Seeing as there are so many people who don't get what's going on here: up until this moment Vex and Vax, half elf twins, have been looked down on by their pure elf father. In this scenario Percy forces the father to acknowledge his daughter with respect by declaring her nobility of his home, Whitestone. Nobody but Percy knew what he was about to do, hence why everyone is so shocked. It was also a partially romantic gesture that gets brought up later, because he essentially gave Vex a piece of his home, which is the most important thing in his life.
@Baron VonsFuden You have never seen a movie before have you? There are these people called actors and they can bring some entertainment to light up that dark cold and rotten heart of yours.
I love that Laura has that slow jaw-drop as she realises, but it's actually TRAVIS who loses his goddamn mind over it. Travis is the best fanboy. I bet he shipped Perc'ahlia ages ago.
I think he was the very first one, so the story goes. Travis and Laura were driving home one night, and he suggested that Vex might have a thing for Percy. Which Laura ran with until it became canon.
Because Liam hardly breaks character and Vax couldn't care less about titles or his father's opinion of them. Plus at the time Liam was in a dark place in his own life so he was brooding in general.
Before they entered Vex's Father's home, Percy asked Vex what her Father position was. She said some kind of Bureaucrat. He smiled and said perfect. Percy thumped Vex's father like a drum.
"You're in her DMs while I title her Baroness of the Third House of Whitestone and Grand Mistress of the Grey Hunt... We are not the same." -Percival Frederickstein Von Musil Kowalski De Rolo III
I thought this clip was going to be an instance where Percy dealt more than 100 points of damage in a single round.. .. and that's exactly what I found.
I've watched this gazillions of times. I always love it. Percy layed the law, vax provided the counter balance, and Vex made up her mind to spend her life with Percy 100%. Laura's reaction really seemed to be organic. Love it, love everything about it.
I love travis because you can see, In C1 with Percy and Vex and in C2 with Beau and Yasha, he always ships characters and gets so excited when the ships become cannon
@@elijaaaah even better considering he'd said he doesn't like character romance roleplay in DnD, his wife precedes to go "you get no say in this imma make you like it"
Runner up for Campaign 1 MVP is Percy. He ONLY fails it because his gunplay doesn't often have as much of an impact in encounters (Excluding his uncanny Natural 20s) as Scanlan's magic does.
To be fair if you play a bard right they can be very powerful (in and out of combat), I think a lot of people steer away from Bards because most of their spells don't do direct damage, you can't cast fireball but you can troll a band of Orcs as a distraction . . . which is way more fun
@@thefracturedbutwhole5475 You can cast fireball? One of the main shticks of bards is, magical secrets, which scalan used heavily to pick up his signature shit, last time I checked. Even more so for a lore bard, due to the 6th level feature of getting, 2 extra.
@@thefracturedbutwhole5475 I mean, Vicious mockery is so much fun. It's low damage, but allows me to come up with some clever insults lol. Plus, if you wanna be a Bard with some Damage, get the Magic Initiate Feat for warlock and get Eldritch Blast
I know that the majority of people really like this scene because of the smoothness of Percy here, and trust me I do too, but what really stood out to me was Vax's reaction. While every around him is excited and happy for Vex, Vax is disappointed with Percy for giving Vex what she thinks she needs and Vax thinks that in the long run this will only harm her not help her.
But they aren't excited and happy in character, the characters keep their composure ("well, you didn't know"). It's the players that are freaking out because Taliesin surprised them. Liam keeping his composure says more about how Liam handles suprise than about Vax's feelings at the moment (though I believe his feelings get discussed in character in a later episode).
I came back to watch before hopfully seeing it animated, I had forgoten that it had happened infront of an audiance. That makes the scene so much better
This scene really set the context for when Percy died later, after the Anna Ripley fight -- where Vex acknowledges to everyone that her heart had always belonged to Percy, even after what happened here. Watch the scene from that episode to hear Laura's heartfelt message to Percy, even though he wasn't even at the table.
@@wholesome_masochist4113 : As far as I know, these are the death counts for each member of Vox Machina, during Campaign 1 (not the animated series): Keyleth: 1 (Jumping off a cliff -- "Keyfish") Pike: 1 (pre-stream -- this is why Pike has white hair, instead of dark hair) Vex: 2 (Finger of Death from Delilah Briarwood; Triggering a trap that held the armor of the Raven Queen) Vax*: 3 (Against Sylas Briarwood; Against Hotus the Rakshasa; Strangled by Artagan) Scanlon: 1 (Against Raishan, the Diseased Deciever) Grog: 2 (Against the beholder in the Underdark, Kraghammer Arc; Killed by Craven Edge, a sentient weapon that is cursed) Percy: 2 (Against Dr. Anna Ripley; Against Raishan, the Diseased Deceiver) This does not count the times a member of VM fell unconscious and was healed within a round of falling unconscious. *Note: Vax, in the end, never truly dies, as the Raven Queen collected on the deal that Vax struck with her. Scanlan had planned on using a 9th level spell slot for Wish against Vecna, but ended up using it for Counterspelling Vecna's last 7th level Teleport spell, thus sealing Vax's fate.
I'm watching The Legend of Vex Machina, somehow (thanks google) I got a lot of recommandations of videos showing what happened with CR, and how it translated to the animated series on Prime Video, I watch them and enjoy them, and then I end up with videos that do no refer to the animated serie, and omg I love what I hear and see. I'm going to watch what Critical Role did, because it's seems awesome !!!
If I recall correctly, "Baron" is a title that doesn't require blood ties: it can be purchased or granted as a favor and basically means, "this person owns land within my domain." So it's not necessarily a romantic gesture, but definitely one of trust and loyalty. IIRC "Grandmistress of the Grey Hunt" has more to do with being the appointed hunt master for a yearly event. In conclusion: Percy granted Vex two titles that are largely ceremonial, but that Vex's asshole father has already said he'd respect. The romance came later.
Don't think so, "Grandmistress of the Grey Hunt" was basically the person in command of the Grey Hunt of Whitestone, which was like the city's advance guard. They patrolled outside the walls, dealing with threats before they became issues the rest of the city would need to deal with. Percy and Vex essentially revived it, though i might be wrong about that last bit.
You should, I mean they don’t hav anything to do with each other. What I do personally is, I watch episodes from campaign 1 (which is already finished) while I wait till Thursday for the new episodes for campaign 2 to come out. 👍
StealAJet I never noticed that! Well they do sit right next to each other. They talk now and again on air, so it's not hard to believe he didn't tell her.
Eszra apparently in the previous episode he passes a note to Laura and whispers Baroness to Marisha as he passes it. also if you watch the episode proper, look at her face when he gets Syldor to say that he'll "respect titles"...you can see the lightbulb go on
