Worked on the terminal in 1976-7. Fished where you are. Caught a bunch when If I remember right were Silvers. 1978. With my wife, and mom and dad up from Michigan for a couple fantastic weeks. Folks passed on now. Tremendous memories! In 2000 ,22 years later my son who was born in Alaska spent his Jr. summer away from Michigan State back in Alaska working with a flying lodges owners couple. Went down and fished that same spot with a local. Caught a ton of fish. Wow! Thanks so much for this. What memories!!!
@@Bushradical i know. Told tour wife and I'll tell you how much I enjoy your videos . We lived there 5 years in the 70s. Then a year in the 80s. My son was born there in 78. Thanks again.
This is cool. I graduated college in 1984 and drove to Alaska from Indiana with 3 friends. Spent most of the summer working at a fish processing plant, Sea Hawk Seafoods, in Valdez. Lived in an upside down, broken in two fishing boat 20 yards from the water. It was as close to heaven as I'll ever get while my feet are on this planet.
It’s all about the time with the family. Some great fishing and a view to die for is what it’s all about. You all just gave me the feels. Thanks brother!
I'm a little late in the game subscribing to your channel. I'm glad I did though. Your videos are very informative and pleasing to watch. I actually started off watching your wife's videos. You're a lucky guy. She's a real trooper. You guys are a perfect couple. I just wanted wish you both well and say thank you.
You would have loved it there, and I miss Ruby too though I only knew her through your videos it was obvious she was a cherished friend and a solid gold dog.
I haven’t gone to Valdez in years. Used to go fishing for silvers with my parents. Thanks for sharing this beautiful area of the world and the fishy fish. Good to meet you today.
We've been busier than a one legged grasshopper in a chicken house! Haha. I think we may make plans for next year to do some fishing and exploring up there next year, heads up!!!!
Awesome Pink Wooly Buggers...with bead eyes .. killer man killer... And the travelin' vise is the bomb! awesome man... wish i was there too.. its really something to get so many snags.. J
You Folks are wonderful. I loved that video. I've been there for a day but, we didn't fish, but it's such a beautiful place. I'm envious, I'll be back next summer, over at Kenny Lake.
Chest waders bro!! I'm one of those fisherman who could wear a body sized zip lock bag and STILL get soaked! I've always been like that, I need to step out on that fallen tree just one more step to reach a further few inches of creek, just one more...just one m.. SPLASH!! LOL! Summer AND winter! I've gone under the ice PUHLENTY! Anything that increases the odds of putting extree delicious fish in my belly is worth it! Plus there's the added bonus of the excuse "what?!...I fell through the ice baby!...what do you mean 'again'!?? ") How much tabasco are you using on your flies Dave? Get that fly within ten feet of a fish and their minnow-pie hole will be gaping wide in a split second!! Watching that fly float down that cavernous cave makes setting the hook a joy!! There's nothing like the look on your freshly fed friend's beat red, surprised scorched faces when they swipe a huge bite of your salmon on a bun when they think your back's turned!! The old "Back Turned 'N' Burned" routine! Told yus Suckers eat Salmon!! WOOOO!!! Sad about Ruby. We lost Dexter AKA "Sexy Dexy the Lady's Man" recently, which was completely out of the blue, our Old English Bulldogge was a true once in a lifetime boy...we're still devastated. So we'll have the wee bugger by October!! WOOOO!! Our bitchy Betty was just lost for weeks, she kept searching the back property it was so so heart wrenching!! On a bright side, we just got word from the breeder that his bitch had 8 pups and we're getting pick of the males!! The father is Dexter's half brother! Take care Whippage! Great video cats n kittens!! Jack - ~'()'~
Did most of my salmon fishing near Fairbanks. Good to see some coastal. Quite a different rig, I remember heavy weights and multiple hooks,. Great video!
I’m pretty sure a foul hooked fish is legal to keep in the Valdez Arm, however those pinks looked like they would be pretty soft. (For all who wonder why they would C&R) Looked like you guys had a fun time! We are planning to hit some silvers there soon. Great video!
Dang that looks fun! Love me some salmon. Round here we eat lot of catfish. Caught a 13 lb er on a no 6 hook.crazy! It looked like A dang tumor or sumpin.someone wanted to eat so, ugh. Gave it to em. Best catch was 85 lb tarpon in Ms gulf. Fun to watch em jump.my boy/ I used to trout fish in Ozarks. He's a gud fly fisherman. You ,Mickey and Brooke make everything you do look so easy. Whipples Rock!
Hello Dave, I loved Valdez also, when I was there in 1974 we got a bunch of salmons it was great time and place watching your video brings back a lot great memories. I notice your ford wagon is still chugging along after your encounter with the deer, looks like you put it back together ok my friend, another great video and looking forward to your next one, God Bless
Dave, that fishing trip looked like a real hoot. I am thinking back to when I was at Bay of Valdez. I believe was mid summer of 1971 or maybe 72. Thanks for sharing. Nick must be nearing 18.
I am sure it will be interesting to see.. I love to fish.' Fishing is 2nd best.... .. and have enjoyed it for many years. I starting fishing in 1940s.....
right on. I buy old rods at yard sales when I find a good deal. Lots of times you can get a good rod or real from the 70's for $1 ........people think newer is better, but a lot of those rods and reels were pretty great.
Wow, great to see the family out Salmon fishing. You really did have beautiful weather. Hope you kept some Salmon to eat. Great to see Brook and your son too, just missing your daughter. 😺💞
As long as you are below the tide line you can keep snagged fish. I was just down there catching some silvers a few months ago. I'm confused. I'm on a spin or bait-casting rod, but I am sure that the regs don't change with your fly rod. I'm rather certain your boy could've kept that fish
1992 I was there in the Navy aboard the USS kinkaid seen a moose and a bear somewhere way up a River road. One of the funnest 3 or 4 Day Port visits I ever I have never seen that many mosquitoes in my life.it was extremely nice while I was there it was July somewhere around the fourth we partied at the pipeline bar.and we caught lots of pink salmon and real them right up the side we were using bait we were keeping them up at three or four of us got 50 or 60 in a couple of hours. I have no idea if we were fishing illegally but you don't need a fishing license while in as long as you are fishing from the ship
Looks like a fun day! I was just thinking yesterday how it's been a long time since I've used my fly rod to catch anything. I'll fish with whatever I think will catch something, but I seem to have a bit more fun with my fly rods....as long as I can keep the line out of stream-side snags!
Great trip, fun video Dave. Thanks for taking me along. Furthest south I got while in Tok was Copper Center but the water looked same as your fishing site. Lots of glacial runoff water up there :-)
Any day you can fish with your family is a good day on the water. Those humpys are a lot more slimy than the silvers. Slippery little suckers. 😂 This is one of my favorite times of the year. Thanks for sharing your time on the water. Go get some shoe goo on them wadders so your ⚽️ 🏀 s don’t freeze next time. 😂
