The sockeye salmon have shown up on the Kenai River and I’m down staying in the back of my truck, Dirtbagging, for another glorious day on the river.
When you start planning a trip, I would decide where I want to go and look at traditional fish counts in that timeframe to narrow down when the best time to travel for a fishing trip.
Just came across your channel. Great video and editing. Appreciate there wasn’t music. Enjoyed the sounds of the water, birds and the reel zinging. Can’t wait till I’m there in 19 days.
@@RaisedinAlaska I’m certainly hoping we will. The last two years we were off. So when planning for this trip I sat down with the counts for the last 4-5 years and picked the highest average week. Fingers crossed. Do you use any particular flies or just beads or yarn?
@Steve-rr3gc The Kenai hasn’t seen many fish yet this year, so I think you’re going to hit it just right. I generally just use yarn, but sometimes I do use beads.
Very good video. Nice steady camera work and editing. All your videos are a pleasure to watch. Congratulations on the fishing too. Those sockeyes are wild! Thanks for showing the final product too.
We are on the Kenai for a few more days, can't seem to get a bite....saw a bit of action on the funny this am. But it might be getting ripe near out cabin this week. Hope so!!!
I can see your breath! It's like 100 degrees here and so humid it feels like I am drowning in air. I have a question, how do you get your boat back upstream?
On this trip, I launched my boat and then took my truck to the pull out and rode my mountain bike back up to the boat launch. After I pulled the boat out I went back up and got my bicycle.
Seriously, was that the worst netting debacle you’ve ever seen? I thought about cutting it out, but I found myself laughing at my own idiocy so I left it in. I’m hoping to get back down this week.
How do you make your run from the launch to where you take out.? A second vehicle.? I’m asking because I didn’t see a motor on your skiff and I’m guessing you didn’t pull oars all the way back to the launch.🤣
Great question: I leave my bicycle at the pull out so I can ride back up and get my truck. I’ve showed this in some videos, but it’s not that exciting so I leave it out most videos.☺️
There are salmon in the Su: however, Kings are closed right now and not a lot of reds go up that river. All that said, there will be a good silver run there in August/September.
I moved to Wasilla back in July 23. This year I’ve been fishing more. You can get some trout in the little Susitna, and some of the lakes are stocked. Salmon you gotta travel for bro. Few weeks ago picked up a small Sea King 13’ aluminum boat, been sitting for like 30 years in the weeds, at the same sale I found the trailer for it, buried barely noticeable, snagged that as well. Now I need a 9.9 hp outboard and some oars.
