We had the opportunity to visit Kei Mouth in the Eastern Cape recently to try out saltwater fishing in one SA's best fishing spots.
Despite expert advice from our hosts we had no idea what we were doing and eventually decided to rather get a charter to take us out on the river. Dylan from Great Kei Adventures obliged and we had a pretty successful day out on the river.
We really enjoyed our stay and we hope to return soon.

Now here's a place I could fish in Africa- no hippos, no crocs, no renegade soldiers or tribal war lords- just cool ppl, beautiful scenery, and good fishing. At least that's the way it appears, who knows- good video though, well done. I rarely get to leave the state to go fishing much less travel off to another country- I'm lucky if I can make it a few hours down the road tbh. If I could go fish anywhere in the world- Australia I think. The ppl and culture seems cool and the fishing in places is really good I hear- they have some large fresh and saltwater species to catch. Then again- there's lake Biwa, another dream location. They say it's unbelievably tough though- but really rewarding when it pays off I bet, and you could be fishing with legends. The best anglers in Japan fish there. Or- let's make it simple- Clear Lake California- what I wouldn't give to fish that place. Throw some big swim baits, do some froggin, and then head down to the delta to drag a jig around on the out going tide- perfect day of fishing. Ahhh- what i wouldn't give, but the reality is- I'll be going to the spillway an hour from my house in a few days, if I'm lucky... could be worse, at least I got the spillway.

Wow, that's quite a comment! But so awesome to read it :-) What kind of fishing do you enjoy? I ask because I'm sure Aus is nice but here in South Africa we have excellent fishing of all kinds including amazing bass fishing (and other fresh water types) and a rich variety of coastal species (we have cold and warm coastlines which have very different fish). You should make a plan to visit. Cheap, good fishing, no warlords but you might see the occasional croc or hippo :-) You guys in the states are spoilt also, we would love a spillway so nearby and accessible :-)

@@Anglinks We are spoiled- I agree, we have some tremendous fisheries where I live- in Alabama. I bass fish mostly- almost exclusively- sometimes I get to fish for striper but- not very often. I also catch a lot of bowfin- which is actually considered a junk species here, ppl dislike them- but they're huge, they hit moving baits, and they fight like a freight train. I really don't know why sport fishermen dislike them- if you're fishing for sport they're awesome. We are starting to get a few snake head here and there as well- an invasive species, but they are a blast to catch and fight even harder than the bowfin imo. I would sincerely love to visit South Africa and do some fishing but- that would be a very expensive, time consuming trip- not sure I could swing it. Maye one day- hopefully- thanks for the reply- tight lines!

We don't even know what species those are, we don't have them here, you really are spoilt for choice :-) We focus on bass, and then maybe tilapia, yellowfish or trout in winter. And some carp fishing of course. But yeah, who knows, maybe you can make it here someday. In the meantime, best of luck, tight lines and enjoy the spillway :-)

Great video! We also did some salt water angling along the Klein Brak river in December - caught a lot of sea barbel as well, but at least a nice kob and an grunter in between. As long as it bends the rod, I am happy!

Hi Hendel, long time! Yeah, saltwater fishing has bitten us, especially now that we have an idea of what to do. I actually can't wait to get to the coast again some time to try out our new skills :-) Sounds like you guys had a lot more luck than us though.

@@Anglinks I would not say we were lucky, we where 5 fishing and only took one home!(the cob got away at the very moment the one guy wanted to pull it out the water 😁) At least your barbel has some size to them, ours where tiny! I must say I do like this tag and release idea.

Yeah, we were fascinated by the tagging, such an awesome thing to see where your fish ended up, we should do it with all 3kg+ bass 😀 I just hope that fish survives long enough to get caught and released again...
