ABSOLUTELY agree... however you must remember that a fallen Sith is a dead Sith because masters never allow their apprentices to live (and vice versa). The only proof that a fallen Sith would ruin a rogue Jedi, are the words of Darth Plagueis which explain the Sith's superiority in the force: "For a Jedi, mastery is achieved when the apprentice obtains a thorough understanding of the force; for a Sith... that is only the BEGINNING."
Yeah it’s a big part of how voice actors really get into their character and what they’re doing. Really shows how voice actors arent that different from on screen actors.
I wasn't sure about Sam voicing Maul at first, but i couldn't be happier with his performance. While Peter Serafinowicz (Maul's original voice) passed himself off as a stoic warrior, Sam passes himself of as a monster.
Bombad Jar Jar Binks what's even more amazing is that Sam was never trained as a voice actor. He did impressions as a kid to make his sick friend laugh
L0rd_Equinox My friend Jared was in a movie with Clancy. I feel so dumb but I am just now realizing it. Ha. Rad! It was Pet Cemetery 2. I am not even kidding. I didn't know Jared was in movies and we rented it and I was like wtf is that Jared? What does he NOT do? He was playing music then and had recorded my band a year prior. And I thought he was very talented at it. I wish my friend still acted and played music he was pretty good. I always liked seeing my buddies have successes. It's great. But he just nerds out with games now and I don't even think he plays music anymore. Maybe he got bored I dunno. Or maybe he still does and just doesn't talk about it because he never talked about his acting until 2014 when I saw him last and that was like nearly 20 years later! Was 1995 I think. I never brought it up because I thought he was keeping it secret as music and acting were kind of taboo. And a band I brought to him to record made jokes about it and I know he heard it and it made me feel bad. So I put their tape on a speaker so the magnet would fuck it up. I've never told anyone that. So yeah. The taboo thing. That is, to be an actor first then a musician I guess I thought was what was maybe the reason? I dunno. I guess I wouldn't talk about it either. Anyway. The guy in this video the older guy Clancy is the actor who killed his character in the movie with a motor cycle tire, it was funny. But a bad movie honestly..... Sam is great. That guy I think is on his way. He's got a lot of talent and I hope to see him in a Star Wars film as a real character of some sort. Good luck guys.
Sam made Darth Maul an enjoyable character in my opinion. Phantom Menace Maul was just a one-time, cannon fodder villain character that was meant to be forgotten, but Star Wars The Clone Wars successfully made Maul more. He became a character driven by obsession and a desire for revenge against Obi Wan Kenobi.
Well..... yes but it is kinda the same with Boba Fett... in the movies... he was only standing there and looked cool and was wasted real quick in Episode 5. thanks to the comics and books he become more then a cool looking figure....
I know this post is ancient but Ray Parks Darth Maul made the Phantom Menace what it was. A dark warrior that appeared from basically out of nowhere challenging the Queen and her entire army consisting of 2 Jedi a master and a padawan. Sam did in fact bring maul back to life. His voice acting also made the character who he was.
We all know Sam Witwer is unmatched in voice acting. But can we talk about the recording studio? Having constructive feedback between each take? Being in the booth with someone your character is actually talking to? These things aren't common in the voice acting industry, so shout out to the Clone Wars crew for being incredible as always.
1:46-2:00 I love this. “Through strength I gain power. Through power I gain victory. Through victory my chains are broken, the chains... the chains are the easy part. It’s what goes on in here *points at head* that’s hard.”
Sam's voice acting, the life he gave Maul completely captivated me. I'd literally get goose bumps when listening to some of Maul's line. Small, subtle intonations that gave the character his uniqueness. Truly a grand performance!
@@JordanWheeler1999 Yeah bud act like the god-awful decisions made by Rian and JJ weren't to blame. Disney seems to insist on those awkward Marvel-esque comedy bits but that's one car in a big ass train wreck.
@@anon4854 well he knew the risks when taking someone's scripts, yes he didnt created himself but he knew it wasnt good they were like "take this and go" kind of shit and he made it worser with bringing palpatine into the picture and ruin the skywalker's name
I love that when we first see him again he is completely strung out on the Dark Side. He can't formulate a coherent thought beyond his own immediate desires like food. But his brother's compassion, which is the cornerstone of the Light Side, drives enough of the Darkness away that he can communicate again.
Sam Witwer did the voice, motion capture and more for Starkiller. He also voiced the Emporor in the game. Most of the actors say they are huge Star Wars fans when being interviewed but Sam shows that he actually is a hardcore fan.
I first saw this guy on Smallville as Davis Bloom. It was an incredibly complex role, but he totally nailed it! Then I saw him in The Force Unleashed and I fell in love with his character once again. After that, I saw him in Supergirl. The season he was in was aweful, but he is what made me keep coming back to watch more. Now that I know he voiced Darth Maul in this show, I guess I'll have to give that a shot too. Sam Witwer is one of the most underrated actors of all time. Honestly, Disney has pissed me off with a lot of things, but the thing I hate them for the most is destroying the Force Unleashed games and declaring it all non-canon. I wanted a live-action movie or TV show or atleast another game, but Disney has destroyed that dream!
He was in the Battlestar Galactica reboot and Being Human US remake too. He's been in a heck of a lot of genre and sci fi TV shows of the past 20 years to be fair. He's defo got a good agent lol
Such a underrated actor. I didn’t realize how much of Star Wars I fell in love with because of him and all of his amazing work. Star Wars would be lost without Dave Filoni and Sam Witwer.
The purity of this guy's excitement and energy is just beautiful you can feel the depth of his love for the series and the sheer magnitude of effort he gives to the part of Maul as a whole firm handshakes my brother firm freaken 🤝
My god. I love Clancy brown and as a kid it totally flew over my head that he played Savage. After playing the Force Unleashed growing up I also felt a fondness for Sam as well. He’s basically all of us Star Wars fans who actually got to be apart of it all. Really cool and I love how he talks about geeking out about getting these types of parts haha
Really is a great voice actor. Everytime Maul spoke it was full of energy. Not just in the sreaming at times but also in the constructive plan he rambles into. His past, his plans, his desire for power... just intense
I saw all Darth Maul episodes in my native language, nicely dubbed and quite fitting, but one time I actually wanted to get ahead of TV so downloaded one season from torrents. Darth Maul showed up again and there was something familiar in his voice, some minor notes that I've heard before. I googled it and here we are. Starkiller did the voice for Darth Maul.
Sam Witwer is great in this role - his no-holds-barred approach is impressive and really pays off in terms of giving the character more psychological depth. I'm rarely interested in the voice actors, but I looked him up right away when I first heard his Darth Maul (Asajj Ventress's VA is a standout as well). It's just nice to see an American VA take his work as seriously as a thespian working in any other medium would.
Neither of these fine gentlemen are what I would have imagined the voice actors for these characters to be, which only goes to show the talent. Major props to both these guys. Absolutely loved the take on Darth Maul in Clone Wars! Especially that voice! Soft yet very menacing. It really went a long way to showing Maul as an intelligent, patient, and calculating villain.
0:09 Gotta love the ultimate love this guy has for Star Wars. Way back when, I played Force Unleashed I was blown away by how cool and God mode Starkiller was only to find out he was played by and motion cap by Doomsday himself (Smallville reference respect ✊🏻). He absolutely crushed it and those fucking trailers they did for the Force Unleashed are still one of the coolest things I have ever seen to this day. It just makes me so mad that they scrapped the expanded universe and all of it's rich and badass history...for Reylo 🤦♀️ Gosh seeing Clancy Brown and Sam standing next to each other and hearing them as brothers....beyond cool man. Sam ALWAYS was super respectful for this franchise and of course was a huge fan himself so he acted accordingly making sure to keep the ultimate care into whatever he was doing...as one should when working on such a beloved and universal known franchise such as this (insert my absolute hate and disgust with the hag that is Kathleen Kennedy Star Wars biggest mistake). Gosh I love Sams own speculation of Maul and where his mindset would be... 1:44 that monologue man...it unhinged me when I first heard it. Love this guys devotion. Thanks Sam 🙌🏻
Damn he is good... the emotion, the way he brings across the agony and madness, how tense and unresting. You really feel every ounce of pain, hate and anger. It chills you to the core
I never noticed the sith code before. then again it was 6 years ago I was younger. sam witwer is the best voice actor imo followed by Clancy brown. man Clancy brown is in SOOO many things.
sam read a few stories in the audiobook version of "from a cirtain point of view" empire strikes back, and the ones read by him were probably my favorites in that book. he really is an incredible voice actor.
Couldn’t have picked a better man for the role, dude not only played a fantastic video game character, but is a complete super fan of the series and knew exactly what to do
Robo_Destroyer / Darth Troller Not going to lie, but I for one would completely lose it if I saw Witwer in a mainstream Star Wars movie. And I have to agree, I could totally see him as a Knight of Ren.
If Star Wars: The Clone Wars is cannon then that means Darth Maul is still alive since Palpatine never actually killed him at the end of the series right?
After the clone wars got cancelled, there were still supposed to be a bunch of storyarcs. One of those was done in comicbook form ("son of Dathomir", it's pretty good, give it a read) and the others are now hinted at in star wars rebels and the Ahsoka novel. Also, Maul came back in star wars rebels! It seems like he's searching for Obi-wan now
Getting to work beside the legend that is Clancy Brown, and the way they clearly play off each other, must have made this all so much more fun for Sam Witwer. The smile on Dave Filoni's face, he knew absolutely that the right performers had been cast for these parts.
I not going to lie i wish this guy was darth maul in the movie we need a darth maul movie this guys voice is good and game he did the motion capture for the force unleashed and his own stunts.
I got to meet Sam today, at the Sci-Fi Expo in Dallas, and we talked about this for a few minutes. He said he didn't study Ray Park very much for inspiration, but rather Peter Serafinowicz, who dubbed Ray's lines in "Phantom Menace".
