The amount of trouble Lance caused in vice city stories and vice city pretty much sums up how he always wanted more, given the fact that tommy saved him from being tortured or have vic save him multiple times yet he screws them over
Yes and also you can only wonder who really fits this fictional character in real life as well or if you met him or her somewhere. Really have suspect that he's suffering from that lifestyle inflation we hear about or who knows what other disorders maybe even that FOMO we hear so much about. I know this would anger people about this but still you can only wonder.
Vice city stories is my favorite storyline in the whole series. I actually teared up when Louise got killed and Vic said “we did have something”... that got me
It's already very known that Lance was an apathic moron that deserved what he got, but what many people don't talk about too much is that because of Lance getting himself and Victor killed in Vice City, he unintentionally let their brother Pete without any sort of income for his asthma treatment, thus it's unknown whether he's still alive or his condition worsened and died after VC
Lance would have been dead if he worked for anyone else. I know for sure Tenpenny would beat the crap out of Lance if he acted like a baby in front of him.
Special thanks to EggBlunt, Ryder and ArthurMorgan's Catto for help reviewing this episode's script for lore mistakes. For those confused by the episode order it is based on how much information I have available on a character but I will be covering pretty much everybody from the 3D universe and eventually HD (Though thats been muddied with the confirmation of VI). Next up is NOT more Vice City, Ricardo Diaz and Sonny Forelli will be covered eventually but not yet. Next week we are jumping into San Andreas for a bit. Stay tuned.
I love how you’ve evolved and made so many slight changes in comparison to your first video. The production and all was fantastic. Awesome job man, yet again!
I don't think Lance is so much an idiot as he is an emotionally stunted manchild. He's been shown to be able to use his head in the right situation. He figures out Forbes is a cop before Vic does, he quickly comes up with a plan to frame Martinez and clear he and his brother's names with the Mendez, he's the only character who uses an alias, and he figures out Diaz was behind the botched deal. If Lance could just grow up, he could have been a good partner to Tommy.
What I find hilarious and make Lance even STUPID than he already was, he thought Sonny would treat him better and give him that opportunity he kept yelling to Tommy he didn't do, and to which he wanted to turn against him, but as a mob boss Tommy was really more laid back even during lance fuck ups, and would had remained loyal to him. Had sonny got the upper hand and killed Tommy, Lance would be next and he'd use him merely as a pawn. He turned against his best friend Tommy what make Lance think he wouldn't turn his back on him....as Tommy state. "YOU PICKED THE WRONG SIDE LANCE"
@Gannadon24gaming It’s not just drugs but the Narcissism that he either developed from his mother (Average Narc) or is born with (Psychopath). Lance is not reasonable like Tommy and Vic, he’s just a remorseless habitual conspiracist who’s always looking for control of Vic and Tommy’s properties but he needs the right moment to try
@@MrBronx61 Really no surprise there and also you can only wonder about who else in other parts can match this character both in TV, movies and real life.
Yeah you can only wonder about that as well and also any other characters in the GTA franchise would have already put him 6 Feet under or beaten him and if that didn't get him his coked up lifestyle would.
36:18 You realized the way he said “I sold you out Tommy” was him telling Tommy that he was the only who sold him out and him alone. Just like what Tommy mentioned before that this is his operation alone. Lance felt like Tommy doesn’t see this business as a partnership so he was done with him. That’s why when Tommy said: “You sold us out” Lance said: “No, I sold YOU out Tommy. I sold YOU out!” With the way he said it, He stated he didn’t betray anybody, not Rosenberg, not any of the people who run Tommy’s assets, he only betrayed Tommy and Tommy alone.
Like it. It is cool review. You are right, Karma really caught up with Lance. Lance's stupid behavior is what got him killed at the end. Lance was a man child that expected to be given everything to him on a plate and not putting in the work and effort to it. Lance never learn his lessons. Vic and Tommy had every right to yell at him. They did all the work. Lance was also a big idiot for trying to make a deal with Sonny and trying to betray Tommy because there was no way Sonny was going to let Lance have full control of the criminal empire in Vice City. Sonny betrayed Tommy and he would have betrayed Lance later on. Lance got his brother killed.
Very interesting video. I think that Lance was a something of a complex character, and his childhood caused him great mental instabilities, which he sought to fullfil its void, leading him to making very bad decisions. I think that people should try to see things from Lance's perspective, however. Especially his relationship with Tommy. Lance's problem was that he was a very impulsive individual, and made bad choices. Tommy is a short sighted individual when it comes to seeing things from others' perspective. Ultimately, I think they were both wrong with how they treated each other with themselves putting their own desires before the latter - Lance made bad moves and didn't take responsibility, but helped Tommy take over Diaz' empire, and ultimately, it was their empire, and Tommy didn't treat him as an equal partner, just as an equal friend, but was too naive to see things from his perspective and was power-hungry. In some regards, maybe he was power hungry too, and perhaps motivated by greed, but is Tommy not greedy? Tommy deemed the Vercetti crime family as his own, and despite Lance and Ken standing by him, he arrogantly claimed the operation was his own, despite Lance probably being in charge of securing protection to Tommy's business ventures and Ken loyally standing by him, and helping him set up a heist. Lance was a poor bastard, just like Tommy said, and while he betrayed Tommy and got himself killed, it is a bad path that brought him his own demise, and what Guiness Walker said may be true - Lance was probably depressed which caused his drinking, and it is an arguement I believe in for years. My final point is, that Tommy did genuinely valued Lance as a friend, and that much is apparent in his guilt after he killed him, and made him a more colder person in my opinion, which is evident in his abandonment of Ken.
Tommy abandoned Ken because Ken became a useless cokehead, and his addiction would be detrimental to business, thus the reason he sent Ken to rehab and never want anything to do with him. Partner or not, no one wants to associate themselves with a cokehead. You know just how much damage they could do to other people? Just look at what happened to Tony Montana and what he did to Manny. Also, Tommy just got over being betrayed by Lance and did NOT wanted to repeat the same issue with Ken. So him abandoning Ken was a smart move on Tommy's part. If Ken didn't mess with that coke, Tommy would still value him as his partner. It's Ken's own fault.
@@waters228_91 Ken was at distress.... Tonmy abandoning him made it worse. Considering that Ken is considered by fans as Tommy's true friend, that should also be considered a crappy move. And like I said, Tommy became more colder after Lance's death, which affected him greatly in my opinions. I also said in a different comment that at least Tommy should have found Ken a job, even if its not in Vice City. Ken made him. Tommy owes him that much. He didn't have to see him again, just make sure he is provided for at least. Can't this arguement make sense? Also, Ken's drug issue was starting during the Malibu Club story apparently. Its almost as if Ken took drugs from Tommy's own supply. Tommy's a drug dealer. He should never have judged Ken's addiction. Him helping Ken by sending him to rehab is an act of kindness, but Tommy abandoning him just makes that act shallow because it left Ken vunerable to start doing cocaine again. Besides, while Ken was a major addict, unlike Tony Montana, he'd never hurt or kill someone. His drug addiction did make him a detrimental business partner, but Tommy should have still tried to help him get back on his feet, or give him money, instead of leaving him like that A RECOVERING drug addict, out in the desert.
@@justsomeguy747 What was he distressed about? Tommy was already considered his partner, and at no point did it seem his business was in declined sometime before 1992. So there was not a reason at all for Ken to be sniffing coke. As I said before, if you're too hooked up on drugs, people will stop hanging around you, friend or not. You think Tommy's going to just leave his true friend addicted to coke and think it's okay to keep him around? Sorry, but if Ken really wanted to stay by Tommy's side, he would have just left that coke alone and stayed clean. Remember, don't get high on your own supply. Tommy was smart for following that rule. Ken wasn't, which is what costed him his friendship with Tommy. While I will admit that Tommy could have at least contacted him, his decision to cut all ties with Rosenberg is still understandable regardless. Maybe Ken didn't try to hurt anyone, but that side effect would have came around eventually. Still Ken's fault.
@@waters228_91 No it’s not just Ken’s fault. Don’t use your own supply is an interesting argument but remember the likelihood that the very coke Ken consumed was probably from Tommy’s gang. Ken was at a stressful situation that what I meant. He had no job, and was counting on Tommy to help him. Him being in a stressful situation could have caused him to get coke sooner, and thus by abandoning him Tommy undid his act of kindness. Besides even if there was no decline in Tommy’s empire, Ken was a known drug addict and Tommy was a dealer. For Ken’s sake he should have quit selling drugs altogether. But he didn’t because business mattered more to him than friendship. At least after Lance’s demise.
@@waters228_91 despite my disagreement with your opinions, I respect you. I just think that Ken should have been provided by Tommy. Tommy is a firm believer in the Mafia code. And even if Ken wasn’t a mobster he was his partner.
I've been seeing your videos in my recommendations for close to a month now but always ignored them because at first I thought it'd just be "another gta youtuber". Gave it a try yesterday morning, and now I've watched the entirety of your content. This is some of the best content I've seen on the platform on a long time, can't wait to watch the next video. Amazing work
Keep up the awesome content Guiness! By far I look forward to your content the most. Outstanding work! Edit: Also I really liked your mention of "or 20 million" referring to the counterfeit cash. I'm guessing because the discrepancy in the original VC subtitles?
I think it speaks volumes that the footage used is all from the OG Vice city and not the remastered version of the game. Rockstar needs to get their shit together.
Lance is proof that Philip Michael Thomas could ACT. compare the ice cold and stoic Tubbs from Miami Vice with the loudmouth clown Lance is. Never got the career he deserved
Lance was a charmer and a hell of a promoter but, he is also lacking "a backbone" he should have learned that making contacts is his game. So, after he got his brother killed because he wanted to play a "tough guy" which he will never able to be. He should just try to be more like Ken. Just doing what he is good at. If anyone is phony its Lance. He should have gave up the coke and work as information broker. He would make a killing instead, well...getting killed
I love your biography vids, bro Keep up the good work and I can't wait for you to cover Big Smoke or Ryder from the hints you gave at the end of the documentary.
Great video as always. One idea I had was what if near the start of the video there was a small print disclaimer saying something to the effect of that the people shown are actors. This would explain where all the cinematic footage of events no camera would've been present for comes from and lend a certain documentary-drama feel to the videos.
I know man, trust me I think about it. I'm just swamped with the new series schedule. I am working on some idea in the background for the gaming channel eventually.
Lance was my favorite character in vice city it's a shame what we came of him and I'm curious 14:45 you say 3 suits? Are you talking about Lance 1984 suit Lance 1987 suit and Vic's Orange suit?
I was always upset when Lance turned on Tommy. I always liked their relationshop (initially) and thought they'd make a great crime duo. Like a version of Crockett & Tubbs on the opposite side of the law
Ok, and now we’ve skipped over a Main Antagonist straight to the Secondary Antagonist. You did both the Main Antagonist and Secondary Antagonist with III (Catalina Vialpando and Salvatore Leone) although not the Tertiary (Miguel). Now you’ve skipped the Main Antagonist of VC (Sonny Forelli) and gone straight to the Secondary Antagonist (Lance Vance). Will you skip the Tertiary again(Ricardo Diaz) or not? Just finding the lack of a pattern a bit confusing. In San Andreas will you do the Main (Officer Tenpenny), Secondary (Big Smoke) AND Tertiary (Officer Pulaski)?
Think about how many missions characters like Sonny and Miguel have and ask yourself if they have content on their own for a 20min - half hour + episode. There are lots of people who like to stretch their videos out to be longer than necessary, I am not one of them. GTA biographies has no set length because it's based on how much info I have on a character and there just isn't enough for characters like Sonny but don't worry I WILL get to him and others...
@@TheCriminalHistorian I mean Sonny has his whole history with Tommy in 1971 and stuff, Miguel was in LCS along with 3, but I getcha. Kinda weird that the “Main Antagonist” of a game is getting skipped over, although, I suppose that’ll happen to LCS too with Massimo….and Paulie….and Vincenzo….actually nobody in that game has much to work with
@@TheCriminalHistorian Going off that, Diaz probably will qualify, as will all 3 in both SA and VCS, and exactly 0 in LCS because all 3 villains are super underdeveloped. King Courtney will probably qualify in Advance, but not Vinnie. 4 will have Dimitri and Peg, but probably not Darko, all 3 probably in TLAD, and Ray and Rocco in TBOGT, but not Timur
@@Michael_De_Santa-Unofficial Ryder disappears after he betrays you and then dies unceremoniously, while Pulaski is the main villains second in command and dies near the end of the game after a lot of appearances. Whoever edited that on the GTA wiki is an idiot, it used to be Pulaski until a year or two ago and it should be
@@TheCriminalHistorian Yea i forgot bout it but in vc they coulda had them at least "warn" tommy bout him or sum then when vcs came out it woulda made the connection like lance used 2 snort with diaz in '84 bt in '86 gone tell him his name Quentin but in defense diaz stayed high off his own supply so that was a reason on why he didnt know lance in vc
Guiness I Have A Question Will you Do A Biography Vídeo On Charcaters That Are Not Criminals For Exemple A Biography On Leon Kennedy From The Resident Evil Franchise
A Criminal History will only ever focus on criminals or crime adjacent people. The series will start with GTA, move into other crime games, then crime movies and eventually real life crime. However I may do a new series one day covering other kinds of characters. In the case of something like Resident Evil I would have to play the games first as I have not. I want the things I make to come from a place of passion first. I'm not taking anything off the table for the future though.
As far as getting shit done I rather wrk wit Lance b4 lamar or Kent Paul or Roman belic well mayb not Kent cause even tho he a coward he got hella connections but definitely lamar bro is completely useless but u kno he won't betray u tho if lance didn't betray tommy he wud b wayy betta den the others
This is the Lance Vance dance! EDIT (10/1/2022): While I do love Lance and enjoy his happy personality, there are a couple of moments I hated him for, especially Louise's death.
