Wonderful discussion. Two aspects caught my attention which has made me realise that unknowingly(without knowing it was his creation) I had been liking his compositions since childhood which means his songs impacted kids psyche as well and two about the chorus. Whatever amount of music I had listened to in my life ( indian film music) as of date I have not found anyone using it to as a parallel effect- so effective that it stands out. I understood what is chorus singing through Salil Chowdhury’s music. And you so vividly explained on its various usages. May be Salil da has made fewer music than his other contemporary greats but his music stands out which can make your tears roll down or put you in ecstasy or even make you dance or even can politically & socially motivate. Such was his power and huge ocean of musical depth. Thanks again for this interesting discussion.
Pawanji, you are absolutely right. He was an active member of IPTA and his participation in the group with lively music through which people used to get inspire against the British Emperor. For your kind information the song " Kono ek gayer bondhu" composed by him and sung by Hemantkumar had to be orchestrationised by Hemantada as he was in disguise because of chasing by British Police. He was simply a genius.Lataji used to pay him respect like anything.
