Join me for a visit to and an introduction in to the history of one of the UK's most unique country parks and Wprld War 2 hidden places.
Hidden away at the base of one of the famous White Cliffs of Dover, UK is an unusual country park with a unique place in history over the past 200 years. Samphire Hoe Park owes its existence to man's two unsuccessful and one successful attempt to tunnel under the English Channel between England and France.
incorporating into that 200 year period is war with France and two wars against Germany. Today the park is enjoyed by around 100,000 visitors a year.
This video is both a guide for those looking for somewhere new to explore a hidden place, and anyone interested in the area's history both modern and World War 2.

A very poignant chapter is this one, as this was the last place I visited with my Dad, before Leukaemia took him away. It was every bit as isolated as your film shows it to be, wild, quite desolate in some ways and always the wind.... .....apart from Mum, Dad and the two dogs, we had the Hoe to ourselves that afternoon, until we were joined by a Kestrel, which floated along beside us, not at all worried by our presence. The Hoe is a wonderful place to visit as you showed and I’m glad that you showcased it as you have, so well done! I’ve liked and subscribed and I’m enjoying your other films....👍🏻👍🏻👏🏼👏🏼

In 1966 I had just left school and joined the survey team that was doing the plotting of the route and the borehole we marked showed the depths of the Marle which would be the actual tunnel depths, it goes up and down like a switchback . Now 60 years later I can see the results of our work. Two of the names of the killed workers were known to me from school.

Very interesting. I wish that they had left more of the sites industrial heritage, as in a very real way that formed the park entirely

@@AndyMcloone Thanks Andy, I've walked to the Sound Mirror before, so not much further. Just trying to figure how you actually get down the cliff.

thanks for making and uploading this History lesson.... but this Park look awful and ugly. Why didn't they cover up the Seawall and make it more natural looking?
