Great video! You reminded me why I like the C01 so much! Thanks for making it! I have made literally 1000s of commercial recordings using the C01. I run it into an Avalon 737, or UAD Unison mic pre. Your description is very accurate! Very warm... Technique is essential. But when using a nice mic pre with an EQ, I can dial up beautiful, lush, U87- like tones. I call it the Poor Man's Neumann! Heck I bought 2 just in case one fails! It does have a tiny bit self-generated noise, but if you have any music going in the background you you will not hear it at all. To me the C01 is the absolute best mic for the money- period!
Great review, I'm planning on getting a C01 and the Xenyx 302 USB for some voice work related stuff and I'd like to as how much software related editing have you done in this video? To my understanding, the phantom power on the mixer is a little low, which can result in the audio being a bit quiet. So, did you make it louder or use any other editing effects?

Yes, but first you need to connect this condenser mic using an XLR microphone cable to an audio interface or a mixer that has built in 48 volts phantom power option. The audio interface connects to your computer via usb cable. Focusrite, Presonus, Steinberg are all decent brand names for audio interfaces that convert a microphone's analogue signal to a digital signal regardless of whether the mic is a condenser mic (requires phantom power) or a dynamic mic (requires no phantom power).
Hi , I need to be sure ... did you process and edit the voice in.post?.....I would have rather hear what it sounds out of the box....hearing this mic processed and edited would not do.much for me. I need to hear it raw and unedited ...it's very misleading when microphone reviews are done with edited audio....msg. Anyway, what's the noise floor of the mic and what does it sound like unedited ?.

I bought the Samson C03 almost similar to C01 but C03 has 3 polar patterns. Will the blue LED glow always when it is connected to Phantom power?. Mine glew initially but stopped glowing after a short while. Can it be an issue with cable or interface or Mic itself? When I removed the XLR and tried to reconnect in the Interface the mic LED Blinked once but once the XLR is firmly connected it again does not glow in the mic. But Interface i Rig pre glows in green. Please help trouble shooting this issue.
Is it necessary to have a mixer in order to get your sound out of the C01? I bought a Focusrite 2i2 and would just like to know it that would be enough
I would like to correct you on something very important. USB can and will provide up to 48 volts of phantom power, which is more than enough for this microphone. I have tried and tested it now that mine has arrived.

Hy, nice vid. The audio sounds really good to me. Does it pick up a lot of ambient noise?. I would like to use it at my pc without picking up sounds from my keyboard of pc fans. Can i use the mixer to send the mics audio to pc but also mix the mic with game audio from my pc and send it to my headphone at the same time?(i really enjoy the talkbac mic of the turtle beach px22 but the sond quality of the headphones is a touch too bad)
I couldn't remove it either, so I used a piece of duct-tape. More seriously, from the manual: "The C01 is a condenser microphone and therefore needs to be operated by connecting a phantom power supply. [..] If necessary an external phantom supply can also be used. The C01 receives the phantom power directly from [..] microphone input that includes a phantom supply. [..] Most mixers have a switch to engage the phantom power so be sure to check that the phantom power is on." - 48V button?

I'm using a CO1 with an Alesis iO2 Express connected to my MacBook pro and I'm getting very low sound with background noise. I have to remove the nose with Audacity. I'm getting nowhere near the quality of this vid. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
I have several higher end mics: miktek cv4, Akg 414... This is one of my favorites. Combined with a nice mic pre (I use an Avalon 737 which brings out the best in any mic), it really sounds great. Got a flavor of its own.

I bought the Samson C01 mic about a week ago on Amazon and I haven't been able to make it work. PLEASE HELP!!! I have the condensed mic going to the phantom power and both the phantom power and the mic's light goes on when switched on, but when I plug the 3.5mm jack into my MacBook it doesn't pick up any sound on the computer. ugh! DO I NEED A USB SOUND CARD??? I do not understand this technical stuff. Please help my technically challenged self. THANK YOU!!!!

Is a mixer required? Because I just want to buy an average phantom power, but it says "9.XLR microphone input: 48v phantom power", and then "11.Input power: 18v AC" So is the mic 48v or 18v?! Please reply I really need help :( And it has an input and output. What are those for? Can I just use the input or do I have to use both? Please reply
I'm connecting this microphone to an audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett), when pressed the 48V button on the interface the blue light on the microphone is on, however the volume kept around -36 to -24db which is quite low. Any thoughts? thx a lot!

JLDJUK. I'm trying to use this Mic with a lexicon Alpha but get no blue light. I appreciate your review (which is excellent btw) is on the mic rather then the amp but if you know, can you tell me if I need a different amp? There doesn't appear to be any other way of providing the phantom power.
Looks like your interface doesn't supply phantom power. You can either get a new interface which does, or just get a phantom power supply to go between the mic and interface. Something like the Behringer PS400

sir i own it as my first condensor mic but when using with scarlett solo interface in low gain poor vocal recording and in little high gain or when singing in high pitch gets unhealthy sound.Maintaing proper distance though.What may be the problem...very annoyed...thanks.
try to check the audio frequency output on your software it must be 44000 hertz..if its 22000 hz then change it to 44k or else it will decrease the quality and do use pop filter and shockmount its is very helping and can help u to get the maximum quality

I ended up buying one of these mic's 12 months ago. It is BRILLIANT!!! It does everything I want it to do. I have used it for vocal recording (music tracks) and I primarily use it for my online radio station broadcasting.

There must be something wrong with how you have it setup. This mic should give you nice clean audio. Either its faulty hardware or the way you have everything connected is causing a buzz in your system. What are you using to connect this to your computer?
ChloeLaneMusic I think its your sound card that's the issue. Have a look at the Behringer 302USB. Its an external mixer with a built in soundcard. Just plug the mic via XLR into the mixer and then USB into the computer. That's what I use and it gives me great audio
ChloeLaneMusic The sound card is basically the thing that takes the audio from your cable and puts it in your computer (your computer will have a crappy internal sound card which is the small 3.5mm mic input, like a headphone jack)
Shane Spigarelli Is it only outputting static, or is it noise pared with usable sound. I honestly don't own this mic (but I'm considering buying it!) but if it's noise pared with what you want to record the problem may be that you have your gain too high, the way to solve this is by simply turning down your gain and speaking up (or doing the thing you want to record louder), if your only getting noise, and you are sure this is not thanks to your audio interface, then your mic might be broken. If this is the case, and it acted like this out of the box, try returning the mic and getting a new one.

lucinator711YT I always hear/read that the Xenyx 302 has only 15V Phantom Power. Is this true? IF its true: How can you explain that JLDJUK used the Xenyx 302 with the Samson C01 which needs 36-52V in this video and gets such a good result? I like the speech quality very much!
no this comes with XLR cable and needs phantom power which can be found in AUDIO MIXER or in Audio Interface...if you dont have any of these go for the USB version of CO1U which can be directly connected to the computer and no need of driver or installation. Just plug and record
