Definitely agree. I hope that more literature about the event ends up getting written.

Yeah that was one of the reasons why I wanted to read this, because I feel like there is so little out there about Katrina

I'm so proud of my Mimi for making it this far. She's coming out with another book I think

This sounds really interesting. I remember being so shocked at Katrina. At the time I was reading the blog of someone who lived in NOLA and it was just terrifying and then heart-breaking as they decided to leave and then returned to a destroyed house and neighborhood. It's something I've always wanted to know more about.

The whole time I'm thinking "they need to get out of there" 😭

Ward's novel has been on my TBR since I heard about it on Books on a Nightstand podcast many moons ago. Loved your review and need to push this title up on my list. I visit New Orleans a couple of years ago and seeing all the destruction that still exists there is just heartrending.

Esh is the correct pronunciation I believe. No they aren't and they weren't optimistic. Take it from someone who's family lives in New Orleans. Have heard about this book and will have to check it out. Thanks for the review!

One of my goals is to read more black authors so I have this one my list now. Hope to check it out soon. Great review.

It isn't so much that it was out of the blue, but more that it ended and I wasn't super satisfied with the way it ended. But I still think it is worth reading

This sounds like such a great book, but I am terrified to read it because I'm always careful with books that concern animals. That probably sounds odd, but it just breaks my heart when horrible things happen to them, and when they appear in books, they usually come to a tragic end. Great review, Rincey!

Yeah, there is definitely some violence towards animals in here that may get to you then.
