I love your videos! You are the best! Humor and knowledge! So what are the fish that dont do well if exposed to air? Is blennies one of them? I added a blenny to two tanks and havnt seen them since I added them! I cuped them but tried to go so fast I am not sure if there was water in my hand! Dr reef says drip ac is bad because of the co2 and ph drop I believe the ammonia being coverted back from amonium. What is your belief!

Another good method for transferring fish with little risk of getting fins or gills caught is a plastic colander.

I use acclimate by reef gently for years and is the best acclimation method by far .... But for some reason, I see it has been discontinued. Why? No clue. Such a well made brilliant successful way of acclimating just about any type of livestock and they discontinued it. Hope I will never need parts for mine because I tell you, it is, the best. Hope they come out with something similar. Look it up to see why I rave about it.

Step #1 for shipped fish should be a few drops of ammonia detox. If new fish water is too cool float the new fish bag/container in a bucket with a few inches of warm fresh water. No mixing of water, just a rapid increase of temps to acceptable level.

So to replace that water that was mixed with store water' should you just replace with more salt water after fish are added or use fresh RO water after the fish are added. Jw so one wouldn't through off parameters slights

I know this is a dated video and may not get a reply but I just started to cycle my tank this afternoon with turbo start and some Dr Tim’s ammonium chloride. Do I need to QT my very first fish before putting them in my display tank? And if so is there a time when the cycle I have in my tank will break since having nothing else in it while waiting on my QT fish to be good to go? Or did I start to early and have to risk putting my first fish in without at QT?

What happens if I don’t have a quarantine tank? Can I not do this, but just do the transfer into my fish tank directly?
@BulkReefSupply
@BulkReefSupply 2 года назад
If you decide not to quarantine, you'd acclimate to your display tank's water and add the fish directly. Just keep in mind that there are some risks of introducing disease associated with skipping the QT step.

@@BulkReefSupply but if the fish don’t have disease at the store should I be ok? And can I add 2 clown fish together for first fish?

Should we not fresh water dip before QT?

Why dont you ad seachem Prime or similar to neutralize the amonia in the bag water.

Probably not necessary for fish from the LFS, but for shipped fish that's an option too.

I have always done the half a cup ever 15 min method and never lost a fish. Water temp drops too rapidly when trying to drip acclimate. Why would you do the half cup methods just to switch to drip? That makes no sense to me.

You usually wouldn't do both. In this video, Matthew talks about doing one or the other, but not both 🙂

I got a better breakdown guide. Step 1 : USE SEACHEM PRIME! ESPECIALLY IF THE FISH WAS SHIPPED THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING! Step 2 : PUT A BUBBLER IN! Step 3 : Pour seachem prime in the bucket you plan to acclimate in and then open and put the fish in the bucket ASAP! Step 4 : With the bubbler running the fish in the bucket and the bucket water temperature taken decide on how slow to take the acclimation. IF TEMPERATURE IS GOING TO BE AN ISSUE PUT A HEATER IN. Step 5 : TRY NOT TO DRIP ACCLIMATE INSTEAD GO FOR HALF A CUP METHOD EVERY 15 MINS NOT EVERY 3-4 MINS. DO NOT USE DRIP ACCLIMATION IF YOU HAVE TEMP ISSUE AND DON'T HAVE A HEATER TO USE. TAKE OUT AS MUCH WATER FROM THE ACCLIMATION BUCKET AS POSSIBLE YOU DON'T WANT TO WASTE WATER AND TIME ACCLIMATING 1 GALLON OF WATER WHEN YOU CAN DO JUST FINE IN 3-5 CUPS OF WATER IN THE BUCKET FROM THE STORE WATER. Step 6 : TAKE THE EXCESS WATER OUT AND START THE CUP METHOD POUR IN MORE WATER EVERY 15 MINS AFTER 4 POURS PUT THE FISH IN THE QT. Bonus Step : To remove the fish get yourself a container and make holes in it. Take the fish out with the cup you used for acclimation and pour the fish on said container with holes so the water drops back in the bucket and you never have to touch the fish and will always reuse the container with holes for future fish.
