Salford born and bred and proud of it. Lived here all my life and will never move. Sadly tho it is no longer the Salford we Salfordians know and love. Dis-respect, no loyalty and a total lack of morals has dragged, MY..... YOUR..... OUR..... Dirty ole Town, down to the same level as its neighbour (manchester)!! So sad to see!! Still, I Love my town and Still, i'm proud.....!
I`m Salford born and bred but now live on the Cardigan Bay Wales, love little Welsh villages with plenty of good old fashioned values and the sense of community spirit and help your neighbour - bit like Salford by the Sea in that respect..Still have my family in Salford though and still go to stay whenever possible. The older Salfordians still keep the spirit of the place but, yes, sadly it is changing and not for the better. Still home to me though and always will be.
Never heard that 1 before, its true Salford never did let you down. I wish i could go back to those days, where you did'nt have much- but you were still happy with what you had.
45 West Dixon St , Salford 5.........Now 59 Gardendale Crescent , Hillary , Durban , South Africa.....The memories never leave you......there is a saying in Zulu...translated..." My body has grown old but my heart has remained behind"......thank you Salford.
Pease note I say it is a cover..I have been singing it for 2O years. Would love Klive to have a copy of the Radio Programme which explains the story and the song...
I had a vinyl single of this by I think Clive James around the end of the 80's and lent it someone never to be return. Almost identical and if it remember had a black and white sleeve with picture of lower broughton terrace houses.
Sorry I lost contact with Klive after he came to home in Claremont road Salford many years ago..we recorded the Salford Song in My little attic studio..Mid 70'S I GUESS A FEW WEEKS AGO I ASKED ON RADIO Salford IF ANYONE KNEW WHERE KLIVE WAS THEN I PLAYED THE RECORDING WE DID ON THAT DAY...
Great times were had then. Yes there was a great community spirit but times have to change...this time tho, to much was taken to quickly and I could never take my children to the house were I lived as a child.
I photographed Clive for the sleeve. He was sponsored by Whitbreads and their was a " launch for the song at the Talk of the North in Patricroft, Eccles. I was the staff photographer for the original Salford City Reporter, but this photograph was taken privately for Whitbreads. No, I don' have the neg. any more!
I originally recorded this in my house in Claremont Road around 1980. Klive the Originator of the song also recorded the song in my studio at Claremont road. Klive James composer.
