Three of my favourites - Come and See, A Matter of Life and Death, and La Strada - so I guess I'll have to give the other ones a shot.

@@darnbricks You've got good taste! I haven't seen A Matter Of Life & Death but the other two are among my all-time favorites (and the Powell & Pressburger I have seen are all masterful)... I'll have to check the rest out! I actually have seen the first film of the Apu Trilogy - you can't go wrong with Ray.

I found 'Orlando' disappointing--rich in ideas, and with considerable visual flair, but somehow feeling half-baked overall. I haven't read Woolf's original novel, incidentally. I did very much appreciate Potter's later 2004 feature 'Yes', filmed with dialogue entirely in iambic pentameter. I regard 'Yes' as one of the great motion pictures of the twenty-first century (so far).

Larisa Shepitko is one of my favorite filmmakers (and Elem’s late wife) and her way too short life and body of work made come and see happen. Without her films, especially, “The Ascent,” Come and See would have never been made.

I adored Arnold's film Red Road. Fish Tank was in my opion major letdown and disappointment. I may need to see it again.

Right but La Strada wasn't about nostalgia or sentiment, it was about life's worth and the value we get from it. I mean, that's what drunk me thinks.

Although it’s not on region b it is region free and you can usually get a decent price off of Amazon- got mine for only a little over regular criterion price

I absolutely detest know it alls who think their opinion equates to fact. As the first respondent has said, it's an anti-war film. If you can't even comprehend what it symbolises, that pretty much sums up how people should view your opinion. That said, it's pretty preposterous of anyone to suggest a given film in any genre is the greatest as no-one will ever live long enough to see every film in any given genre, so you can equally take Sally Potter's opinion with a pinch of salt, as good a film Come and See may be.
