Independent Filmmaker, Travel Vlogger, Historian and International Man of Mystery... well, sort of.....🇬🇧 (Austin Powers ref...😄)
I make films on subjects that interest me, in areas of Travel, Modern History, Technology. I still don't really have a game plan for this channel. But I aim to cover niche areas the mainstream media / other independents ignore.
It's great that you are interested enough to watch my content.
Thanks for Watching, Liking and Subscribing. I really appreciate it!

Also..... I now have a secondary Channel for Vlogs, random video content on my life and YT Shorts. Check it out.....
I am going to NL and UK for the first time and on a solo trip. For arriving in London, I can’t just leave at St Pancras International? I have to go on to St Pancras afterwards as the route says? And do I have to take St Pancras tube to St Pancras International?
I stayed here once the night before going to Ireland. Dad got a pretty big discount through the Accor Live Limitless loyalty program. I had Guinea fowl for my dinner - I'd had that at a regimental dinner once when I was in the CCF while at school. There were two bottles of beer in the fridge (albeit Coors).
Die Potsdamer Konferenz im Februar 1945...? Ist es nicht eher wie Jalta...??? The Potsdam conference in February 1945....? Isn't it more like Yalta...???
Love Tailgunner Joe showing the world America's Communist power centres at 8:33. 'Course we all knew about Missouri, and who hasn't dropped in on Wisconsin when they wanted a vodka straight from the source, but North Dakota?? Who knew! Shure is a good thing we had ol' Joe to winkle these people out. No doubt his expertise in vodka was a help.
I picked up my parents from Frankfurt Main Airport and went to McDonald's and had a Heineken with our Big Macs😂. Then we boarded the train to Berlin for the overnight trip back to Tempelhof. My mother was smoking then and when the DDR and Soviet Soldiers boarded the train, we stood in our cabin waiting for them to check their passports and my Flag orders. I had taken the train a couple of times before and the Soldiers were always very serious but that night, i guess it was a loving mother affected the young kids, smiled as they checked paperwork. Then my mother asked me if they could accept a cigarette. I spoke basic German and asked the guard if they would like an American cigarette. Their faces lit up shaking their heads yes. My mom handed the both kids a smoke and they thanked her. Before they walked away, my mom said to wait a second and she grabbed 2 packs of Winstons and handed each one a full pack. Then they looked down the train to see if anyone was looking and each one took off a epilet from their uniforms. My mom passed away several years ago but she kept the DDR and Hamer and Sickle pins proudly until she passed away. She always said that they were just kids and its our stupid government causing the hate. She was a great mother ❤
Speaking of accidents that came to light after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Interflug Flight 450, scheduled to run between Berlin Schönefeld and Burgas, Bulgaria in 1972. Shortly after takepff, the Ilyushin Il-62 that formed the flight experienced an electrical fire at the rear of the passenger cabin. Declaring an emergency, the crew turned round to head back to East Berlin, however, they never made it. The plane crashed not far from the town of Königs Wusterhausen, killing all 156 people onboard. It remains the deadliest aircrash on German Soil/airspace
Günther Prien and his famous U-47 penetrated Scapa Flow and sank the battleship HMS Royal Oak. So no naval base is safe to submarines provided the sub's captain has big bollocks and IQ like Prien and that roosky chump.
Australia here/ THANK YOU Andy- best laugh I,ve had in ages !! 😆🤣😂 Just glad I wasnt about to eat a meal !! -after seeing the breakfast and your wonderful descriptions of the smells etc !! Love your humor !!
Coach loads of DDR pensioners going out to visit the west, they didnt mind if they left, then they wouldnt have to pay their pensions.A truly disgusting regime the DDR.I was there just after the wall came down and hammered a big graffitti covered chunk out to take home in my truck.
Did guard on this train a few times between 83-85 very interesting experience on the way seeing how the Russians scraped nothing and canabilized everything tanks lieing in a scrap yard .
On a repeat watching, at 5;40mins, I see traffic in Red Square. I don't know the date of that photo Andy, but I never saw any traffic there, ,on any of my visits during the 1980s.
I was a MT stationed aboard the USS Hunley in Holy Loch from 6-'64 thru 8-'66. In '65 I went on a shakedown cruise aboard one of our missile subs just for the experience. We left Holy Loch at dark and about three hours later nearly collided with a Russian trawler which was obviously their goal as they were sitting in the channel with no lights. We only avoided the collision by about 20-30 feet. In the 60's it was common for the Russian navy to attempt a collision with US Navy ships. I suppose they were willing to sacrifice a trawler in an attempt to take a missile sub out of service - at least for a while.
I can’t find the Project E link, as always love these incredibly well presented and researched videos of fascinating periods of our recent history. Many thanks Andy and keep on producing these fantastic videos
peering over to the east, when a young lad in West Germany, felt really strange. all those border guards making sure nobody escaped their communist "paradise", while we in NATO forces tried to convince them to stay on their side.
Pretty interesting stuff. My uncle served in the US Navy on the Nimitz class carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower in the Mediterranean and told me that East German border guards were often laid back when it came to crossing into the East but East Berlin guards were very serious and always wound up tighter then an ball of yarn.
WOW! Excellent story. Lived on SSBNs from 1976 to 1990. Served many years in Holy Loch as a Blue Crew member on two different Loch Subs. Was very cool to see some very familiar Dunoon Scenery.
I was trained in US army by men that took part in this exercise. I remember one story about how their infantry unit was in the field so long that when they came off the line when it was over they just threw their soiled torn BDUs into a giant heap that was burned. Also that they had some men killed that had slept out in an open area that were run over by armored forces that were moving at night
My question was to be if this was before or after Blunt, which caught the Brits with their pants down - for reals. Le Carre's books are more complete than the 2 movies - Hollywood stamps it's product with its own image. The BBC series had some good character studies.
Travelled from Rotterdam to London last week on the Eurostar on a Standard Premier ticket. You're right to point out it's better to get food and drinks before checking in, because facilities after the gate are pathetic. Especially in Rotterdam, where there's only a boring waiting room with some food/drink vending machines. You point out the toilets in Business Premier are huge, but that's only because you visited the accessible toilet (for disabled/wheel chair people). Pretty sure it also has the regular, smaller toilets. During my trip the toilet stank and there wasn't any toilet paper!
Very interesting video, as always! One point about the "devil worshipping" in the movie you reference the star was for protection against evil, not the other way around :).
All the critical feedback on this place is valid. I live five minutes away and can see it from my road. By necessity I had to spend a couple of nights there a few years ago while my house was being refurbished ; the only other hotel within walking distance couldn't offer me as many nights accomodation as I needed. This short stay was long enough for myself and the missus to be covered in bites ( possibly bed bugs) by the time we checked out. At present the place is encased in scaffold whilst external decoration and renovation work is being undertaken. This is partly due to an incident of falling masonary injuring a coach driver. I'm guessing too that owing to some high end residential projects being undertaken in the vacinity pressure has been put on Britannia Hotels to at least give the place a lick of Dulux. The new high end residents won't want to spend in excess of a million quid to see this eyesore from the high end windows of their high end appartments.
