I agree with John Clark. I met Roger after a Who show in Miami. He was going into a car and saw me, stopped to say hi, sign an autograph and gave me 5-10 minutes to chat. I was blown away. I know first hand that he appreciates his fans and IS absolutely humble.
My wife and I met at the “Use It or Lose It” tour stop in Red Bank NJ. For extra couple hundred it was a dream for me the fanatic! We both got a pic together and he autographed not just show merchandise but the items from home ! Pete wouldn’t sign shit aside from “Who I Am” book when I “met” for the price of the autobiography in Bookends store in northern New Jersey. Still wouldn’t turn it down. But Pete could have said hello. Seems so open on Late Night show in March (?) to promote Broadway redo of “Tommy”
I met Roger many years ago in Silverlake, a suburb of L.A. looking for albums. Back then, I didn't know the amount of record shops in the early 2000's was a lot, and he knew more than the locals. My GF back then flipped out because she only knew the intro to CSI, which embarrassed me. He laughed about it. Learned eventually from an agent guy friend of mine that Daltrey gets royalty checks from the CSI episode every time it's played in syndication somewhere. He does not really "need" to work nor sing for money.
I met Roger a long time ago after a gig in New Haven or Toronto around'79. I was afraid to approach him. He could see that and said, "I'm not gonna bite." Still one of the highlights of my youth to meet such a great singer and man!
Roger looks fantastic and a top bloke in the UK. He's proud to say things as they seem to him and refuses to bow to political correctness. Bravo Rog. If they don't like what you say, then they can go to hell don't you agree?
@@oldguyofarizona8602 Oh well!!! Roger has been the rock of The Who. I think Roger's wife is American and he has been happily married to her for many years living in the county of Sussex.
Roger Daltry doesn’t do drugs. He did in the early days. His now wife gave Roger an ultimatum, quit doing drugs or she’s gone. 2 of his band mates are gone and Pete Townsends is lucky he’s alive. Barry Gibbs the same story and he’s still alive.
@@woodyw6891I had to look it up. I was floored! I was 14 when, " I can't drive 55" was released. I figured he was just a few years older than me. Damn! Looking good Sammy!
The difference between Roger and Pete, John plus Keith is that he has looked after himself. In his days as 'Tommy', Roger looked stunningly handsome and physically very fit unlike the other three. The man went from the spotty ugly duckling to growing his locks and becoming the dynamic, sexy swan. He kept his hair too, unlike poor Pete though Pete has had the royalties for songwriting. Well done, Roger. I don't care about some of his right wing views which I don't agree with; by and large he's a top bloke and a great figurehead for The Who.
@@henryfitch8710 I don't vote for either corrupt party, but if your country doesn't think Joe is an embarrassment also; I don't know what to tell you. Trump is a lot of things I don't like, but as someone who lives in the states, my finances were significantly better while he was in office.
Sammy Hagar admitting he got VIP treatment because the venue thought he was Roger Daltrey is one of the most honest admissions I've ever heard. Sammy admits he was a huge fan and trying to mimic Roger. Sammy is an incredibly grounded individual. Amazing.
I was almost given Danny Joe Brown`s cocaine in 1997. Even though I didn`t he was furious anyway. Not a nice whiskey drinker! I refused to accept his apology later and regret it now but it was uncalled for regardless.
My condolences to you on the loss of your father.💔 Unfortunately, many of the Baby Boomers are barely reaching sixty, unlike their Great Generation parents who are living over a century. Are your grandparents still living?
Took my husband to see The Who when they were on tour in 2019. Hubby had been a huge fan since the early days in the ‘70’s. Never had a chance to see them in their heyday. They put on a fantastic show! Pete and Roger kept performing the entire concert-all the other band members took breaks, but not “the old men”!
Look at how Roger has morphed from a spotty Mod to a handsome swan with flowing locks. He looks better now than he did in the early 60s!!! The man has looked after himself mentally and physically, rather like Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney of The Beatles.
Roger was always a dazzler. Very handsome man then and now. He’s aged well ( so has Sammy) He seriously looked like a beautiful Prince from fairy tales. Gorgeous blonde thick hair. I’ll never forget the performance on Rock IN Roll Circus It absolutely blew everyone away
Great interview Sammy! I've never seen Roger sit down alone for an interview this long. Once in the mid 90's we went to dinner at a restaurant in Chicago and Roger was sitting at the table next to us with 3 other people. I could barely eat and spent most of the evening trying not to stare at him😳🤩😂To this day I have no regrets that I didn't bother him that night😍
Love this interview. 2 of the greatest frontmen in rock and roll just hanging out and laughing about old times like friends at a bar. No egos, just respect and admiration
Of all the elderly British Rock singers,( and I've heard all them all listening outside Fenway Park including Macca, ) Roger had ,by far,the best voice.. Dammit he sounded better than he did during some of the crazy seventies' tours. He's the balls!
Every time Sammy went for the "High Five", I couldn't help but think of the Seinfeld episode where Elaine had to put Puddy in check over high fiving everyone.
LoL, I don't think Roger even knew what in the hell he was doing 😂 I used to have a buddy that would do that all the time and after a while I'd have to tell him to knock it off because it'd get on my nerves after a while
I met both Sammy, his wife, and Rodger in 2002 at the Crescent Court Hotel in Dallas, where I worked the valet and bag man position. Sammy is a really cool guy, and acts just as you see him here. He thanked me for opening the door for him and his wife. Rodger is about the same in hight as Barry Manalow, who I also met. Rodger was not as outgoing as Sammy, I was a foot away, next to him and was of few words. He probably had something on his mind. He doesn't really shoot the breeze with strangers.
You provided zero details as if he is great or a douche. I am guessing great but you didn't give a single detail. Maybe that is what I should take from it?
The chemistry between Sammy and Roger was electrifying. It's amazing how many nuggets of great stories come out of the annals of Rock and Roll history!
Sammy that shirt brings back so many memories - I was a teenager listening that album until I wore it out. Specifically Spaceage Sacrifice, which I still play on guitar when I noodle around and I've Got the Fire. Feel so lucky at 66 to watch these guys talk.
@Joel_Powell Know what you mean. Been listening to Paper Money since it came out, 1974? There is a nice bootleg version of Spaceage Sacrifice, you may be able to to find it here on YT.
I met Roger Daltrey in 1973 at fresh pond in Cambridge Massachusetts,Roger and John Entwistle owned brand new 12 Gear 10 speed bikes me and my friend saw the extra sprocket on the back of the bike so we stopped to check them out and the guys that owned them we're under the big willow tree at little fresh, they came walking over and started talking to us we Hangout with them for an hour or so and I bet he would remember me if I could ask him. I was only 13 at the time. Rodger if you get to read this do you remember the kid with the messed up eye summer of 73 in fresh pond Cambridge Massachusetts
@@williamsherman1089 I hope Sam is keeping him on the hook for more work together after this tour. This video shows how well they just get each other musically. I can't wait to see Joe on the tour, but I've enjoyed every show with Vic I've ever seen.
Saw The Who live for the first time a couple months ago at the Teenage Cancer Trust show at the Royal Albert Hall. RD's voice was superb and he didn't shy away from anything. A living, playing legend and great man.
Man, Sammy you've got some great pipes!! Saw you with Montrose in 73, here near Flint Michigan. The band was great! But you sing better now, your belly is holding that diaphragm powering the notes. great interview, wonderful rendition of that Who classic, thanks a million!
I used to work in the london music scene and never met Daltrey myself, but several musicians I knew and respected all loved him and would always bring his name up as one of the most likable blokes in the business.
Roger and Sammy. Two of the best there ever was. All Class. Great singers. Great careers. And amazing men. I think Sammy Hagar is one of the most amazing guys in entertainment. A really good man. That's my opinion. But yeah - 2 big-time rockers!
I have loved the Who since day one. I saw them perform Tommy live in 1969 when it came out...twice, at the beginning of the US tour and at the end. Forget talking 'bout my g-g-generation! We're all old now and we're still here. I love that all these guys are still out on the road rockin' away.
This was an awesome interview, with such heart. What a wonderful mission Roger is on to provide teens who suffer with cancer as much "normalcy" as he can help provide. And Sammy, your rendition of Behind Blue Eyes was wonderful! 😃❤
I was there... Charlton Athletic. Still have the ticket taped inside my copy of the bootleg Live at the Filmore East. More seriously... You may work out and do exercise but that belly is there for a reason: too much carbohydrate in your diet (beer, potatoes, rice, bread, sugar in drinks). Age 69, ask me how I know... lots of exercise but sitting at work and eating think high quality bread with cheese or peanut butter and honey or jam. Heart attack and pre-diabetes with three resuscitations in 2020 . Despite studying Biochemistry as a student, I got sucked into the mid-1970s dietary advice of low fat and high carbs that is killing the world. There are now plenty of books and RU-vid videos by top level scientists at reputable establishments on changing what we eat and how we exercise. I am now as fit and healthy as I have ever been and the medics are very impressed.
His loving comments about Hendrix are the highlight of this great interview for me. That and punching Pete out, of course. Thanks Sammy for making this happen!
I was honored and delighted to have attended 2 live shows by THE WHO! 1977 & sometime in the 1990s. Tremendous band! I LOVE "TOMMY"; "QAUDROPHENIA" is astounding! They played at Woodstock too! A fine bunch of Brits. Sorry to learn of "Loonie Moonie"; Ringo's Son Zack filled in at drums at Shoreline Amphitheater, CA. Cheers to THE WHO! * Cav *
My first rock album was Aerosmith/ Toys in the Attic, followed closely by a Who album (forget exactly which one) but I was mesmerized by the Who's music. Yes, Daltrey was THE rockstar, the voice, his presence.... now I see he's such a great guy too!
Roger turned 80 in March..., Looks amazing! And still can belt it out... Sammy lookin good as well..., been a pleasure listening to these two great voices over the years...
Fun fact: When both Small Faces and The Who toured Australia in 1968, they were BANNED from returning to Australia! If you can get a copy of A Fortnight of Furore, you'll know all about it! Since then, Roger & Pete have returned, and each time, I keep missing them! 😅
With the rest of humanity I breathe a sigh of relief: nobody wants to meet their hero and they treat them bad. Thank you Mr. Roger. GOD bless and keep Roger, Sammy, and their families, in the name of JESUS CHRIST.
I loved Montrose, didn't care for Hagar as a solo artist, loved Van Halen...but Sammy is a totally cool, down-to-earth dude and this is one of my favorite YT channels!
