I saw that live, but it really didn't hit me what was actually going on at the time. It wasn't till I saw Matt Colville's recap video that I really got it. That made me cry, because I think out of all of them, Sam is the most separate from the game. So to see just how devastated he was in that moment, it was heartbreaking.

That was heartbreaking. Just thinking about it tears me up.

You think he's the most seperate from the game ? If you ever get to rewatch it pay attention to him startin from the Briarwood arc. I actually think he, at the end at least, was the most involved in the game in some ways.

One example of that is that they call each other "husband" sometimes. In the first episode of their podcast, Liam described the first time they met as "love at first sight". (Apparently after only five or ten minutes of conversation, Liam said they should be best friends, and Sam accepted without hesitation.)

I'm not sure if you're serious or not, but if you are, they both joke all the time about being married. Basically, they're best friends, and have been for almost 15 years now.

Yeah I remember that. Sam's totally the MVP of this game, him counterspelling vecna continuously saved their bacon numerous times. I don't think he could've handled that interview after hhaahahah, he'd seen enough man. SEEN ENOUGH MAAAAAN. I wonder if they still have that Wishing Skull with the Githyanki in it. They might've banished it to that demiplane where Kraven Edge - or it was lost somewhere in Greyskull keep. I can't remember. Either way, it's gonna get interesting Thursday.

They have to do a Battle Royale before retiring their level 20s. The last one was epic, which Tary (Sam) won, and at level 20 my money would still be on Scanlan (Sam) because be thinks so far out of the box...but I would be cheering on Grog since it's just beautiful raging axe/hammer/sword joy everywhere!

Yeah I fell through the cracks a long time ago. Wish I had time to keep up. I'm not sure if I should go and watch the end or try to somehow get through it all.

It's a long road to catchup. I randomly come across episode 11 and got hooked. At that point they were already into the 70s-80s, but I watched about 4-6 episodes a week to catchup. Critical Role pays off with some incredible moments like episode 85 or 114 that blow you away with how good they are. Best entertainment available (and it's free).

Its tottaly do able, 4 hours each and 120 or so episodes.

Don't burn through them. Watch them, or listen. It's worth it

I started watching them from the beginning, but fell behind in Aug. of '16, as my job changed, and I was at work during the show. On top of this, I was working a second job, and the 4 hours was pretty much impossible to keep up with. I'd watch chunks, but quickly fell behind. I stopped until they finished the campaign. I decided to catch up before the new one. I only had 20 some episodes to plow through, but it took a bit of work. The one tip I was given that I pass on to anyone talking about catching up, is watch at 1.25 or 1.5 speed. (I usually go at 1.25 during roleplaying, and 1.5 during long combats) You get used to it, and almost don't notice it, and it really cuts down on the 4 hours (to about 2.6 hours if at 1.5) So, should you catch up, absolutely, there's amazing stuff in nearly every episode. Should you try to do it before they start the new campaign? I'd say no, as it will be disconnected enough that it shouldn't spoil anything, and you'd be cramming a lot into a short time. There are episodes, that if you're into it as much as I was, that are emotional mountains. A few times while watching live, I remember just sitting in the room in silence for 10 minutes digesting what just happened. Twice during my catch-up, I had to put it on hold because of emotional endings, and start again the next day (I usually binged hard on weekends). Plus, there are parts that you may find boring, and, if you're anything like me, you'll fall to sleep, then miss a chunk of not boring, and have to go back. Take your time, enjoy it.

Slight spoilers for ep114. I can confirm he at least still had 8th and 9th level slots left.The rest I don't recall

He would have cast it at level 8 to save his Wish if he could. He only had that 9th level slot and a few lower level slots

Also, Teleport is a 7th level spell. Only a 9th level Counterspell could automatically fizzle it without a roll contest.

"When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the interrupted spell has no effect if its level is less than or equal to the level of the spell slot you used." 7th, 8th or 9th would of worked fine if Sam had had those slots (If you're going off of Colville's video from yesterday, he realised he got the rule wrong and said so in the comments of his video)
