Another great video! I wasn't sure which game you were going to give the edge to. You kept me guessing til the end. Also I haven't played this game for SNES since we reviewed it. When you compared graphics and sound my anxiety went up. Playing this game gave me some weird PTSD. God it was hard.
Thanks, fellas! And, yeah, it's a tough one. And I honestly disagree with you guys, I think Ghouls 'n' Ghosts is better than Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts, but I love them both, despite the difficulty.
On The Stick, this is one of my first times watching your videos and I must say. I really like your content, dog. Your Ninja Gaiden and Ghouls N Ghosts videos really got me intrigued. Plus, the iceing on the cake, unlike James Rolfe of Cinemassacre, you don't curse like a bastard so you are pleasant to listen to.
That old super ghouls and ghost comercial brings me memories, i only saw it once on tv as a kid, but it made me want to buy a snes and the game as well which eventually i did.
i just played through the first few levels of the gba version, and it seems damn near identical to me. usually the gba version of snes games i've played are a significantly inferior in both graphics and sound, but with this game they did a great job bringing it to the gba. from the first 3 levels it feels to me the the gba has quite a bit less slowdown. even though the snes version does still have slightly better visuals and sound, i think i may slightly prefer the smoother gameplay of the gba version, not entirely sure yet.
Bro, I really enjoy your videos!! They are amazing!! I've been a fan of G&G, since I first played it on the NES when I was a kid. I've been playing Super Ghouls and Ghosts with the fastRom hack. All I can say is, Wow!!! It's hard to go back to the regular game after playing that. You should try it.. Anyway, stay awesome!! 🤩👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
6:15 -- yeah for real, considering the box art depicts Arthur with a sword AND a cape on his regular armour (also said regular armour having his face concealed).. Also game: the Cape and face containment are on the GOLD armour and no sword is to be found WTF?
Good video, I got this and final fight the christmas after I bought with my allowance the base snes model. I got through the game once, didn't know how to beat it again at the time and just said oh well and went back and played it when I wanted. The slowdown was a pain, but the presentation is still awesome on the snes. I didn't know the gba version was out there, but yeah on that system some snes ports were harsh in some areas. I think the snes main strengths was its 32,000 plus color palette and that amazing sound chip. If the snes version had a save feature on it or password to start the second quest would been nice. Still a classic and one my early games on the snes.
It's like they are muxing the same audio from the 8 Channels into a 4 Channels sound directly and the result is 2 sound channels in each of the 4 GBA channels and a muffled outcome.
I just bought the gameboy advance version yesterday on my Wii u, it's awesome. It has more and different levels. The sega genesis one is good to. The remake of ghouls n ghost comes out February 25 2021. Looks great on the nintendo switch. I'm definitely buying that game. The psp vita ghouls n ghost is also amazing
Yeah, SNES version is good, but let's talk about the final boss of the game Astaroth. No, not Sardius (or Sammael in Japanese version) that's not even a boss, with how easy he is some could say that his fight looks like a cutscene with a gameplay.(You know, like those fights in the game where you cannot win or cannot lose.) Anyway, the second encounter with Astaroth and his more powerful green form must be one of the most frustrating and almost to impossible things I've ever seen in any video game. I'm pretty sure that all the bosses from Dark Souls are looking at this s@%t-f%@k of a bossfight and say "Nope, nah, I'm not doing this! I want our game to be hard as balls but beatable!" The first problem is that this level has NO checkpoints and if you look carefully you'll notice that it is composed of three sections. Somewhere in between there is a Red Reemur and the chance of loosing your armor here is 90%, because of that STUPID F%!^@&G S^@TY SHORT RANGED BRACELET THAT I HATE WITH ALL OF MY GUTS!!! What's worse you have to use that "Absolutely brilliant weapon" the whole level including the bossfight with Asteroth and if you accidently lose it (and you WILL) you'll have to find it in chests because without it the game wouldn't let you go to the final boss. Remember how chests work in this game? Good, cause now you have to open the chests in this way: Green Armor, Weapon, Golden Armor, Shield, Bracelet; and dont' even THINK about breaking this sequence, cause if you do, goodbye bracelet. And a bossfight oh man, Asteroth has two forms each requires around 20 hits. That's 40 HITS IN TOTAL. And with how "majestic" the bracelet works, the only way for you to win this fight is to be as cautious as possible and start attacking only when you are sure that it's safe...That's what I've said, IF IT WASN"T FOR THAT TIME LIMIT!!! Now that's EVIL AND UNFAIR. There is no way that THIS could be beaten with skill, NO with it's structure it all goes down to one and one thing only you have to rely PURELY ON YOUR LUCK to beat this trash. The whole game is based around your skill, memory and reflexes with a bit of luck to it. But this final section before Sardius oh no, only your luck can help you here, and that's NOT F*&^#%G OKAY!!! What's worse the fight with Sardius after this section, is very easy. It's like the game is saying. "Congrats on taking down that hard as balls prefinal boss. Now here you go, final boss which...is even easier than the first boss of the game, you can kill him less than in 10 seconds and get NO satisfaction at all for beating him. Are you happy? No? Well sucks to be you than, haha! So long sucker, HAHAHAHAHAH!!!" In conclusion the game is good, but that has to be ONE OF THE WORST FINALES OF THE GAME EVER!!!
Yeah, he's frustrating, but I feel like the big thing really is the time limit. He's not that tough on his own, because you can avoid most of his attacks by going into that little trough in front of him, it's just that it's hard to get close and do a lot of damage, so the time limit is what gets you.
“Killing Demons In Your Underwear... AGAIN!” Is the title of my autobiography, coincidentally To clarify: I don’t kill demons in my underwear. The demons keep wearing them so I have to kill them to get them back. It’s a struggle.
Same Name, Different Game I hadn’t thought of that. I just went from church to church dunking my briefs straight into the font. Needless to say, I’m excommunicated now
Ghouls n' Ghosts on the Sega Genesis was the pinnacle of the series for me. I had a Genesis and Ghouls n' Ghosts in 1989 and I loved it. I wound up getting Super Ghouls n' Ghosts with my Snes in 1991. I loved it as well...but not as much. The slow down was a bit much on the Snes. At any rate, I thoroughly enjoyed the series but the second game was my favorite. "Children of the 16-bit generation..." yes to this. I agree completely with this sentiment. Sega and Nintendo sound designers did some truly amazing things with limited hardware. Anyone questioning this should check out these games and Streets of freaking Rage 1+2...we will forget 3 exists. I disagree with you on the graphics front. Lost immersion from bad graphical fidelity will pull me out of a game faster than sound ever will. I'm the guy that purchased not one but two PSPRO's and two Xbox One X's for gaming in HDR 4K. I like a good sounding game but I take graphics over sound...just one man's opinion.
@@SameNameDifferentGame I think I got this game confused with the latest entry? Digital Foundry did a review of it and said the new game had a health bar I think? Something anyway that allowed you to take more than one or two hits.
@@pferreira1983 oh, yeah, on the lower difficulties you can take more hits. So I suppose on Page and Squire, that one probably is easier than this one?
On the Stick I am gonna get the GBA one on my Wii U i like the arrange mode. The GBA version and SNES are both on. But the Wii U allows Screen Smoothing and Pixel perfect modes to the graphics. The Screen Smoothing makes everything look less pixelated and the Pixel Perfect mode makes them the proper sizes i will get the SNES one on my 3DS and Snes Mini Do you think this makes it worth it? I like the GBA's features and i LOVE an extra challenge. i'd love to know your thoughts
For my part, I HATE the screen smoothing features. I like sharp pixels and I tend to think the smoothing just looks like someone smeared Vaseline all over the screen. But, yeah, I think the GBA version on Wii U is absolutely a great choice.
@@SameNameDifferentGame personally i like it smoothed out so it can look more like animation. i mean sharp pixels are ok and all but i like being able to admire how the game can look in its full potential without any noticable pixels. it may make it look a litle blurry but the shading tends mix well together for me. but thats MY view thanks for your input! what do you think of Pixel Perfect also?
@@AxlTheScourge I tend to try for the proper aspect ratio (usually 4:3) and I think "pixel perfect" is the option that uses square pixels, so I'm often not a fan. However, in the case of the GBA, I think that setting is consistent with the correct aspect, so I'm for it.
@@SameNameDifferentGame One last thing? i wanna get the Capcom Classics on my PS2 to PLAY the Arcade versions of the first two games. i heard you cant have a save state and come back to the game. i wish i could. i will get the ps2 collection but i just wanted to make it easier on me with a save feature. do you know if this is true
This has always been a game I hated, even when using restore points on the Wii U VC. Mainly because the levels go on for way too long and feel cheaper compared to the arcade versions of the two prior games, along with the fact that I was an idiot back in 2013 when playing this game and actually thought you needed to use the bracelet from start to finish of the second quest, leading to so many save states being used that I got bored with this game. I feel if it kept some of the high score charm from the originals (the main reason I play the two arcade games is to improve my scores) it would have been great but ATM it seems that the game is just a mixed bag, at least IMO. Still better than the godawful Micronics NES game though
I am so terrible at the Ghosts and Goblins games. like, all of them. They are my greatest gaming foe. I've gotten to the second level a handful of times and that's about it. Super Ghouls and Ghosts is great though. I should get a copy. Sold my PS1 Capcom Collection recently which was a dumb move.
They're super tough, and definitely one of the things I point to when people complain about games like Dark Souls being so hard (though it's a different kind of difficulty).
Ha, that's weird, I guess it's alphabetical by system, maybe? But it's a unique version, so it's worth checking out, but I'd still play the SNES version first.
I only had enough money for the one, so I'm stuck with just it. They were probably sorted by console or release date on my search results. I'd been curious about the game since it was featured on Nick Arcade regularly but never chosen.
Oh, yeah, I know that feel. It's still fun. Check out the SNES port when you get a chance, but roll with the GBA. It doesn't make the game bad or anything (but the music is way worse).
Eh. I didn't think so playing them separately, but side-by-side I think you can really hear the difference. It's not terrible, but I think it's a lot worse than the SNES.
Maxim Ukhin how is it the worst? The GBA sucks ass and it always will compared to the superior SNES. I bet you're that one millenial kid who never grew up with a super nintendo and only had a GBA growing up lol.
