This song was for the two girl groups, one of thier biggest and iconic singles of thiers career. This song was everywhere in 1993 and 1994 in radios and MTV and was a top 3 single in US and also in a lot of countrys since it's came out. One of the the most iconic song of the 90's.

"Whatta Man" was a gigantic hit for Salt-N-Pepa back in 1994. I remember watching the video on MTV back then for the first time and thinking lustful thoughts about Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue to be honest! [grin] The song has a great beat and a catchy hook. The bars in the outro showcase the killer hip-hop shuffle beat that was so popular back then. The song is adapted from "What a Man" by Linda Lyndell from 1968. Linda Lyndell was a backing singer for James Brown and Ike & Tina Turner and recorded the song for Stax records. The song made the R&B charts, but she was white and the KKK terrorized her into quitting the business before her career could really get started which is an evil shame because she could really sing and her career perhaps could have rivaled Dusty Springfield if not her other contemporaries like Cher perhaps.

This song shook up this headbanger thirty-odd years ago and still not a speck of tarnish. Loved watching you look like I did all those years ago. Cheers, young lady!

OMG i love this, i was like a baby when this came out. Was a huge hit in the 90s and i was obsessed, The video was super x rated for me at the time haha but i think they cut some bathrub scene of Pepa out here. Pepa was quite wild in the Euro version haha Love these two supergroups so much. The queens of Rap with the Queens of Soul/ R&B.

Yes, Salt N Pepa were doing sexy not raunchy; Lil Kim & Foxy stamped it in '96 and even had Salt N Pepa changing their style to mimic the new chicks but they had already been in the game since '86/87.
