I could hardly watch the stabbing part for fear that you would cut yourself :-) Now; the correct sami method is to place the wide end of the handle between your pinky and your ring finger. With a firm grip your hand will not slide forwards and on to the blade. When chopping place the wide part between your middle finger and the ring finger. Then you will chop more efficciently with a litte flick of the wrist, and the knife will not fly out of your hand. Best regards from the high north :-)
My saami relatives make traditional saami knives. They make everything from scratch: handforged blades, they even have slaughtered the reindeer by themselves and uses its antlers to make a handle of (sometimes mixed with different kinds of wood). There is a ton of work and love behind every knife and every detail in them. My father earned his and its still his nr 1 knife since like 30 years back, tho its well used and worn down theres not too much left of the blade, but beauty like this you dont throw away. Next time ill visit my relatives up north ill get my knife. By the way, love your channel.
Well there you go brother. Great review. it is a rat tail tang and the steel is "unknown" since Strømeng doesn`t want to share that info with anyone. It is a trusty big old knife. As we said in our review I have had mine for so long i can hardly remember when i got it anymore. Glad you liked it and used it. I understand it is a collectors item for you but it is made to be used :) Keep it up bro. btw it has a "military" version which has a fingerguard. I might send you one of those this year too bro. Snake
Damn nice blade. Where can a poor, white, goat rancher buy one of those bad boys? I'd probably put that one away to give to the grandkid when he gets bigger.
the sami often caried 2 knifes one big and one smal 4-5 ich ince blade that big one that you use was for claring bushes batoning and help whit butchering the reindeer the smaler one was used to everyting else just a short history lexion ;)
Hi Tac. Nice to see you do a test of a old frend of mine, Had one of those when I did service in the north. it is a knife I used to everything except to wipe my behind haha .. But it IS a very good all rounder. And again thanks for a good vid..
Got one from my grandpa one of the first things i tried was seeing how good it would cut so i tried it on my leg worked just like a razor shit these are sharp
ive had this knife for a cpl months and love just to look at it lol its a piece of art, it took me a while to find one w/ that traditional sheath, others were plain leather...it is a full tang but no way compares to my trusty trailmaster keep up the good work bro love ur vids
What's up Tac? Been following your channel for a little while now, I find you are one of the few youtubers I watch consistently. Love the material you put up, keep doing what you're doing. Keep it real brother!
Nothing like swinging a razor sharp knife while standing on ice! It is a beautiful knife, but I suspect would make a great camp knife. Food prep (cutting beef jerky for real men) would be easy, and that scandi grind makes it a great cutter. I would like to have one, but it is so pretty I probably wouldn't use it. LOL Thanks for sharing it with us Tac.
I got my Sami knife from Strømeng while I was in the Norwegian Army in 1999. Still have it. Still a very good knife. It's safe to say it's made to last, even when subjected to such harsh treatment as shown here.
Hey tac good to see you msking more vids again I just picked up a zt 0200 so ill try to make a video on that and I wish I had a knife to send as a contribution but keep busting them vids out man your one cool dudec
According to their website, Stromeng knives are not made of stainless steel. Therefore, this knife cannot be made out of 12C27 Sandvik as you mentioned in this video because 12C27 is a stainless steel.
"samekniver" are knives meant to be used hard, they are great, no idea how many campfires i have chopped with them. scandi grind rocks when it comes to performance :) great video mate, stay frosty and get out there and play with some gravity ;)
Nice vid love that old school look of it and Tac u should try a oxhead axe made in Germany like the 35 inch felling axe only 114 bucks would love to see a ten chop test on it but I don't think it will split well thanks Tactical.
Say Heah Tac't, Pulling on my Vintage Gurka Shaggy Cigar and washing it down with a Diet Pepsi, Watching this video and remembering when I got mine. This video prompt me to get my Steomeng KS-9, Sara Dreaming (what ever happened to her) and you, You, Potlicker, Got your's as gift's grrrrrrr, Well I bought mine. But I also got the KS-5 and the Bhuku STAK. Man It's the lightest nevk knife I have. That's how I use my Stromeng bhuku, It's a 3 1/2" Puuku, But real lite. Infact it's a copy of the knife all participating Olympian's got that participated in the Winter Olympics that year. a real nice Puuku and it matches we'll with my KS-9. The KS-5 is also a Leuku but suggested fir smaller hand's. But I use it mostly for food prep when we go out. All the Stromeng Knives shorter than 7" are stainless in the 12c27. That's the steel Ice Skate blade's are made from. and Mora uses that in their stainless blade's too. Anhow, Lemme check out smote video:s, Nice to see you again.,,.
Hey Tac, did you say how much this costs? This knife looks very similar to a Finnish Knife that was given to me from my grandfather years ago, called a pukko. I remember when I first got the knife, I checked the sharpness and it cut my thumb. I could do the same thing to my Rambo knife and it never cut me.
cool video... have you experienced any tear on the knife since making this video from chopping wood like you do towards the end there? hear it's a rat tail tang so...
I feel this is the best tang configuration for a heavy chopping knife as the tang is kept away from your hands and I've used dozens of Billhooks like this very heavily and not broke one yet.
Good vid. Either the knife is real strong or you are getting weaker, cause you couldn't break it, LOL............. I like the old school look. Looks like good stuff.
Scandinavian Huntsman not mine. My knife pretty much same size, and It's as fuck. My grandfather got it when he was like 20 years old, few years after the Winter war, and it has awesome reindeer sled engraved on it.
All Scandinavian knives, of this design have one serious flaw, in common. No hilt and/or finger guard. The handle is smooth wood, oftentimes lacquered. When your hand gets wet on that handle, watch out...
