From my new album 'Silver Horizon'. Listen and buy: samcarter.band...
This song was recorded live in session at Yellow Arch Studios by Northern Cowboys and features Sam Vicary of Cinematic Orchestra on double bass.
It was inspired by the transitory nature of living in London, where I shared a flat for many years, and my subsequent move up to Sheffield, where I’m now based. Earlier on in the song, the search for a home I’m describing is more concrete. As the song progresses, that becomes more abstract and depicts the search for a more general sense of belonging. For me, this a hopeful and empowering song, ending with an important realisation in the final chorus: a sense of belonging is something you build for yourself rather than stumble over.
I’ve recently spent a lot more time writing on my trusty 1966 Gibson ES125, the guitar in this video. It’s allowed me to create a different sound world from my previous, predominantly acoustic work, and I’m very excited to be taking this new sound out on tour in the autumn.
