Dick Cavett has been nominated for eleven Emmy awards (the most recent in 2012 for the HBO special, Mel Brooks and Dick Cavett Together Again), and won three. Spanning five decades, Dick Cavett’s television career has defined excellence in the interview format. He started at ABC in 1968, and also enjoyed success on PBS, USA, and CNBC.

His most recent television successes were the September 2014 PBS special, Dick Cavett’s Watergate, followed April 2015 by Dick Cavett’s Vietnam. He has appeared in movies, tv specials, tv commercials, and several Broadway plays. He starred in an off-Broadway production ofHellman v. McCarthy in 2014 and reprised the role at Theatre 40 in LA February 2015.

Cavett has published four books beginning with Cavett (1974) and Eye on Cavett (1983), co-authored with Christopher Porterfield. His two recent books -- Talk Show: Confrontations, Pointed Commentary, and Off-Screen Secrets (2010) and Brief Encounters: Conversations, Magic moments, and Assorted Hijinks(October 2014) are both collections of his online opinion column, written for The New York Times since 2007. Additionally, he has written for The New Yorker, TV Guide, Vanity Fair, and elsewhere.

Pound for pound--Sammy was the most multi-talented entertainer in history. He could sing, dance, act, do impressions, comedy, etc.--and do them ALL extremely well. Gifted as a young child--he worked harder than the vast majority of them.

Jim G Smokers have 5 times more probabilities of developing lung cancer. It's a fact based on simple statistic. Not enough "scientific link" to you? A different story is that the process by which lung cancer is developed isn't fully understood yet, which is what tobacco companies have always used to try to confuse us all.

I just got to say that of all the performers and singers I have heard, Sammy Davis Jr. had the best voice I have heard for a male singer. Englebert Humperdinck is another one who had such a voice but there are not many. Listen to him sing I gotta be me once and you will almost cry. What a talent and what a range with his voice. His dancing was something else too. He was the best.

I really love that guy - what an honest interview! There have been very few talents we are lucky enough to have preserved on video who match Sammy Davis Junior, very VERY few. To have that much talent and heart in one tiny-framed person - what a treasure and a gift to those of us lucky enough to have been on the receiving end of some of his performances. One of the best artists ever born.

I think the world today would break his heart. He worked so hard to break down barriers, defeat racism, he was a universalist. Maybe 25 yrs ago we reached peak improvement. At the time of his death 33 yrs ago things were much improved. However the last 10yrs have seen us going backwards. Racism has got much worse again, on both sides but worst coming from elements on the black side. All being stirred up by the loony left, politically correct, WOKE brigade. In the last 5 or 6 yrs in particular the left has become really vicious. If you dare disagree with anything they say you are a right wing fascist . They cannot see that their intolerance is the real fascism. Very sad to see. I guess harmony doesn't suit the vested interests. Yes Sammy would be very sad to see the wreckage today.

For those who don't know: Davis lost his left eye in a car accident at age 29 (there was a bullet-shaped horn button on the steering wheel which hit him in the eye and was redesigned by the car company after the accident). His nose was broken multiple times from beatings he endured while in the Army.

As a kid in the 70's, I looked at people like SD Jr. as part of my parent's era, but something I could feel led me to relate to Sammy in a more personal way...he was probably the most relatable adult I had ever seen or heard in my adolescence. Now, years on, I see the raw talent and energy of this great, great entertainer. I am in awe of his gigantic personality.

Same here I discovered him when I was 17 .at the height of the Brit Rock era and all those great British bands but something about Sammy stood out. Not least that magnificent voice and the way he moved and danced. I have adored him ever since. So many have come and gone but Sam is still here, still great, still loved, all these years since he passed away.. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Wow, wasn’t Elliot Gould just on his early 30s when this was aired? What a great compliment to get from a legend for an actor that young. Most of the younger audience would only recognize Elliot Gould as Ross and Monica’s dad in Friends but he had a very successful career, specially in the 70s

This was an amazing segment. Both men just clicked and were able to riff off each other effortlessly. I always used to pick Dean as my favorite but as I've seen more and more of his work and appearances, Sammy is my favorite Rat Pack member.

I watched him in an episode of I Dream Of Jeannie only last night. He appeared in many 1960s and 1970s television shows I think. I remember he was in an All In the Family episode. I believed he kissed Archie on the cheek in that.
