I stand to disagree. He went from a state of a genius to a state of a genius He kept this along all those years.. It was not a smooth ride. It went kind of sour with Control. It got redeemed with Alan Wake 2.
Alan Wake II is probably one of the most terrifying games I have played. And the author of that game's story is probably one of the biggest goobers (I mean this as a compliment) I have ever seen. The cognative dissonance is brain-breaking.
Tends to happen. As an opposity. Hayao Miyazaki makes some of the most uplifting and positive animated movies out there, and the man himself is a brooding and grim ultra nihilist.
@@Rikuyami_x - Feels more like Sam's smiling, completely unaware that he looks _exactly_ like a figment of Alan's imagination, which naturally causes Alan to wonder if Sam's real or a figment of his imagination.
I heard it's because trying to say his last name (for english speakers at least) is a pain and so to save the trouble, he just goes by Lake for his last name.@@Patralgan
So what you’re saying is, instead of Jedi Survivor or AC Mirage, I should buy this and play it asap? I’m a *massive* Remedy stan… just trying to limit full msrp games lol. (Pls give me an excuse)
@@michaellangan5037If you want a memorable game that stays with you, then yes. AW2 is definitely one of, if not the, best games I have ever played. Even after finishing it I keep thinking about it and relishing in its best moments ❤
@@Padam91 whewwwww. I mean I didn’t really need a hard sell 😂 I love Remedy, love Sam Lake, but was luke oh Alan Wake 1 for whatever reason - only played it in 2021 remastered.
@@michaellangan5037 Yeah Alan Wake 2 is such a leap on every aspect that even if they take place in the same universe, they are not too similar at all.
Something i love about Sam is his accent. It's just that specific type of Accent i've only seen Finns speak. Nowdays we speak english a bit better due to the internet and all making learning easier but that is just the accent most people over the age of 40 speak. that's the accent my parents speak in Especially the accent my Grand parents speak in. also Sams Favorite Xbox360 game was Lego marvel superheroes, How can a man be so based?
now it makes sense why alan wake 2 is such an awesome game, because this guy is the one responsible for writing and leading the creative process and COFFEE WORLD from Jakko and Ilmo is an easter egg
Low key this man has accompanied all my life ever since I was blown away as a 17y old playing Max Payne. Didn't fully realize all he is and means from the very first day, but always seeing him from time to time and also experiencing the amazing games, now that I am 39, it's like looking back I can't picture my love of videogames and stories without him :) That rummaging in the basement of Remedy's HQ to find Max Payne gear from the very first I felt like a million dollars, such a sweet moment, I was laughing with tears and touched at the same time :) "Echo scenes to seek ooooooooooouTT!!! AGAIN AND AGAaaaaaaaaaaIN!!" :)
Beautifully said. I've loved him for a long time but you're right. He's just always been there and all of the sudden it really exploded post Control and AW2 in terms of my realizing how much I cherish him. He's somehow ego free in spite of clearly loving the camera and spotlight. Just such a weird, goofy guy who loves creative media of all kinds and wants to celebrate all of it however he can. There's really no one that quite occupies the space he is in. One of the purest creatives in gaming media. Right up there with someone like Lorne Lanning in terms of their inability to not be so obvious about who they are in the best kind of way
One of the reasons I try to encourage people to seriously check out remedy games, honestly only other game that ever brought me into its world as good as any remedy game was hellblade senuas sacrifice which is another highly recommended series for those seeking a highly immerse story experience
It's awesome seeing Sam Lake become more of a household name in the gaming industry. I remember becoming a fan of his after Max Payne 2 but before Alan Wake(2005ish). This is when I started paying closer attention to who are actually behind the games that I enjoy. The person, who they are, what other works they've done etc. There was such little info on him back then when he was still just known as the face model and writer of Max Payne. I remember finding an old Finnish website that had a series of all his short stories(one being called "A Circle of Saints"). I kind of liked the mystery behind him back then lol. You could barely even find a picture of him.
can this goofy man be ANY more likeble? just wanna hug this guys!! what a time to be alive. let's celebrate this victory and not take it for granted. Here's for Remedy and all envolved! Thank you for being weird and not selling out guys. Keep it weird and original.
Dude i want a blend of that cauldron lake coffee, ironically i had decided to make a cup of coffee at 9pm then stumbled across this humbleness and shared a cheers of coffee with the man myth and legend himself. 10/10 experience
The fact that this man has the ability to scare me enough to make me cower in fear, then lead the biggest mystery ever so I'm at the edge of my seat, and then be just a silly little guy in the span of 5 minutes is mind boggling
This man is a damn game developing genius.. I can't wait to see which twisting roads he takes us through next with his next bunch of games.. Alan Wake 2 was spectacular.. (That musical part was ... just.. wow) .. and Sam Lake is an incredible visionary who deserves awards for Alan Wake 2 .. It was a masterpiece.. I cannot wait to delve back into Max Payne with his upcoming remakes..!!
He is so humble, intelligent, fun and a wonderful writer. Incredible personality. I wish I could meet him and we can talk about games for just a few minutes.
There are a few actors/actresses that i credit Sam for knowing. Ilkka, Matt, Shawn, Courtney and more. Love Remedy. Sam seems super genuine and i have very high hopes for Remedy in the future. Max Payne was cool and fun. Was engaging. Alan Wake showcased thier story telling. Quantum Break tried to even build on that with the live action. Control nailed it. Alan Wake 2 watching them come into themselves and really hone in on thier style is just perfect. They have it and I really think they are just gonna keep continuing on with the trend. Every game they make is better than the last.
Such a goober I cried during the scene in AW where Mr. Door announces the story of The Story of the Journey of Alan Wake the Musical and he's just goofmaxxing in the bg.
Are you fucking with time? Yes. What year would you like to go back to? This year? Can you take me there now? Here we are. I dunno why, but that discussion made me certain that Sam Lake is something else :D
