bolstered by the offense of Miguel Cabrera, Tori Hunter, Prince Fielder, Victor Martinez, and Delmon Young, and Austin Jackson it's baffling that they had no victory in the one they had played with San Francisco
yeah there was a time when JV, Max, Clay, Doc and Chris would all go deep into games because their managers knew that they were on fire whether it was a shutout or not. remember Doc? that dude was surgical i swear he toyed with batters just for fun
Steven Kunzer Yeah once pitchers like Matt Cain, Cliff Lee, Wainwright, Halliday and such disappeared, it was kind of the end of it. Verlander and Max Scherzer kind of feel like old relics of a long Yeah once pictures like Matt Cain, Cliff Lee, Wainwright, Halliday and such disappeared, it was kind of the end of it. Verlander and Max Scherzer kind of feel like relics of a lost game
chewyismycopilot And you didn’t even mention the beautiful little secret of his success: since the ace he “usurped” the spotlight from is as happy to be out of it as he enjoys being in it, the Scherzer signing is the best thing that ever happened to Strasburg.
Purveyor 2389 we should have dumped Verlander earlier someone would have picked him up. No let's wait and pay him for 3 more years just to dump him for a couple of draft picks
Ninja Spider-Man-This! Scott Boras is a fucking Douchebag who ruins players reputations due to the ridiculous contracts he gets them from teams. Then they hardly ever live up to them, and the players end up being loathed. Fucking dude is trash. At least in the NFL we can see a players worth and market. In baseball? They are so overpaid it is ridiculous. NBA is going that direction also.
Scherzer is the closest protege to the big unit Randy Johnson. Longevity, intensity, intimidating presence and a savage fastball won him 3 cy youngs, a World Series ring and the HOF
1:52 at this point Max had 8 strikeouts. The other day when DeGrom was pitching he did too at the end of the 3rd inning before he got pulled out bc of a shoulder problem. Man I wish he finished that game, he would’ve been up here with Scherzer for a high strikeout game
Even as an Astros fan who had to watch this guy play a part in beating us this year, I’m glad that he finally got a ring. If there’s anyone in baseball who deserved one it was him.
@@bconni2 I don't like the Dodgers anyway but I never really had a problem with Kershaw but with him it was less of a 'Glad you got it' and more of a "Finally, now those stale memes can go away." He's the only guy on that Dodgers squad I'm happy for, the rest of them can piss off particularly Justin Turner for almost infecting his teammates with COVID.
a lot of guys are doing that now. late movement on a 95+ fastball isn't that uncommon. but to compliment it with a nasty slider and changeup is a different story.
@Jon Levi its the nights pitchers dream of. Where they're on fire from the beginning and are basically on strikeout cruise control and their momentum melts batters for innings
I love the way max changes speeds on his fastball. When he starts he’s at 93. When he’s at 100+ he’s hitting 97-100mph. Him and verlander both do it but max really brings the juice late.
Lucas S aww don’t make me do that. Let’s see. I’m gonna have to go with max because his fastballs and break pitches have more movement. I feel like max can play through and hide pain like no pitcher I’ve ever seen. It’s almost like pain angers him and makes him even better. He had a 10 k long outing with a broken nose and black eye! This man had a 16k shutout and follows it with a no hitter that should’ve been a perfect game if not for bad umpiring. Then he beats Houston’s signStealing in game one and game seven of the World Series I couldn’t never hate Justin though. I actually wished he was a nat with max so he wouldn’t have had to suffer another playoff disappointment.
TheDCGuitar13 I mean we don’t know if they stole signs in 2019 but I’m mad they did too I have completely lost respect for all there hitter but verlander and Cole are still good
Lucas S oh we definitely know. Check out the home games In the word series where you heard a whistle before homeruns or doubles in every home game. Problem is max and Stephen were too damn good. Stephen even said he tipped pitches to gauge them and switched up on them after the second inning in his legendary game 6. It really upsets me because I had immense respect for the Astros and admired them from afar. They were more than good enough to win. Look at what they did in dc without the cameras. That stench may never leave em at this point.
Does anyone know if Scherzer is the 3rd or the 4th person to do 20 K in one game. 1. Roger Clements 2. Kerry Wood 1998 3. Randy Johnson??????? -- I think there was a game where Randy did 20, but it may have been 10 innings he pitched.
Hes the 3rd pitcher to do it but its been done 4 times. Clemens did it twice. Woods 20 ks were the most impressive by far. Against a good Astros team. They were having trouble just making contact and the 2 feeble hits barely made it out of the infield
Johnson struck out 20 in 9 innings but the game went to extras tied at 1. So it's on a different list. (His D'Backs won in 11.) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_single-game_strikeout_leaders
This is more impressive than Kerry Wood's 20K game, only for the fact that the strike zone for Kerry Wood was way bigger. The strike zone has shrunk considerably since Woody's.
TheDCGuitar13 Max didn’t blow it, he was playing off 3 days rest. That won’t happen again now that we have Corbin. With 3 aces we can give real rest in the playoffs to Max.
Colt The GOAT we’ve always had 3-5 aces. What we’ve never had since clippard blew it vs St. Louis is relief pitching. Always been the kryptonite that is never addressed
TheDCGuitar13 same thing with the tigers. We would have probably made to the World Series in 2013 and atleast won 2 games in 2012 if we actually had a decent bullpen.
I wish the St Louis Cardinals had taken him. It would have been real freaking easy. He's a Cards hometown boy and was vocal about wanting to pitch for them. Cards loss all the way.
