Salvation is From the Jews | Messianic Reaction to The Chosen S1 E8

Sam and Dr. Tom dish up some weighty issues as they react to the last episode of the first season of The Chosen. The guys talk about the woman at the well and why Yeshua says, "Salvation comes from the Jews" (John 4:22) instead of “Salvation comes from Me”? And Watch Sam drop some bombshells on Tom by comparing the wives of Nicodemus and Simon and the theme of the GOD Who sees.

The scene with Nicodemus makes me cry every time. I know so many who chose not to follow Jesus completely; they want to keep one foot in the world and in their sin. For some reason, they cannot see what they are giving up. It is heartbreaking.

That scene at the end with Nicodemus wrecks me every time I watch it. I also love that Mary is the only one who notices Jesus's statement about Nico coming so close. She's got this connection with Him to the point to where she's the one to pour perfume on His feet because she understands something the rest of them don't.
@ginger7044
@ginger7044 Год назад
lovely sentiment but I’m not sure the bible says that it was Mary of Magdala that washed his feet with her tears and broke the alabaster vessel of spikenard. I think it is a controversial enigma as the woman was not named in the story.
@jeffstumpf9129
@jeffstumpf9129 Год назад
Ginger, you’re right. The perfume woman is identified as a prostitute, Mary is not. Being possessed by seven demons is problem enough. Anyway, Jesus doesn’t define people by their past, his love is real. The Good News is for everyone.

Regarding the scene where Nicodemus tells Shmuel "He's just a man..." I felt he was trying to protect Jesus and derail Shmuel from the path he was heading down. It never came across to me that Nicodemus was doubting or had changed his mind about who he believed Jesus to be. I have been watching this show daily for a year now and I enjoy watching videos that bring new insight and learning to the scriptures as well as light to things I did not catch and/or understand. Thank you for being insightful and entertaining.

I thought the same thing about Nicodemus. Not at all doubting the divinity of Jesus, but trying to make Shmuel think He (Jesus) was nothing to be concerned about. I think Nicodemus is fully persuaded that Jesus is God in the flesh, but did not feel he could convince Zohara.

7:35 Sam nails it on the head. I've struggled with that a lot this year. The status quo is most often comfortable, change is most often uncomfortable. It's amazing how God has shown us his goodness over and over and over and yet we so often resist that call when it comes.

I am going through a lot of painful trials right now and you said something that I never connected when I have seen this episode in the past. You connected Jesus words to Eden, "I see you," with the scene with Nicodemus when he was talking about Hagar and Adonai El Roy, The God who sees. Your connection was just what I needed today. That my God sees me right now in the midst of what is going on. God's word and God's name has given me exactly what I needed today. I love you guys and love your station. God bless you and your families, and your ministry.

Nancy Albao - Your comment was so right on. I had noticed Mary's face when He called Matthew , but had to watch to see when Yeshua asks if anyone else is coming. Only because I had read about Hagar and done my workbook, did I catch the Adonai el Roi reference. Maybe it is a good thing - becoming familiar with the Bible in my twilight years. Things make sense. Looking forward to your next post! God be always with you 🙏

The scene of Jesus telling Eden; there is no sacrifice Simon makes that does not affect you, you have a roll in this," Wow the tears started flowing. We do under estimate what the value of our roll is. Sure, I am not Simon Peter, but if I can affect just one person believing in Jesus? That's worth it.

Great review! One thing I haven't heard anyone point out is that Nicodemus' wife hadn't seen or met Jesus so didn't understand what was going on with her husband. Also that (at least in The Chosen) Nicodemus is advanced in age. Being in that phase of life myself, I know how very difficult it would be to walk long distances, sleep on the ground and deal with cold and lack of food. I know he should've trusted Jesus with all of that, but age does make a difference. Based on John 3, 7 and 19I I believe that Nicodemus did believe in Jesus. Just sayin'. 😊

I appreciated the mentioning of the two wives and had not considered the opposite roles they played for their husbands, Simon and Nicodemis: Eden thanking Simon for obeying and following Jesus and Zohara telling Nicodemis she wants to return to their old life! Though Nicodemis spiritually is crushed when he can't let himself join with Jesus, will they portray God yet using Nicodemis later on to play significant roles in the promotion of faith and in support of Jesus's earthly work? Can God be happy with our work for Him even when we might miss the first call to us, but later follow His Spirit's leading at other times. I believe God mainly looks at the here-and-now and forgives the past stumbles as we repent and continue to reach toward Him with our hearts.

The Bible shows Nicodemus didn't have that kind of influence at all, which is why Jhn 3 shows him sneaking around in the night to talk to Jesus. He didn't want to be seen doing it because he was afraid of the other Pharisees and Caiaphas since he was the acting high priest at the time. Caiaphas had more influence than any Pharisee.

Regarding Jesus's words to Simon at 10:00, coming from a different culture, upbringing etc., I never saw it or see it as something as "would Jesus say things like that" etc. To us, they are not hurtful or negative etc. In fact I chuckled when I saw that because I thought it was true according to this portrayal of Simon and its nice to see a portrayal of how Jesus would be like as a normal person as well. People say things like that all the time and it doesn't always induce any negative reaction or rather, many times there no negative intention behind it. So, I wouldn't say it was a "jab". I rather thought it was highlighting more of him being a normal human. However, yes, it is good you mentioned that this dialogue was non-Scriptural addition as we being imperfect cannot make everything perfectly. Just wanted to share my thoughts :)

I really enjoy your reviews of scenes from The Chosen and the explanations of where and how Judaism influenced Christianity in their videos. I really do appreciate y'all for taking the time to teach us about these things that aren't in the everyday teaching of Christianity. I do have a small complaint with these 1st season videos. I feel like you cut off the scene you're watching and jump to the next; it feels jumbled. I do miss the way y'all did the videos of the 2nd season where y'all would watch the whole scene & then talk about it. Side note: When y'all were talking about wives influencing their husbands my first thought was of a scene from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Hi Sam and Dr. Tom, lately I've been wondering a lot about the interactions between the Lord Jesus and the Pharisees, and it came to mind that they too were tested by the Lord. For example Luke 5:30-32 "But the Pharisees and their scribes complained to Jesus’ disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” Jesus answered, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” Where the Pharisees then should have realized that Proverbs 20:9 and Ecclesiates 7:20 is true and that all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.

I really enjoyed this video, and the heart felt commentary. Smashed that "Like" button and hit the Subscribe !! Don't get too hung up on John 4:22. Jesus is merely reiterating to the women about the status quo of their time. In verse 23, he begins debunking this notion. Not sure what version of scripture you're referencing ? However, in the King James version it does not state salvation "comes" from the Jews. Only the Lord God can offer salvation, not Jews. The belief in those days Jews were privileged "to" salvation. Here's a copy of the King James version of this.... "22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews." Of course, Jesus debunks this to the woman. Keep up the good work and humor ! ❤👍👍👍🙏

The first scene, which sparked your discussion about territorial gods, and the last scene at the well, which led to your emphasis on John 4:22 (salvation is of the Jews), support the Deuteronomy 32:8-9 worldview, the gist of which is that following the Tower of Babel incident, when Yahweh scattered and confused the languages of mankind, He set boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the sons of God (see ESV) - a reference to the divine council. But Yahweh created His own people and Jacob (Israel) is the allotment of His inheritence. Salvation is of the Jews because Israel is God's portion and salvation is from God. These sons of God were indeed territorial gods who failed to honor Yahweh. Psalm 82:1-8 reveals what happened with the sons of God to whom were given the other nations. In a divine council meeting, God excoriated them and punished them, saying that they would die like men. Yahweh has been winning the nations back through the witness of the Church since the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost.

Mickael Heiser has a lot to say about land territory and the sons of God after the tower of babble then His relationship with Abram to go to the land of promise. A lot more.

I like this conversation but I want to ask the one without the beard to relax and look at the camera more .. it is distracting from his message when he is constantly looking at the other gentleman .. imho

Yeshua means to deliver or to save, so HE said in effect “salvation comes from the Jews” or “I Yeshua come from the jews” and in scripture he is also called Emmanuel which means God is with us. So I come from the jews, and I will save you.

GET SOMETHING ON OUR MIND’S He have shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, Mark the perfect man and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. Psalms 37:37 KJV Beloved, if we get nothing else while on this pilgrimage journey traveling through this life, just remember, “only what we do for Christ will last”, only what we do for Him, will be counted in the end, only, what we do for Christ will last. We that have been on planet earth for a little while, are seeing before our eyes the crumbling of this society, men’s hearts are failing for fear, seems like trouble is on every hand, but be filled with the Spirit, your Lamp trimmed and Clear, look up! Your redemption is near. Stop “our” foolishness, and REPENT! Jesus is coming! Jesus is coming! Jesus is Coming! Allow the main thing of the main thing to be the main thing in our lives so we can be found among this called out group in “I Peter 2:9-10” KJV The Church of the living God! Will you be save today? St. Luke 24:47; Acts 1:8; 2:37-38; Eph. 4:5-7; Col. 3:17 KJV Not a sermon, just a thought. Elder Anthony Sanders.
