I have a 2021 195 FSH and was wondering if you have ever used Salt Away to clean your boat? I have a foamer and and add a few ounces of Salt Away in the jug then dilute with water and foam over the entire boat and trailer, then rinse. However, I do like your idea of using a detailer solution to get the shine, salt away will leave water spots, but it seems to remove salt from everything. I run in Tampa Bay and wow what a salty mess cleaning this little 19' boat, takes me two hours...but ain't complaining its an amazing boat! Love your very informative VLOGS! Thanks!!

if your a salt water docking for a bit it would be awesome if yamaha installed diverter valves to flush engines while in water !

Great video. One thing I can suggest not sure it’s 100% right but just what I’ve always heard. You need about 1/3 of a cup of salt away to flush engine. Not a full cup. It will save you a lot of product in the long run. Also on the salt away instructions it says not to flush with fresh water after using salt away as some of the salt away is supposed to stay in the cooling system to continue breaking down any salt that may still be in there. I personally flush for 5-7 min with fresh water then 1 minute salt away then pull house out. Let it run for 5-10 more seconds to flush out excess water out of the system then small Rev once or twice then shut the engine off. If I’m feeling lazy and don’t feel like scrubbing the whole boat after just one day in the salt water you can fill the canister completely with salt away and spray whole boat and trailer with salt away and then rinse a few minutes later with fresh water. That works awesome unless you have dirt and grime on the boat that need more elbow grease and a wash mitt and suds. Salt away is amazing and saves me a lot of time for a quick cleanup after just 1 day on the water. Unless the boat is dirty and needs a full detail of course. Great video!

Nate, super great advice. Yes I’m aware of the general instruction to leave the product in the engine. I mention that in the instruction scrolling below the video at that point. I’m going to test your technique of using it instead of cleaning the whole boat when time is short. Thanks for the thorough and informative comment.

Wrong actually ..your suppose to rinse with salt away and NOT rinse it out as it leaves a protective coating .. full cup is needed concentration must be strong and long enough to disolve salt .
@ttvdecimatedbyme9130
@ttvdecimatedbyme9130 3 года назад
@@joedemola9636 I agree with not rinsing it out, but not the full cup part. The concentration is very strong with 1/4 or 1/3 of a cup. Try it out you will be surprised. Talked to many people who have been doing it this way for 10 years with jet boats.

Capt. Leon, I'm getting very good results from using Capt. Salty. I'm only hitting the water line with the brush and it looks great after it's washed off and dried. Saves me much time cleaning the big 25!

Your supposed to leave the salt away in the engine after 30 secs.... rinse jt all away. The saltaway creates a coating

Question for you Sir. I tried a couple jet boat forums and have yet to get a response. Total noob question. I got a 21 AR 190 this year. We are taking on vacation in a week and it will be docked the whole time. My question is regarding water drainage. If it rains all day for example, where does the water pool and how does it drain? I have a similar question for hiding the interior of the boat down when it’s trailered. Where does the water drain/pool in that scenario? Thanks in advance for any answers! Keep up the great content. I finally got my fluid extractor and will be doing my first oil change tomorrow based on your video.

Our boats are great. Water from the deck will exit at the rear near the engine hatch. There is a hole that connects to a white hose that runs through the engine compartment that drains out from under the swim platform. Either way, always make sure you leave the bilge pump on while it sits in the water. Crazy things can happen, and it may save your boat.
@trxntroll843
@trxntroll843 3 года назад
@@boatingpropless when you say leave the bilge on does that mean leave the battery switch on and the Bilge button depressed or one or the other or both? Thanks!

Salt build up after each trip out.... I flush out engine for 10 to 15 minutes as soon as I get home while engine still warm I have not used any salt removing product just water Hope I'm ok with that And I was wondering about using vinegar? Yes I always look for water coming out in case hose is kinked... or engine will over heat I always wash down entire boat afterwards with fresh water

I posted this on jetboat community a while back .. I think Yamaha 1.8L although tried ,true , tested and legendary . Is outdated ! And underpowered in today's day age . You have out board guys out there with x 2- 3- 350 HP units totaling up to 1000hp ..Yamaha needs a bump up and I'm not talking about supercharging ...we need a new 2.2 or 2.3L motor ..there is no replacement for displacement.!

Yeah Frank, some components of the trailer rust quickly. If you boat in Salt water make sure to wash it down as much as you can when you return.

Idk about jet drive but stern drive you absolutely don’t start engine first then turn water doing that will destroy your impeller for your water pump
@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore
@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore 2 года назад
You're correct Chris, as far as I know stern drive and outboards need water before start up, otherwise the impeller will burn up. Jet drives do not have water pumps, the water is forced up and through the engine through a pick up just past the impeller. If you turn on the water with the engine off there is a possibility the water could back up through the exhaust and through the exhaust valves into the cylinders. All Personal Watercraft and Jet Boats require the engine to be running before the water is turned on. I hope that helps, thanks for watching!

Its flows through all the water jackets, how much deeper does it need to go?
@steveperdueshowtofishingti2172
Pure undiluted over 40 minutes and it still won't clean break down build up. Especially out the jacketts.. breaks down some but not nearly enough. Sure it gets down there but what it does is what matters

This is a link to a test with SALT -AWAY and it didn't clean like I always thought, my thermostats were horrible. So for a deep flush I would defiantly not use salt away because even at 100 not diluted it does not work fast. do the test for yourself, I don't sell the stuff I use, more just information sharing, and shocked at the result of SALT AWAY, I will spray down with it but not Flush especially a used motor, flush with something that really breaks down the build up, I found that product, the navy uses it.
