We didn’t let him go tho? The dude got Tommy John, you can see him in the dugout during games talking with everyone. He’ll be back probably a little after the all-star break
Only Boston can do this. The bp is among the worst in mlb, a perennial guarantee. Dombrowski the dumbo I'm sure is proud of his handy work. Get a real closer and at least 2 pitchers for the bp! A starter couldn't hurt, a lot of inconsistency there.
So let let your star pitcher in the beginning of the season go way beyond his career pitch count and risk injury for what? If he need 1 or 2 I would say yes but he needed 4. You don't take that chance.
Because winning is more important than records. He already had 107 pitches with 2 innings left. You're gonna mess a guy's arm up over a record he probably wouldn't have gotten? You have a closer for a reason. Yea they lost but the right decision was made. If he was pitching a no hitter it would be a different story
Even though they lost i still think Corra made the right decision. Sale already threw over 100 pitches and Sale is known for wearing down as the season goes. The red sox need to perserve him as much as possible so he can be dominant down the stretch.
Randy Johnson twice, Steve Carlton, and Bob Feller....HOF pitchers that struck out more than 17 in a game but the team lost. Pedro struck out 17 in a 2000 game but lost 1-0
@@urnangaey7239 that wasn't even his worse loss Pedro pitched a perfect game against the Padres and they lost in extras I watched the game only Gwynn and maybe two other guys got the ball to the outfield Pedro was so nasty
And team loses and overall pitching had 24 K’s as well as losing but can’t predict baseball folks. And also I’ll give Chris Sale credit of his Historic performance.
Should've left him in to possibly make baseball history for most strikeouts. Fuck a pitch count sometimes, let him get some extra rest instead. I'm ashamed
ya know i would like to say they should've left him in. the sox were going nowhere last year and the guy had K'd 17/21. Let him see if he can get 20. He had a chance to get 23.. Even 21 would've been an all-time record and for a team not going anywhere.. There is no justifying it and it is the same as when dave roberts pulled Rich Hill out of a perfect game. There is no justifying it and it isn't for the betterment of the team and.. since I was a pitcher, I can tell you pitch count doesn't matter as far as 100 pitches being a limit like a time bomb where the team rushes to get the guy out of the game. Especially when we are talking about starters who get 4-5 days rest sometimes 6 days between starts. I'll let you in on a secret, starters don't just flop and break down after 100 pitches. Especially when you are feeling as good as he must have to strikeout 17.. Pitchers could easily go 130 pitches but teams don't let them because they think that those extra 30 pitches will cause injury when that isn't the case. And in a game like this, I'd be begging the manager to let me go until I finish. My point is this, 100 pitches is on the safe side. So if a guy is having a great game, you let him go because it isn't going to effect recovery for the next start and it isn't going to effect them later in the season.. Now, obviously it isn't okay to do that every game but some games call for it, and the odds of it causing an injury or effecting a pitcher later in the season is slim to none. You see pitchers go 120+ pitches in the postseason and then come back on short rest to do it again and, no problems..
You have some good points my dude but a lot of those pitchers who were work horses have terrible back end career numbers with arm problems because there arms were overused.
@@jasonmatteson2721 lol played baseball for 15 years my dude. You're an idiot if you believe pitch count matters for a single game...or to think the magical "100" pitch mark is nothing but an arbitrary number. Poor mechanics, insufficient rest and pitching when fatigued. Sale was still hitting 94mph that last inning. How often does a pitcher get the chance to hit 20 k's in a game? If he's feeling good...let the guy pitch.
AK K even if he was feeling good I’d still worry about his arm Sale is very injury prone, and this early in the season that’s not what he or his team needs
