@@sampat10 I didn’t say anything about blame. I’m a determinist and a moral antirealist. I just think it’s true that there would inevitably be different people wanting and expecting different things out of it. I wouldn’t be surprised if you were the kind of person who would see being a sensitive snowflake as an insult, which is incredibly ironic, because the second someone acknowledges the general existence of opinions like yours, you just crumble into a pile of bad faith assumptions about what they were saying.
I appreciate Sam's comment about the fact that the prequels are better for having been thematically ambitious (while falling short at times) than having been just fun popcorn affects driven flicks.
24:36 "I would rather have a movie that had it's Thematic Heart in the right place and _really_ had something to say, than a charming effects reel." *TROS has left the chat* Oh, I love this man so much. To me, he seems like the kind of guy that only speaks when he genuinely knows what he's talking about, and he just _gets it._
It is December 21st, 2019. The last film of the Disney Star Wars Trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker, has released. The Disney Trilogy never dropped the ball, because it never picked up the ball. Listening to Sam Witwer describe all the things Episode 7 needed to have, I found myself only thinking "Gee, none of that occurs at all".
Sam is a class act. Honestly Disney could of use Sam as Galen/ Starkiller in the flesh (in real life) on the theater screen. Starkiller “(episode 3.5 /rogue one ) just like the “Force unleashed 1. Great interview!
Witwer with his points to my eyes depicted it as the Prequels having thematic Heart with something to say, meanwhile Disney’s Star Wars trilogy having been a Charming effects reel. Aside from the movies However, stuff like Mandolorian and Fallen order treat their stories properly and Thematically serve a purpose, not just some Footage of Random effects expected to entertain for a few hours.
I agree completely agree with what Sam says in the video about the prequels having thematic heart, and I agree that the Mandalorian felt just as powerful in that aspect. I have yet to play Fallen Order though, and seeing as you have good tastes and went out of your way to watch a Sam Witwer interview I think I could trust your opinion. If you don'd mind me asking, would you recommend the game at full price? I love other stuff by Chris Avellone but I still have a hard time trusting an EA game despite the good reviews. Also, I was wary about the pre-order bonuses but those seem are apparently available in-game for everybody thanks to a recent patch.
Velcro oh believe me Fallen Order is a great game and embodies much of what makes adventure games so great. I highly suggest it, just be wary that their is not much to do after you complete the story aside from exploring the planets and discovering Easter eggs.
@@Fi_Sci_ Alright, cool. Thanks for giving me your opinion! I'll probably get it some time in the next month or so when I have time to play. I wasn't aware Easter eggs were a focus of the game so I'll be on the lookout when I'm playing.
Velcro glad I could help 👍🏻 Easter eggs are not necessarily the main focus in fallen Order... But if you have knowledge of things like the Clone Wars show, and Star Wars stuff in general, you will be pleasantly surprised what you can find if you look closely. Just be mindful that you won’t be able to access all the areas at once, that requires special skills.
10:41 “Me and Yoda, we talked about it, we thought it was a possibility because you’re two good looking kids but we *seriously* didn’t see that coming” I refuse to imagine Kenobi said this any other way
Im so jealous that he got a friend who never seen any star wars at all to watch them and was actually into watching them. Ive tried with people before and they gave it a chance from the get go.
In the context of showing it to kids, kids won't know who Vader is, and the image that appears for 2 seconds will make no sense to them, so they'll forget it.
You could easily think that it´s foreshadowing his death if you don´t know the context. Only the bits that really are directed at Anakin are the problem ("Please, Anakin." "You were my brother, Anakin!") but with only knowing "A New Hope" it won´t click.
24:42-24:52 I would rather have a movie that had its thematic heart in the right place and really had something to say than a charming effects reel. (c) Damn, hearing this after a sequel trilogy just makes me sad...
This show is literally the best! In the short time you guys have been broadcasting, you have come to be #2 on my list of favorite subscribed channels (#1 being Good Mythical Morning). It's so great to have a quality Star Wars talk show on RU-vid, hosted by Lucasfilm employees and Star Wars alumni! I look forward to what the Comlink has in the future!
Loved this interview! Sorry it was so long ago and I'm just now seeing it... oops. Loved hearing about Dave Guintoli getting introduced to Star Wars! I loved Dave in Grimm, and his movies I've seen. Now, how can we get him a part in Star Wars? Guest shot in The Mandalorian or Kenobi?? hehe
I'm really glad that we have ushered in a new era od Star Wars appreciation in which the number of nostalgia stricken prequel hating couch potatoes has fallen drastically.
I really really tried to give the finale a chance, but I was cringing so hard with my face in my palms at the end scene of episode 9 "Rey Skywalkah" AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Crazy thing is, his face is so familiar and i looked for movies that he had been in and there was nothing i remember, until i thought, he looks a lot like the guy from force unleashed, crazy good from the game designers to be able to replicate him that well
The first time I watched Star Wars I watched (2021) in chronological order (Main Movie) from Episode I It’s cool to here people seeing form different orders etc.
26:13 I hope I did this when I went into the Last Jedi... That film is the only one of the new ones that is somewhat thematically sound. 27:35 So true...
I Grew up with Star Wars so I started with 456 then I went to 123 and then the clone wars and then Rebels I Saw the prequels first before the clone wars because I was Born in 1999 we Didn’t have clone wars when I was a kid the only clone wars I had as a kid was that 2003-2005 show I Grew up with the special editions on a two Disc set and when I turned 16 I Read a comment on RU-vid saying hey on Disc two is the original version of the films so I watched the whole original trilogy the theatrical version
Vader’s final “NO” in Jedi, should’ve been a very low pitched, low volume, very angry, short , definitive and introspective as if saying to himself “I’ve had enough. No more. -No.” as he finally realizes Palpatine has played him the whole time. Instead of the long, sad and wimpy “Noooo!!!” (Don’t kill my baby!) that we got.
I feel like it should be episode 1 and 2. Then all of Star Wars the clones wars. The episode 3. Then episode 4, 5 and 6. Then episode 7, 8, then 9. But this theory is pretty dope.
Dawg, for five hours I combed through all four of sam's force unleashed streams looking for what order to watch the films in for my lil bro and then I find this. Fuck me. Fuck me.
Watching clone wars now, you'd get the "Anakin is Darth Vader" spoiler... so i think that in this very moment, the best watching order is 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, clonewars, rebels
Correct order for me is 4, 5, 1, 2, Clone Wars seasons 1-6, season 7 - stop before the 4 final eps, 3 , final 4 eps of Clone Wars season 7, Star Wars Rebels, 6, The Mandalorian. Rogue One would technically be the first one before 4, but it would be confusing so watch it out of order when all's finished.
For the questions towards the end… the answer is no, it had none of what Sam Witwer said. Also the fact that Lawrence Kasden, the man who wrote empire, was writing ep7 and fucked it up big time, with no planning across the trilogy was just appalling
It's interesting to see this now! Sam's bang on. It's unreal how much myth, history + spirituality is in those 6 Lucas film's! Man vs technology! Balance! Destiny vs choice! State authoritie's using crisis' to control with "emergency" powers! The polar us vs them mentality that politic's deploy! I was wondering the same thing's at the time, once George was gone it was like uh-oh! A lot of what's in the prequel's is misunderstood by fan's + is missed now. These new film's dance to a different, ideological tune. But I did go in to enjoy TFA. You can enjoy the OT as fun film's or feel them on a deeper level. I enjoy TFA more as just a fun film. But with each new episode, it *felt* more + more like something pretending to be SW's! If fan's think George had issue's as a screenwriter? Well, what d'ya think now after the ST tried to tie up all the loose ends? Just because the action, drama + dialogue is polished, "mature" or intellectual doesn't make it more meaning or feeling-ful! With or without the impersonation's, it's a joy to hear Sam talk about Star Wars. He's so passionate that it seem's he's conscious of reigning himself in at times, so as to not take over. He know's a lot that's for sure. I remember bathing with the Princess Leia shampoo as a tot. Awesome!
I love how he wears a cobra kai merch and this was before the cones kai show he is a true nerd not some celebrity who says their a massive nerd just to be funny
I feel like Sam is saying George wrote a story too good for 3 movies. Theres no time to break down everything such as the politics, the spirituality, philosophy, morality, etc in 3 movies. Unlike 7 seasons of a show where you have time for anything.
If they made a movie for the team who stole the plan for the death star, they need to make a movie of the last member for the family whose seal has become the symbol of the resistance. *cough* Galen* cough*
