I had coffee with her that year (in '92) when she still had a place in SW London. She'd flown down from her parents' castle in Scotland for interview - tho' not literally... She was very generous-spirited, not fierce at all, and gave me a big hug as we parted.
Tilda Swinton deserved the oscar for this role. Orlando is so complex and difficult to interpret and portray, so Potter and Tilda had a great challenge in froint of them filming this movie. The double nature was absolutelly interesting and genuine.
Watched Orlando today ... it's probably more relevant than the day it was released .. remarkably prescient and beautiful to look at .. people will be studying it for generations to come
Loved this movie and Tilda is wonderful. I flew with her and her Partner recently and he was nice enough to retrieve my luggage. I had already met her in Paris, always so cool and relaxed.
I lost interest watching movies many years ago; however, anything Tilda Swinton is in I will watch. I find every scene she's in is beautiful and brilliant.
Damn, just rewatched Orlando yesterday and it's really fascinating how timeless that movie feels. Like, not just in thematically as it's kinda about that, but aside from the last 5 minutes that kinda date it, it just doesn't feel like a movie from 1992. Tilda Swinton is right about how the market has changed though, so it probably couldn't be done today ... but it still feels like it could've been done at any point from like 1975 to present day. Anyway, really enjoyed this interview too, great insights of the film industry of the last 30 years.
The day I stop loving Tilda Swinton is the day before my funeral. I wrote this semi-autobiographical story recently, because I didn't realize how many times I had seen Tilda Swinton until after I watched her in Only Lovers Left Alive. When I looked through her filmography, I remembered how each movie I had seen with her in the cast, when I didn't know her name yet, was like a different chapter in my late teens, right up to my thirties. After seeing Only Lovers Left Alive, someone told me about Orlando. Orlando is the first movie I sought out specifically because she was in it and in my mind, that was when I truly discovered her, if that makes sense. So it was interesting to hear in this interview how you also discovered Tilda Swinton through Orlando.
I saw this Movie when I was a Kid, (Tilda Swinton might have been the first Woman I ever saw in the Nude, heheheh,) but I had completely forgotten about it and awhile ago I randomly thought about the Scene where Orlando was running across the Ice while it was breaking apart and I was like, "What is that Movie??" It took me awhile to figure out what Movie it was and even longer to actually find it, but I did rewatch it and it is a Great Movie.
Orlando is my favourite film. I said for years that my core self isn't tied to a gender.This film articulated it in a way I never could. At our core we're all human beings who want love, to do something interesting, to have a decent sense of self. we spend so much arguing the differences, we forget what qualities we all share.
its 2019 now and this movie is even "fresher". its crazy to think that the movie could become more relevant. like she said, maybe the industry has indeed gone backwards.

I can see her conflict with England, it’s so similar to mine with america. She’s Scottish first and foremost, I’m Bulgarian first and foremost. She likes to challenge gender roles as well, and I’m that way as well, not at the same level, but it helps me better understand myself and the people around me. Both feminine and masculine energies.
Orlando is one of my favourite movies specially because Tilads amazing performance. But she said how crazy it is that BBC gave them the money for production... well it's not crazy when you make a movie full of Mesonic symbolism. Every corporation will be happy :)
