Answer - If a custom field is set as an external ID, we an only convert it to text or number or Email. For any other type of conversion, external ID behaviour will be removed.

Text, Number,autonumber and email fields can be marked as external Id. A field with external id marked, can be changed to some limited data types, But to maintain its behaviour of external id it can only be converted to autonumber,text,email and number data type. Is it right?
