This takes me back to 1978 a 13 year old laying on her bed listening to the radio and looking at her poster of John Travolta as Vinnie Barbarino! Thanks for the memories trip Jamel!
Samantha Sang was so lucky to have a Bee Gees written song gifted to her. The Bee Gees were on fire in the late 70's. The Bee Gees version is beautiful as well. Barry layered the background harmony in his amazing falsetto voice for Samantha Sang. Great reaction.
Barry Gibb did sing background and harmony on this track. His distinctive voice can clearly be heard. At the time, anything and everything by (or sounding like) the BeeGees was a big hit. Same thing happened with Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, and Michael McDonald to various degrees in later years. Destiny's Child also released a version of this song in 2001 and took it to #10 in the USA and #3 in the UK.
I LOVE the look on your face @ 2:28 ! When the Bee Gees started the backup vocals! And disco days were the best, dancing dancing and dancing allll the time! Where is there to go dance now? Love ya!
Ahhhhh, man… so many memories. Slow dancing in a school gym, satin tops, Farrah Fawcett hair & loads of AquaNet lol Our town had a teen disco; my husband never lets me live that down😂 Life was so much simpler… we just didn’t know it. I ordered some skates about 6mths ago! Turns out it’s NOT like riding a bike🤣 But I suspect the neighbors had a few good laughs. Thanks for the ride in your Time Machine!! Stay safe & love much💖
I am surprised you haven’t reacted to The Bee Gees “Love you inside out”. It has a wicked arrangement and one if their best sound/rhythm of all their great songs. It has an endless funky beat. Look it up and you will definitely enjoy it.
Samantha Sang’s version is the one I knew first. The local music shows were so excited - an Aussie girl singing a Bee Gees written song and with them doing backing vocals.
Manytimes, bros.Gibb worked for or even together with female artists, giving songs to them. 'Morning Of My Life' in 1967 Esther Ofarim, I think was the first one.
The Bee Gees and Andy Gibb were ALL brothers and of the few, if only, who embraced funk, soul and R&B and we're successful for it. So, they prove no matter a person's skin color, it comes from within one's soul. You've got to appreciate their mark on the World their music left. No matter the skin color of listeners of their music, their music goes past color. Exhibit A.
I love Samantha Sang and I love the Bee Gees but this was the version I was introduced to back in the day and the one I'm partial to. You couldn't go anywhere without hearing it and YES, it was hot in the skating rinks! Thanks for bringing back the beautiful memories of my HS days! Love your channel and keep doing you!👍❤
Yes, That is correct that Barry Gibb is the only one doing the background vocals. But since Maurice and Robin Gibb have passed away now most people consider Barry alone as the Bee Gees but that is not exactly true. Barry was always known for hitting the high notes very well in their songs and sometimes his voice kinda drowned out the other brothers voices occasionally.
WOW. This takes me way back to when I was in grammar school. Time flies but the memories remain. AGAIN. WOW. Thank You so much JAMEL. I was bumping along with You this morning. Love and Respect always.
Watching Jamel listen to a great song for the first time has become one of life’s simple pleasures! I grew up listening to ALL of this great music everyday on the radio and I suppose we all just took it for granted that it would always be that way. Thanks Jamel! 😊🙏
Bee gees were backing vocal, you can hear Barry especially…Bee Gees really we’re not a disco group, they were R & B, that got labeled that. Samantha was from Australia and was big down under. The Bee Gee wrote lots of songs that others recorded…just amazing.
The Bee Gees were all over the charts in 1977/78 on the heels of Saturday night fever. They could have released Mary had a little lamb and would've gone to #1. As for Emotion, the Bee Gees were all over that recording, lol
This brings back so many good memories of the 70s. Samantha Sang had an album out then which I bought after listening to this song. Good listening music. You don't get the Bee Gees to do the backing for just anyone. Your reaction was outstanding. Thanks Jamel!
When this song was out the Bee Gees we're the hottest thing going with back to back to back to back #1 hits. The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack was breaking sales records and the Bee Gees had hits with Samantha Sang, Andy Gibb and Frankie Valli around this time. They were on fire in 1977-1979.
Their version is included on their album CHILDREN OF THE WORLD, and is one of the few songs from that period that features Robin on lead vocals. It is a must hear gem!!!!
@@dp3396 I looked it up. Yvonne's version was released as a single the same month as the Bee Gees version was released on album. Both acts were under Robert Stigwood. It's a strong possibility that it was written for her or at least Stigwood or even the Bee Gees themselves thought it would be a good song for her to record.
Jamel, I have been trying to get the Rob Squad to react to this for over a year cause we both know how crazy about the Bee Gees he is lol Hopefully he will see this and decide to react to it. You know he'll love it. Glad to see you do this one. Barry does a beautiful job blending with Samantha Sang on this one. She should rightfully be the Bee Gee sister just because she sounds so darned good with them! Hard to tell them apart at times. Top notch reaction as usual. Love to see you doing this again! I've missed you!
This shows you how your memory can lie! I would have Sworn on a stack of bibles that this was part of the 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack! It's definitely the Bee Gees singing the chorus, and that's the part that always resonated with me. If she had been on 'Soul Train', I would have remembered better! LOL!!
I’m right with you on that - I could’ve sworn it was used in the movie. (Apparently it was recorded for it, but never used, so was released separately.)
High school for me - this was a 'girls song' lol We really didn't get into disco, we were more AC/DC, Skynyrd and Southern rock but I did get talked into taking disco dance lessons by an attractive female. If she asked me today, I'd do it again.. ; )
I work at a TV station in my area and our radio counterpart was on three wings of our building on the second floor and the master control was in the fourth wing of the building. When radio was moving out they set a whole bunch of vinyl for the taking near the elevators and I found a copy of this album in pristine condition. There's no surface noise at all and I have a good turntable setup and it sounds phenomenal.
The first time I heard this in 7th Grade (1977) I almost cried it was so beautiful. This was one of the first song I slowed danced to with a pretty girl. What a great, different time!
Coincidentally this was on my SiriusXM earlier today (not an advertisement....I don't work for them or in that industry at all, and won't earn a penny regardless of what you do). Had to turn it way the heck up! Always loved this song.
Written by Barry and his late brother Robin Gibb of The Bee Gees. It was produced by Barry, Albhy Galuten, and Karl Richardson. Barry also sang background on it with Samantha. This was during the midst of their “Saturday Night Fever” historic fame.
Barry (& sometimes with the twins’ as well) was an extremely busy guy during that period of time….between writing-recording-producing their own stuff and for Samantha Sang, Yvonne Elliman, SNF, Grease, & bringing Andy over to jumpstart his career…..plus keeping up with their families & traveling🎼!!
Yes, This is an under- appreciated version with Samantha Sang I'm the one that requested that Jamel do a reaction to this since I knew he would enjoy Samantha's smooth singing voice. This song was popular during the disco era and during the time of the Star Wars movie craze at the time.
Even Alice Cooper liked The Bee Gees. They wrote solid songs and did painstaking studio work for their harmonies. Lots of rockers secretly or not so secretly like them. Check out the Dee Gees, aka, Foo Fighters.
Jamel, Thanks for doing my request and yes that is the Bee Gees singing only on the backup or background vocals. Samantha sings the lead vocals on this song. The Bee Gees actually are the ones that wrote the song but Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees liked Samantha's voice on the lead vocals better so they decided to have her sing the lead vocals on the song. The Bee Gees did record their own version of this song but Samantha's version did the best on the music charts at the time. Samantha has other songs you may want to check out also but I don't think those were big hits like this song. It's known as kinda a slow dance disco song. Thanks again.
I graduated from High School in 1975 during the disco era and I actually hear it from younger members of my family who say "Did they really wear that stuff in 1975?? I said, "Yes they did, and isn't it weird knowing that the up coming generations are going to say, "Did you see what they wore back it 2022?? They had to think about that one for a second, lol....
Hey, Jamel! It's been awhile since I've heard this song. I had forgotten how near perfect the production could be on a Bee Gees song, which is basically what this is. No complaints. Sang has a fine voice. And this is a really good song, perfect for its era. Peace out, J. ☮️ ✌🏼
I’ve always wished this had been put out as a duet of Barry and Samantha Sang. Please react to the TAVARES cover of MORE THAN A WOMAN for Saturday Night Fever.
A friend mine just told me about a singer named Geoff Castellucci, he has the deepest voice I've ever heard. I heard him sing 16 Ton's by Tennessee Ernie Ford, Big Bad John by Jimmy Dean, God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman, his voice is incredible

Definitely backing vocals. I've never seen this video. The Gibbs brothers wrote a lot of songs for other artists that people don't realize. It's only the ones they actually did a version of that you think, what a second, lol. Example, Yvonne Elliman did "If I Can't Have You" for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. The Bee Gees have their version as well (b-side of Stayin Alive) but Yvonne's was used in the movie. (Our Love) Don’t Throw It All Away was written by Barry and the Bee Gees recorded it for the SNF soundtrack but it didn't make the cut. Andy did his version of it for his debut album and then the Bee Gees released their version on their greatest hits album a year later.
Barry was the only one that sang background on it with Samantha. He wrote it with his late brother Robin. He produced it with Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson.
I had never heard of Samantha Sang, but when this comes on the car radio it was NOT coming up the BeeGees and I was sooooo confused! Lol! I was born in 1970 so I was just a kid when this came out, guess I just assumed it was the boys. Such great harmonies!♡♡♡
FINALLY!!!! Somebody (and it HAD to be YOU!) is reacting to this awesome song .. w/the BeeGee's singing background... SUPERB SONG, SMOOOOOTH 🔥🔥🔥. As they say in the land of AUS "Good on Ya, Mate!! Luv watching you jam!! 🎶🙌🏻😉
I had to look it up. Barry and Robin Gibb wrote the song. So i guess it is a Bee Gees song. I'm guessing they wrote the song for her to support the Australian music scene.
I remember this song came out first, I knew the Bee Gees wrote it. I'm requesting for you to react to Emotions BEST OF MY LOVE 1977. I would appreciate it. Mahalo❤️😎🌴🤙
