victory for any side. I'd call this an outstanding battle report.
Remember he chose ultramarines knowing full well everyone would hate him for no reason playing them ;) Honestly, i dont get the hate, theyre badass space romans with cool as hell blue armour, if youre complaining about the whole "follow the codex too much" remember how that almost got them killed, multiple times, and that theyre a bit looser with that whole shtick now Cassius gave them a good all round hiding and told them to get off their high horse and fight nids
Meta 275 I've never liked the colour scheme nor the "poster boy" image behind the Ultramarines, the fluff is bad, Rowboat Girlyman is the most boring of the Primarchs, and I remember the writings of Matt Ward. Power to all the Ultramarines fans out there; do it if it makes you happy, but in my opinion they are about the least interesting chapter going. On the tabletop, I'd much rather paint a different chapter and use "counts-as" for formations and characters and the like.
Brad Simpson fair nuff, I play them and paint them as I enjoy painting blue, saw them as a neat conversion choice using Tyranid parts, and like the whole squad markings and transfers and such. Also I love using Cassius in my games and the upgrade kit looks awesome. plus ultramarines exclusive models like suzerains and the herald model that just came out (headswapped + plasma pistol and it's sicarius now) are really cool imo and it's nice to have them come with all the heraldry :P
After Leland left, nobody has really played grey knights or sisters of battle (they must have been Leland's personal models). I miss them too. I know Steve played guard for a very brief time, and I want to see a lot more guard on the channel. That would be really swell.
Yeah, the rest of that match goes totally crazy like 10 mins later but in that 1st 30 or so it's like a cartoonish tragedy XD. Man do nids need some love here soon.
Matt, at about 41:30 your "pod" comes in, and I thought that you would be obligated to correct the shortest distance to avoid the mishap, not just land where you wanted because you scattered onto his unit. Maybe I'm over thinking it but the way you reacted to having a "perfect" landing made it seem more suspect.
Despite trying to even up his overwhelming force advantage with the worst placement and target priority possible he still stumbles to an accidental win. Glory to the Emperor. For the few marines that made their shame faced way home.
nice to see a tough marine list. a little hint though for the skyhammer drop pods would be to take a locator beacon for 10 points so the assault squads then do not scatter as long as the first model is placed within 6 inches of the drop pod
keeefy11 that doesn't work - the locator beacon needs to be on the table at the start of the turn to stop scatter, and a deep-striking drop pod is not on the table at the start of the turn...
Well, if you want to go super cheese, then just use the Optimized Stealth Cadre to counter everything. However, a more "normal" way to do it would be to put down a lot of Interceptor, or to just hold a lot of your army in Deep Strike reserve using battlesuits.
Just picked up 2 squads of zoanthopes/neurothropes. How do you like running them? Also can someone explain how he infiltrated before game start? I'm somewhat new to the game
miniwargaming ok thanks. Ihave tiny squad of ultramarines but deathwatch is more of my style so i thougth i could still use the older ones becaus both are still space marines
I feel you Matt, at my local gaming score a few weeks ago my (very uncompetitive Tau were massacred by a Skyhammer Annihilation Force accompanied by a bunch of Terminators. An alpha strike and a beta strike...
Yep, 'Instinctive Fire' states that it has to happen at the end of the shooting phase, before morale checks are taken.. would have made some small difference. Otherwise on of the best battreps i've seen..
this is the first time I've seen nids played in aaaaaaaages, I can't believe that the tyranocyte guns have to be treated as hull mounted, it's a monstrous creature with 360 firing arc for all weapons, seems like an FAQ that doesn't make much sense in regards to the monstrous creatures rule.
26:04 - When a zoranthrope brood casts warp blast, do they not cast it only once? I thought that's how brotherhood of psykers works. It doesn't seem correct that every brotherhood of psyker gets to use the witchfire individually. For example, if every single pink horror got to cast flickering fire of tzeench, or every purifier got to cast cleansing flame, it would be a little stupid. For zoranthropes have a rule that lets them each cast warp blast? Edit: I remembered I have a copy of the nid codex available, and the answer is yes! It is called psychic brood. My mistake.
Infiltrators are only prohibited from charging on the 1st player turn. the Genestealer could have changed the landspeeder. The Warriors could have charged the devastators as well. It is scout moves that prevent charges on the 1st game turn.
DZ Sabre both scout and infiltrate stop first turn chages, it is just worded differently. Infiltrators “cannot charge in their first turn”, and scouts cannot charge in the first game turn.
Graeme Bragg. I went back and reread both rules again. I noticed that the Infiltrator rule does state "their first turn" so thank you for correcting me. I have been misreading it as "the first turn" and I have seen many players in batreps make this same mistake. I will make sure to include this correction on my next channel update. Again, thanks for pointing it out.
Anyone else a little annoyed Jason didn't get his assault marines into combat the turn they arrived?! Wasn't that the whole point of taking the Skyhammer formation, why bother beefing up the unit with extra marines and the flamer if you were going to use them as objective holders.
Hey Matt, just a question: wasn't one of the tyranids psykers supposed to take a wound. When I follow the tape, you're taken down to 1 wound by the Ultramarines, then a wound should have been lost from the Perils. Perhaps I've missed something as I've no experience with Tyranids. I'm about a half hour in at time of writing, really enjoying the Batrep 😊
Also sir, it states specifically in perils that The character has to take the wound during random allocation, so the neurothrope would eat it no matter what :(
Good game, but I don't like the way matt seems to control the way the other person plays. Also, why weren't the assault marines who were wiped out by warp blast allowed a night fighting save? Could have gone to ground for 5+
+miniwargaming it feels like sometimes (to me) when you narrate the game you give options or scenarios of what could happen in the game. Often, there are other options or combinations of options available that could work better, but it feels like you steer the way the game is working out sometimes. Sorry if I'm wrong.
Guess I'm too late for "Rules you got wrong", but nowadays, devastators are no longer relentless while under the influence of dev-doctrine... and damn those thunderfire cannons hurt... poor 'thropes EDIT: *facepalm* it's alright, skyhammer... ~_~ no rule violation here. Have a nice day.
great game really enjoyed this one, 1:10 instinctive fire is that still a thing? FAQ?! And zoanthrobes, LVL 2 psyker doing 3 powers? i haven't seen these FAQs, this is just what I know from watching Matthews thoughts.
you should choose which army draws your personal taste the most, I chose Militarum Tempestus for example, they remind me alot of the odst's from halo! you will not regret choosing the one you like the most
tyranids dont seem to be a good army, they lose ALOT of the time. They look awesome but dont seem to be too competitive. im new to the game and i choose to play tyranids and when i play my wife lol her tau kick my butt almost every game. im thinking of switching to something else. Any advice on tyranids would help. im using 2 wing h.tyrants twin.L dev. 2 harpies 2 groups of 3 zoanthropes 40 termagants 1 tervigon 3 warriors. Any help would help lol thanks
The game is currently in 7th (Or maybe even 8th) edition. Tyranids (I play Nids) still have a 6th Edition Codex...we are indeed a underdog army. Against top tier armies, like Tau, Necrons or Eldar we almost stand NO chance. Maybe try using a Mawloc to pop up straight into their lines, and use formations...Endless Swarm, Skyblight Swarm etc...
Wiped the floor against tau, 20 gargoyles I used as a distraction which let me gaunts get forward, my flyrant came in from reserves and destroyed his transports. My mawlocs died the turn they popped up but that again allowed another turn for my melee to get into charge range where I tore tau apart as they are one of the worst melee armies.
I haven't played since 5th ed, but back in the day, I found that the best route for Nids is to swarm. Go cheap on everything and just bog the enemy down with sheer weight of numbers! Bare bones on everything, and just pray that mountains of dice will swamp all those 3+ saves...
Initiative check of 1 at minute 12:40 is a fail! You always fail on a 1, or succeed on a 6 on Characteristic Tests other than Leadership! Otherwise why would you roll if you have init 6? or higher?
This Jason, has he challenged Matt or someone before? I somehow remember his facepalm. BTW, I did faced that Skyhammer shit, twice, with a Gallant Lance and a 60 scouts.
// when matt plays tyranids / there is plenty of cover }}} when tau are played cover is sparse in the centre of the table /// when building the table > is it a joint process? and yes us Australians' take care of all before ourselves >>> all best
I don't know if the rules you play in the states are different to the UK or perhaps the camera is deceiving; but it appears that you are using spirit leech from Zoanthropes rather than the Neurothrope. It is the Neurothropes ability and so it is that character who must have range and line of sight. Also, I believe I noticed you randomly allocate the Perils wound- wounds caused by perils MUST be allocated to a character if the brood has one. In a different game I saw you shoot 15 tyrannocyte shots at one target but that was rectified in this game. Again, it may be the camera angle but spore cloud affects individual models, NOT the unit. I really really like how chill your game is and no arguments or tantrums. But it appears that Matt dominates the game intentionally or otherwise, I would like to see more conversation personally. I'm not sure how often you play Tyranids, perhaps it's as simple as rules oversight, I could possibly be wrong myself- if I am then I apologise a thousand times. If I am right, then let's hope you can take criticism on the chin. Overall it was a successful game as I admire that. Nobody wants to be.... 'that guy'!
Also, you are right in that the Spore Cloud only gives Shrouded to models, however, the Shrouded special rule states that if one model in the unit has it, they all do.
