Salvaging a Flooded Basement Before it Collapses

The horror story basement in this property has leaked for many years and multiple construction companies have attempted to solve the waterproofing and structural issues.
We go on a journey to salvage and restore this basement by building a structural waterproof box within the existing basement. We battle collapsing walls, incoming water, tree roots, decaying RSJ’s, condensation and leaking swimming pools while creating structures, pouring concrete, fitting Delta Membranes waterproof systems and pre-wiring for a home cinema, which we will be fitting soon.
This is our first showcase where we show you a build project from start to finish. The edit may well have taken longer than the actual build! :)

I am a damp and condensation consultant in London, where I investigate, diagnose and implement remedial works for residential properties. I have watched this from the beginning to the end and I really love the meticulous approach of your company and your finish. Unlike many companies that show no care, take shortcuts and inconvenience the clients in the end. This is what I call first class work. Keep up the great work Mr Ashville.

At first I thought this was overkill, but then I thought about it and remembered nature always wins and this level of protection was necessary to keep water at bay, I’m sure the customer was fed up with the basement failing after the previous two attempts and made the right decision and gave you a call to do a proper job

I don't know where to start, Daniel. First off, you are a very articulate man, and also you annunciate very well, which, because I am deaf, allows me to understand you easily, and take in what is quite a complex job. That is to say that being articulate, you present it well, and because you annunciate well, I can understand every word you say. Thank you. Ok, I think the animations are absolutely first class, and help immensely to put across how the job progresses. Do you have someone in house who does this, or have you subbed that out to an external company ? Either way, they are very good. I guess client confidentiality would prevent you from telling us what the value of the job was, but looking at what was involved, it must have been eye watering. I am impressed by the grasp you have over what is happening at any given stage of the job. Apart from the membrane crowd, how many external consultants were involved in advising your company on the correct way to approach the job, or was that in house? I think your giving a guarantee to your work because your client accepted all your recommendations speaks volumes for you and your client, I have a feeling that you have both fallen on someone decent ! I am very much looking forward to the completion of this project.

But an interesting approach, since water proofing has multiply solutions.
@jamesmoore1532
@jamesmoore1532 2 года назад
From a US perspective I only know exterior waterproofing. Everything we do is to keep the water out of structure. We would have replaced the exterior walls and plan an exterior waterproofing and drainage system. Hydrostatic pressure is best mitigated by water management on the property.

So, let me get this straight.. Basement was flooded from 1) The pool side. The pool lights were leaking INTO the basement. 2) The roof rain drain. The pipes were causing massive holes and leaking INTO the basement. 3) The garden steps. The steps had no membrane and water leaked INTO the basement. 4) The garden steps drains. The drain was completely clogged and could not manage the water away, so it seeped into the soil and leaked INTO the basement. 5) The back windows. The windows had no membrane and water leaked INTO the basement. This is of course, not mentioning the Tree Roots putting additional pressure onto the original basement wall. Did I miss anything?

Wow I can see why it took so long to salvage and the quality of work is next level, I think you could of built that basement inside a pool and still had no leaks. A credit to you and your team, also the quality of the video itself with the animations was next level, love it. I am a fitness manager and have no idea about construction, but even I could tell this is next level. Love your work keep it up!!

cant believe I've just watch this whole video! there is not many company's that would take on this job let alone complete it how you have. amazing workman ship. cant imagine running a job like this and having to explain each time more leaks are found from different areas of the house.

One of the very best videos I've ever seen on RU-vid. Saw it was over 3/4 of an hour long and fully expected to skip, but watched every second as it was that enthralling and informative. I know absolutely nothing of construction engineering, but came away educated on the complexities and the problem-solving involved in an operation such as this. Cannot wait for Part Two!

The work you and your team do is phenomenal! More of this kinda content would be a real winner for your channel. Love all your content regardless but seeing projects from start to finish are very entertaining and educational.

This is one of the best video's you have ever put out. I thought i would end up skipping through it but after 2minutes knew i would be watching it all. The 3D animations are amazing, well done to your team. The level of theses video's is better than most TV productions!

Love love love this video!! Big up to the effort and lengths you’ve gone to to get commentary on each stage whilst trying to avoid getting in the way especially on the concrete pour! Love the annotations explaining the technical terms you so commonly use. I work in IT but its great to see explanations of things you don’t work with on the daily in layman’s terms!
