This trip was truly an emotional roller coaster I have been fishing and hunting a long time and man let me tell you I missed the feeling of adrenaline pumping though my veins. Such a good time and I’m excited for more adventures!
Salmon fishing is one of my favorite things to do. I remember one year we were at the mouth of the little salmon near Riggins as we caught 5 in total that day I caught 3. Great place to be and a great video!
Thank you!! It was like that this year. Too bad it was only open for about a week. I landed 5 by 8am on the last Sunday it was open this year. Caught a 33” and bonked him. So much fun!! And they are delicious!
@@PNWOUTDOORS7923 I have a solid 10 wt that I use for salmon, but I’ve never tried fly fishing the main or little salmon. Those rivers are just rip’n too fast and too many people fishing in a line. But I have done well on the South Fork just throwing beads with a straight 30 lb leader.
I really appreciate your videos... I live in Nampa and it like the detail you put in your videos.. FYI my wife and it took your advice and visited the Fiddle Creek Fruit stand.. What a cool place
I used to live in McCall and use to go fishing here with my dad when I was a kid. We used to have a friend who ran jet boats and we would go up to a place called James ranch.
That whole area is amazing!! Love spending time on the Salmon! I’ll have to look up that Ranch, I have a buddy that runs the river quite a bit. Sounds like a great childhood! Thanks for sharing!
Caught them the easy way! Ha, ha! That’s awesome!! Ya, it was fun fishing with you guys, bs’n it up. Hopefully we won’t have to wait another 4 years for the next salmon season up there.. It’s taking forever to edit all the videos, but there will for sure be a new salmon video coming soon, and you might recognize a few folks in it. Tight lines brother!
Thanks man! It was really fun! Would love to see the salmon runs of the past come back, it was a lot of hours and casting to put fish in the cooler this year in Riggins. Always a good time tho!
@@huntinidaho There was a really healthy run of jack salmon this year, that usually precedes a good run the following year, so you have plenty of time to gear up for next salmon season!
I have went salmon fishing once and I lost a monster straightened my hook out always wanted to learn roe for the big salmon river for when there’s too many people on the little salmon
What time of the year we’re you there? I’m just starting to learn salmon fishing in Idaho (been a resident my whole life and never done it) just curious at what point the springs usually reach Riggins and the Salmon River. These are fantastic videos, Ive been to Alaska once for Kings and Im addicted. SO amazing to land one of these fish.
It varies a bit each year. But anywhere from now, middle of May until middle of June. Some years the run arrives a bit early or late like last years, and some years it’s a smaller run and the quota gets met early, so F&G shuts it down. Memorial Weekend is usually a good bet.
That’s a bummer. Shortages on everything these days. I really like that reel, the line release is very convenient for continuous casting. I would try Sportsman’s Wharehouse and then Dick’s Sporting goods, I believe they’ll likely have a good price on that reel as well.
Sweet. Ill find one. I'm new to fishing and am trying to figure out how to set my pole up, where do you use the swivel and what is the medical tubing for?
@@zachpeiffer3676 no time like the present to start. Salmon will be in Riggins soon.. If you watch one of my older videos “Salmon Fishing, how to rig a good set-up (ep.2)”, I show exactly how to tie up the set up I still use. It’s an older video, but good content.
You definitely want to be bouncing the bottom with the roe sacks, you won’t catch many if it’s not. Finding the right amount of pencil lead is key. Cast, cast and cast some more, until the roe turns white and repeat.
